Technical Mathematics....

2(x2 - 3)+ 8(x2 - 7)

2x2 - 6 + 16x2 - 1

14x2 - 1 ?

I guess you realize when you older that you should've been in school when ya younger, I don't get this shit and I'm bout to get kicked outta Vocational Rehab for failing classes lol...

you mean ... 2(2x - 3) + 8(2x - 7)?

simplified ... (4x - 6) + (16x - 56)

(20x - 62) -> 20x = 62 -> x = 62/20 = 3.1

2(x2 - 3)+ 8(x2 - 7)

You start with the the First by multiplying the constant by anything inside the (parenthesis) on its respective side of the equation.

Your constant here is 2 and 8 for each binomial.

So 2(x2 - 3) = 4x - 6
and 8(x2 - 7) = 16x - 56

Then you combine and add only like polynomials (things with the same variable). In this case either something has an X or it doesn't. So you can only add "Xs" with "Xs".

(4x - 6) + (16x -56) = 20x - 62

20x - 62 is your final equation.

Without further information, this is as far as you can simply the equation.

==========

If they want you to solve for X, you'd have to move the -62 to the other side of an equals sign and change the sign.

20x = 62

Then divide, 62/20 = 3.1

Therefore X = 3.1

The real question is were you asked to solve for "x"? or merely to simplify?

First thing to remember in math is it is not an equation without an equal sign, so exactly what did th equestion ask you to do?

Give me a minute

2(x2 - 3) + 3(x2 + 7) The book answer is 5x2 + 15

2(x2 - 3)+ 8(x2 - 7)

(a) 2x2 - 6 + 16x2 - 1

(b) 14x2 - 1 ?

I guess you realize when you older that you should've been in school when ya younger, I don't get this shit and I'm bout to get kicked outta Vocational Rehab for failing classes lol...

(a) Take it in steps. Always do any multiplication/division FIRST. Use brackets to help you see what steps should be done first so you don't get confused.

2x2 - 6 + 16x2 - 1

(2x2) - 6 + (16x2) - 1

(4) - 6 + (32) - 1

Reorganize to make the math simpler. All signs stay the same since you're not moving anything to another side of the equation.

(32) + (4) - 6 - 1

(36) - 7

= 29
is your answer

=============

(b) 14x2 - 1

(28) - 1

= 27 is your answer

Give me a minute

2(x2 - 3) + 3(x2 + 7) The book answer is 5x2 + 15

that's not what you wrote in your original question. the second polynomial you wrote as 8(x2 + 7).

Second question. Is the highlighted red, x2 ( x times 2) or X-squared. If X-squared, it should be denoted as X^2.

If is it X^2, then the formula stays the same as what I wrote out before, but the sum is going to change.

2(x2 - 3) + 3(x2 + 7)

(2x^2 - 6) + (3x^2 + 21)

again, you can only add and subtract number with the same variable.

(2x^2 + 3x^2) + (-6 + 21)

= 5x^2 + 15 is your final answer.

If asked to simplify to it's lowest terms, divide the entire sum by 5 and you would get,

x^2 + 3

I'm assuming it is x^2 and not 2x.

book answer is 5x2 + 15

Based on the book answer, yep... but there is no way to get "5x2 + 15" from

2(x^2 - 3) + 8(x^2 - 7) ... using the corrected equation of 2(x2 - 3) + 3(x2 + 7) however ...

because you must distribute first ...

(2x^2 - 6) + (3x^2 + 21)

then parens (which you cannot do) ...

(2x^2 - 6) + (3x^2 + 21)

then like terms (another distribution) ...

2x^2 - 6 + 3x^2 + 21 = {2x^2 + 3x^2 = 5x^2} + {-6 + 21 = 15} = 5x^2 - 15

whoops xsquared...

Here's one that writted properly.

3x - 3[2 - 2{x^2 - 2y}] - x^3 :hmm:

All jokes aside, don't drop out. The American school system is shitty when it comes to teaching math. All abstract, never any applicable examples. They graduate students without ever bothering to teach them how to balance a check book. In my field the functions and summations are used heavily. I'm looking at your polynomials trying to figure out when I've ever used them in a project. You'll probably see them a lot in the financial world.

I don't want to quit but I'm not a person that did well at school and I missed alot of years not being in school so this is foreign to me. I probably won't pass it and just move like I wanted to years ago to another state and just get my cdl or cut hair or something and call it a day.

If I had a better educational background I'll consider it but this shit is new to me, totally new and if I fail 2 more test I won't pass the course.

It's the reality of not getting educated when ya young, ya fall behind.

That's a defeatist attitude. You need math, especially in today's world if you want to make some serious progress. Don't quit, because this knowledge isn't hurting you. If you have problems, post them here. I guess this is an instance where kayanation's proposed "education forum" would come in handy?

Nah, you're failing due to two reasons: lack of preparation and drive. Had you read up on this book weeks in advance with/without a tutor, you'd be doing okay, now. Nextoff, you don't sound motivated to lose that sleep, forego those appointments to catch a prize. You better start bleeding, sweating and crying for that shit if you want it bad enough!!

THIS is technical mathematics???!:hmm:

Technical Math is algebra, it may go into polynomials and some graphing depending on the application.

DO NOT DROP OUT!!! There are too many of people willing to quit because "It's too hard". That's the new slavery. Plenty of us willing to help you succeed on this board...Just ask your questions and try to learn and then pass on what you know and learn to the next brother with courage enough to ask! That's how we grow as a people.

damn..........BGOL does school work as well ????? Shit I know where to go when I need some help with math now.
