Thanos is an Eternal from space. Yes Thanos has taken cosmic blast from Galactus and Silver Surfer. Blows from Thor's Hammer and Hulk's fist and still stands his ground. Yet somehow the Guardians of the Galaxy can thwart his plans.

There was a series called "Cosmic Powers" where Thanos fought a being called "Tyrant." It's an interesting series.
