FX has ordered The Americans, a drama about two KGB spies posing as Americans in the early 1980s, the network announced Friday. The series, executive produced by Justified’s Graham Yost and created by Falling Skies’ Joe Weisberg, centers on the two spies, whose arranged marriage evolves into something more real, compromising their mission during the Cold War.

Damn. Forgot about this. I will grab it later

thats just to try to hook you from t he first episode, I can guarantee you wont be seeing any more scenes like that any time soon

Nah man.. They pushed the limits with American Horror Story throughout the season

watching it now and I like it so far.

the felicity chick is basically marvel's black widow.
like the dynamic of the couple so far and the apparent role reversal with the husband being more 'americanized/sensitive' while the wife is the cold blooded one.

show has promise

Watched first episode which was a struggle :smh:

Plan to watch the second onw which I have on the DVR, but so far it is a snoozer :smh:

I wasn't in love with the first episode, either, despite the conflicts I saw being set up, but I thought last night's espisode was a step up. Noah Emmerich's character (FBI Agent next door) is going to be the key figure driving the conflict in the show, and I like what they're doing with him so far. With last night's ep. they really set him up as a smart, worthy opponent.

It's a nice twist to see the wife as the hard core true believer and the husband being the compassionate one more concerned with family over country.

Ultimately, this may not be for everyone. If you're doing an espionage, and going for realism, then it's going to come off a muted procedural-type drama where you get into the technical minuta of true trade-craft, and the tension is in the way conflicts are resolved in the quiet moments vs. with gun shots. The final scene of the first ep. is a perfect example. It's like a John le Carre novel vs. James Bond-style action.

This seems to be going for the John le Carre approach.

I love such shows, soI'm going to stick it out.

Maybe Episode 2 will change my mind.

Episode 1 was 2 hours and dragged.

to be far episode 1 was alot of exposition. They had to setup the world, give flashbacks and establishes the players.

i think episode is the direction this show will go in going forward. alot of cloak & dagger, questioning who exactly who should be rooting for and having you on the edge of your seat.

I'm really staring to enjoy it...

really messed up ending this week though...

great to see Derek Luke!

I like the way they implemented pretty much the black panther party. Kinda makes sense if you think about the time period...

Been banking the episodes on dvr, checked out the first one tonite. Loved it. Probably easier for Bruhs of a certain age to get to because they might remember the mood of the time. Shit was different in 1981. I don't quite agree with Mexico although I think his summary was very good. I think this is less like LeCarre or Bond than it is a fucking love story. Along the lines of Spawn if you can dig it. I will not spoil it for Fam that might yet watch it but consider this: the motivation of the agents is set out in the garage scene where an issue is resolved. One person has an illusion shattered, the other makes an unanticipated choice. Check it out. I am curious about the Fam's take on this show so I will be checking this thread.

Peace

^^^
coudlnt agree more
the show really emphasises a couple falling in love for the 1st after a long time. Its funny that they setup a boot call to creep with themselves. Like they want something more real outside of their fake house and marriage.

I love the show although I find it weird me rooting for the KGB in this. That 80's spy craft is classic.

its all good we won

but i hope this show has a long run. Would to get an epilouge where the main characters have to deal with the fall of the Soviet Union and perhaps see the 'Americans' become full fledged Americans

this is a great show

the pacing is going great and so far they haven't really had to do some crazy things in order to make it work.

the acting is great. like the dynamics between the husband and wife of the show and honestly so far so good.

i'll be watching this full season for sure.

and given the time its set in it could actually last for a few seasons if they keep this up. make up close calls and inner workings from that era and just go from there. doesn't need to be over the top or action packed.

they're spies.

good show

it made perfect sense
they were on the same side. nice to see derek luke get some shine.
and not as a lackey either but someone with some prominence. hopefully they call on gregory to get things done more in future episodes

Yeah, they're really started to bring the relationship dynamics to the forefront in episode 3 with the intro of Derek Luke's character and ep. 4. The first two episodes you got the feeling she could flip on him in a heartbeat. It's coming off pretty well though. I like how the dynamics play against convention. I like how it's the wife that's the true believer and the husband who is the pragmatist. Lot of great possibilities with that down the road with her having to choose between him and the motherland.

Great episode last night. I remember years ago, reading back over the Reagan assassination attempt and how everything got fucked up when Haig said he was in charge, but never gave much thought to what that meant geo-politically until now. But it was interesting to see what it meant from the KGB's POV and how they saw the event as a threat to them. A wrong turn of phrase almost set off WWIII.

I don't know how close the plot points are hitting to actual Cold War history, but it's all coming off with so much authenticity.

that's the great thing about it. everything being done i can see having gone down when it happened. nothing is over the top they're not super spies they're just spies that are good. so many things probably did go down like that and nobody was the wiser.

liked the wild card of the kgb agent having the secret wife and kid. cold work that they lied and took the kid back to the soviet to be raised by the grandparents and killed the mother who probably mentioned something about spies to claudia in the van which got her killed.

and crazy thing is, that baby could have grown up and been RIGHT back into the kgb shit it could've been liv schrieber's character on salt

cat and mouse game by them going over acting concerned about what was going on and was really running intel and the agent was none the wiser.. so funny they cleaned the trunk and he let it go. he was close to knowing he was right and he'll never know

husband i believe loves his wife and kids and loves them more than mother russia.. if it comes down to it, he's choosing them over anything. the wife i don't know she's coming around to seeing things his way somewhat.

yet another show where a security guard gets merked for doing their job
he thought it was one way but....:smh:

damn tonight's episode might have been the best yet.
I guessed pretty early on that Phillip & Elizabeth were being vetted by their own ppl. Loved how they got some retribution and seemed to be on the same page but that didnt last long of course. Was happy as hell when she kicked Grannie's ass.

it still takes some getting used to see the complete role reversal between the husband and wife, from each of their perspectives neither was truly wrong.

and god damn the FBI agent is fucking in love with Nina. He got rid of a legit asset to protect. Didnt see that coming at all but its only matter of time before she eats a bullet.

shit even the subplot with the kids kept me on the edge of my seat. Ppl still hitchhiked in the early 80s.

this has become one of my favorite shows on tv.
