The Americans: The 2nd best espionage/spy show on TV

damn it suprising how no one died in the finale but everyone is FUCKED

I dont know who got it worse Henry or Oleg

Oleg was prepared for prison.. he expected this.

Henry had no clue. I mean no fucking clue. Not only that.. but Phillip was going to have to pull him out of that school next semester anyway. Dude was already late on the payments for this semester...

So Henry has no family in the states other then Paige and she will have to stay away... NO Home.. likely no savings from the family. All he has is Stan. The good thing is that Stan has probably been more of a father to Henry then Stan... but now you have to worry about Rene being a plant.

Later this year.. FX drops the sons of anarchy spin-off

If it can just recapture some of the magic of SamCro then I’m all in

But yeah it’s going to be tough without this show.. it’s one of 4 shows that must watch live. Like I stop everything to watch it. In today’s world that’s is a high standard.

Game of Thrones, Westworld, The Americans, and The 100.

Mr. robot use to be Number 5... but it’s dropped off the list.

i dont know mane
there is about to be big holes to fill

I'll give Myans a chance but lost interest in Sons. It was too hard buying into the hoops the show would jump through to keep Clay & later Jax's mom alive. I had to walk away when they killed Jax's old lady

there are some good shows out there but no truly great shows.
Mr Robot, Westworld, Billions are a few shows I love but they arent top 5 dead or alive like the Americans

the Americans was one of the five best dramas I've ever watched (in no order Sopranos, the Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men & the Americans...honorable mention to Hannibal)

except for Oleg and he was the only one trying to
p11644_p_v8_ab.jpg

Second time OLeg goes to prison for trying to do the right thing.

If you really go back to look at it.. both Stan and Oleg’s actions were driven this season because of the ghost of Nadia.

I expected more imo

to each his own but this was the perfect ending for this show
this show was always a slow burn which built on tension and the dynamics of their family/relationships

we got an end that tied all lose strings and showed how the Jennings left scorched earth their wake. It couldnt have ended any better imo. Death would've been a fate to good for Elizabeth & Phil

Sadly still haven’t watched Breakign Bad....

But I agree.. it is one of the best dramas that I’ve ever seen.

Other then the Wire... its the only show where I’m looking forward to immediately going back and rewatching like it’s brand new. I was holding out to see what happens in the end.. now that I know the pieces.. I can go back and enjoy all the small details over the years that led them to this ending.

I expected more imo

I mean what else could they have done.. anything more would have changed how this series has operated since day one.

I figured it wasn’t going to reveal the issue with Renee and I figured that Henry probably wasn’t going to find out from them.

The only thing I expected was probably something related to them stopping the proposed takeover in Russia.. but once they revealed the truth to Stan.. the episode was smart to just focus on the most important part.. getting the fuck out of America. Them leaving was the best thing for the kids.

Also the show further went on the alliveate my fears and show that Stan was who I thought he was... Ride or die. I’m glad that in the end .. he let them go.

Not only was it smart but it followed the beats of his character. He saw first hand what happened to Nadia and he worked with Oleg to try to free her.. and it backfired on him. I don’t think that he wanted to see this family that were basically his own family... subjected to what Nadia had to go through and be treated like a pawn by both countries.

There were so many moments in this finale.. but that scene in the garage was a highlight to me.

Even with them being completely caught and dead to rights.. Phillip and Elizabeth were selective in every word.

Notice how.... In that moment.. Phillip could have mentioned that Martha’s safe.. but he didn’t .. because he remembers that conversation that Stan had with Phillip about being betrayed by someone that he knows in the office.

And the Elizabeth shouting that she didn’t kill anyone when Stan called out all the bodies plying up over the years.. then Elizabeth put out that Phillip retired a year ago to try and show that there was no way that this fragile mother could have possibly killed all of those people alone.

That’s what made Phillip’s words to Stan hit home...

I just expected it to be more intense for them to get out of the country. And I thought they were going to get capped when they made it back

I think the tension leading up to that and silence made up for that. It would be too easy for the show to have Philip and Elizabeth capped... the true tension was slow and steady path that got them to that final shot. Every second seemed like it could have been the end for them.

I almost wonder if the the creator of the show used those moments to kind of have the audience in the shoes of the Jennings. The same feeling that we got in the quiet moments to their freedom was probably the same moments that they they felt every day.. this unease that they can never be comfortable in their surroundings that for all of these years.. one second could be their last.

I think it’s perfect to show to characters that started the show as partners in name only end the show as true partners. ..

That’s why the moment Elizabeth got the real wedding rings and when she said “we will adjust together” we’re huge moments

Did he mention his dead FBI partner in the garage scene? I thought that would have been enough to lock them up
I thought Philip was going to rush Stan so the other two could get away

I think Stan didn’t want to bring that state up... Remember Stan Killed Vlad as revenge for his partners death... which ending up leading Nadia into the Arms of directorate S to be a double agent and then she called Stan out on Murdering Vlad later on..

Basically Stan’s quest for vengeance indirectly lead to the death of a woman who he cared about.

That’s kind of why he dropped the focus on the illegals for years.

Oleg. His calling to do right just fucked him in the end. it's so sad but damn.
Oleg's father. All he did was do good and raise sons and now look at his life and he's got to shoulder all the responsibility.
EVERYONE will get a chance to grieve and become recluse and express themselves BUT HIM. When he stretched his arms out like "WTF!?" after he left that final meeting that's as much pain as he'll ever get to express.

Henry. From I'll see you next week to I'll never see you again. Just fucking poor Henry. Fucking Poor Henry.

Stan felt betrayed but saw that he really was his bestfriend. He really was looking out for him he really was a real part of his life stan went ostrich like fuck it. Stan is the best friend anyone on this earth could ever ask for period.

Paige appearing off the train and Henry looking like his world shattered broke me. I was like I'm not gonna feel any kind of way then they happened and after that everything was lost

In the end they really loved their kids and their family and most of all each other. Daydreaming about meeting on a bus and having this life here the whole time.. just cements their relationship

I'm surprised Phil never said hey, remember 6 years ago when you broke into our garage and popped my trunk? Well I was 5 feet away from you with a gun, but I didn't kill you. In the end he didn't need to of course but I was waiting for it.

Phil gonna dare Stan to shoot em in the back

I had figured the final scene of the series would be of Stan and Henry talking..then Stan turns to him and says
"Well, about your parents..there's..something that i really should tell you.." (cuts to black screen)

this makes me happy.

They both had better be getting Emmys...

I felt so bad for Stan. He looked like an abandoned and kicked puppy when he confirmed Phillip and Elizabeth's identities. "You were my best friend. I would have done anything for you, all of you."

Paige was chilling
and then she was on the border of Canada
Then she was in an abandoned safe house a wanted spy by the American Government taking vodka shots in about 16 hours.

Paige might be able to get out of this as long as Stan continues not to snitch. They really don’t have anything on her. She might be able to play it off like Henry.... but they are going to question the fuck out of her.

There is a part of me that would love to see at 15 minute fast forward epilogue to see how the relationships have changed.

that scene with Paige on the train platform and then Liz & Phil's faces got to me, crazy how good that whole scene with border patrol was with no words spoken

That’s what I’ll miss so much about this show... they could say more in complete silence then some shows could say with an hour of dialogue.

Phil’s face was just anger, confusion, and fear all wrapped into one... he wanted to scream but the most he could do was break protocol and sit next to his wife in silence...

That was another huge huge moment.

Wish it didn't have to end. But don't know how the story would play out with just Paige and Stan's girl.

She not going to jail

But she's effectively all alone for a few years
Heartbreaking

And Henry man

Man you could write a fucking Thesis on Henry. It has to be on the saddest character endings that I've seen in years and no blood was shed.

You wake up that day a Normal Happy kid in Private school with a loving family and adoring sister... and then the Next Day you go to sleep like..

His last words to his mom were "Ok I gotta Go".... :smh:

Everything about everything will haunt him

I'd do a flash forward of Henry in 2018 finding his parents in Russia

That would have been perfect...

but it was almost fitting for the Americans to not show us...

Like we don't even know what Stan told Henry. Did he give him the Nick Jr version or the Nick at Night version..

Nah Stan told him the real in the Stan type of way
"Henry sometimes things aren't what they seem. Your mom and dad love you very much I'm sure of it but they had to leave for good. You're going to hear a lot about them and some of it is true. Just know that I'm here for you. For whatever you need"

I still say FX should do a spinoff of some kind where Paige be on some Red Sparrow-type shit

Yea all while they were talking in this scene i kept expecting dude who was their driver to reach for a silenced pistol..
Car bomb
Pistol
Tank
Accident
Blizzard
Air strike
Something lol

I'm glad nothing happened. They had to live with it.

"All this time my life has been a joke"

yeah I was thinking about that.... assuming by the U2 song they played during the train scene, that was 1986, and I think they said Henry was 16, so in that universe, he's 48 now. That would be great to catch up with him and seeing him either contacted by Philip/Liz and to see if Paige had been in touch.
