Taking Control of the Black Image

water

Transparent, tasteless, odorless
OG Investor
We all recognise that we need to take back control of our image.

We once had pride in who we are and defended our ability to achieve greatness and contribute in the world like anyone else under less tehn perfect circumstance.

however these gains are being lost with the young generation being fed SOLELY on entertainment & sports as the only legitimate avenue out of poverty.

Our struggle to reclaim sense of self is a collective responsibility. From the father next door, the mother babysitting the neighbors kids, from the college graduate to the barber shop.

A big part of ambition in kids is the belief that they can be what they dream.
However if they never know what they could become?????

So to make this short here is a list of media outlets that we can direct our complaints.

there are less gay members in gay advocacy groups than black people who are concerned and they get it done.

So let's get it done............

Kaya thanks you for this info.

Recently, I was at a small cafe (black-owned) and they had a Sunday brunch. Two of the featured artist were patrons I see at this place sometimes (both in their 70's), and I had no idea that they were premiere Jazz performers and both extremely well educated. It was a pleasure to see them perform and hear their stories. All this to say it's a big difference to sit in the presence of everyday black folks that came from a generation where you had to be EXCELLENT and articulate and no less was expected of you no matter what your talent or profession.

I would love for us to be able to get back to that.

great post. I'll pass the info around. If smaller groups have control over how they're portrayed in the media, why shouldn't we?

Why are you trying to place blame on the media when "blacks" are putting themselves in the spotlight for scrutiny. We are so quick to call FOX racist for giving more coverage to the Michael Vick case as opposed to the Chris Benoit story when the fact that he committed a crime remains. We are upset over television programming on B.E.T. that portray us in a negative light when the people on the opposite side of the cameras are black. The hell with writing FOX and all these other media outlets.

You need to get organized and start policing the black people in your communities you all feel so strongly about this. As long as folks have bills to pay ain't nobody trying to turn down anything. As long as our people are impoverished, crime will remain an issue. Fuck the media. Talk to the government. Talk to all these "ballers" who would rather buy $100,000 jewelery than give that to some hopeful college bound bound high school students who could really use the money. You don't need major corporate backing. Get on Youtube and spread your message instead of uploading some booty shaking video. So until we begin placing value on our self images and how we want the world to view us, nothing is gonna change. This shit will get worse before it gets any better. Blame yourselves.

Ignore whiteboy Steelwill and his "you", "you all", "yourselves".....

That's why black people make up words as a tool of survival because somehow "some people" love to give you their unsolicited opinion!!!

Mods have him under survellience......

If black people wanna change their image in the media, then they have to stop watching the shows that portray them in a negative light. The problem is that alot of the 18 to 32 year old that the viacom and these other media companies cater to, don't really care about the black image and keep watching these shows. The guys at the top in the media company see the ratings, think that this is what black folks want, and they keep on putting it on the airwaves.

If things are gonna change, black folks are gonna have to change up, cause Mr. Goldstein, or whoever's in charge of programming ain't gonna do it. The thing is that most black people are comfortable with their media image, and see nothing about it that needs improvment.

Man, I think we have enough talent in our community that we can just start running our own shit. I'd really like to see us start pooling resources and creating our own media companies that rival the big ones. We have people in the industry, we just need to work together. Until a brother or sister is running each one of those companies, with a staff that supports them 100%, we're always going to have problems. It pisses me off seeing how we are represented. Take the debate last night....I know there had to be a better video of someone asking about slavery reparations.

B.E.T's Hot Ghetto Mess

I want to strangle whoever thought that was a good idea.

Nice idea Kaya but imo it fails.

We aren't even in control of the media (The government and elite families are), and no matter what type of persuation and legitimate attempt we make to change the image prescribed to us it won't work. They are intentionally creating this false image of what black is, for what possible reason would they change their methods now????

I'm not even totally sure there is even a real avenue we could use in order to make this a reality, not only in the United States but around the world.

Sending in complaints won't do a damn thing imo and considering it is from the same group of people they're false advertising I know they could give a damn.

It's just like how it has played out for thousands of years, the winners inevitably create their version of history while everyone else has to follow it.

Thank you for your effort my brotha. But if we are to change the image of how we are being portrayed, we first have to create and maintain an avenue to give the proper image, as we see it. Anything other than that is falling upon deaf ears, and tainted sight. Will keep for future use, just in case.

I will support this...

Doing something instead of nothing,OSIRIAN PRINCIPLE.Just saving it for a so called "later use" is another perfect example of what Africans in america have a problem with...putting things off and making excuses to not do anything.

Bro, you are a cool brother but you have to de-program your mind.

"no matter what type of persuation and legitimate attempt we make to change the image prescribed to us it won't work"

Your schooling taught you that Lincoln freed the slaves. Are you going to wait on another white man????

My schooling taught me that the slaves burnt down plantations, ran away, killed massa etc..... until we became free.

It based on acknowledging that sacrifices need to be made even in the face of death.

If black men and women are brave enough to join the army and go to war with the possibility of dying then why is it so difficult to sacrifice for the greater good?

Could some African American explain this to me???

As I said earlier if a gay advocacy group could do it with much less numbers then we could do it.

The journey is too long to run away...........

Massa has tracking dogs..........

Some house "negroes" will sell us out.........

Massa has much more powerful weapons.......

At least we have the opportunity to grow our food after we work all day...

Fuck it.

We have to burn down the plantation!!!!

Grab a match, a torch, kerosene, gasolene, rubbing alcohol anything....... we need multiple approaches not just trying to find a silver bullet.

Don't tell me we can't cause my mother and father never used that word and they had it 10 times as hard...........

Don't get me hot.

Respect.

but in my case it's not about de-programming, it is about reality. They have been peddling this image of what Black is since the scramble of Africa by using nefarious methods into fooling our ancestors and people around the world into making them believe that blacks are sub human, lazy, and savages.

This campaign has been raging strong for hundreds of years with tremendous success unfortunately and the people behind it have the experiance/ know how and revenue to further perpetuate their agenda. They have done a successfull job in seperating us and making up bicker among ourselves with a large portion of us absolutely blind to what is infront of us. Our image along with many other ethnicities are being manipulated falsely through the media on purpose, and the people doing it are some of the most powerful people on the globe.

just about every fuckin thing there is. And Disney is one of the most obvious corrupt organizations there is, so should it suprise you that such programs and publications like ESPN, ABC, and US Weekly for example potray blacks in such a poor manner?

We need to trying to find out who is running these organizations that are purposefully corrupting our Image

Look at this disturbing trend, in 1983 there were over 50 media owned organizations, now there is only 5..........

VIACOM

WALT DISNEY

It's quite obvious that there is a Monopoly on the media and on what we see. By now you should of realized who in all likelyhood the main culprets are.

The people you want to change our image are the same people who basically control everything we see. And we all know what the eye see's can be misleading.....

I would like to change our image to but realize the people/organizations who are controlling and manipulating our image are the same people who run the world from behind the scenes, economoically and politically.

And these same three letter organizitions are covertly putting drugs into our community to fund their black budget projects and in doing so keeping us inslaved. So now we're fighting a war from two fronts.....the corrupt media and the corruption of the federal government.

We just can't send in complaints to bottom feeders, we have to cut the head of the snake that has several heads to choose from.

On another note, I am not convinced enough blacks are even aware of the magnitude in which our image is poorly portrayed. Some from even personal experiance are deef, blind, and dumb to the methods in which are used to keep us shackled mentally. I like idea Osirian had about creating our own station but how long will it take before it is bought out by Disney or some other white owned organization??????

In order for this to work we have to be united in the effort, and I don't believe at this time the black community as a whole is even aware of the subtle onslaught we're under at this present time. The change or our image will be because of an all out revolution on our part, not by sending in complaints to ESPN and Faux News.

If black men and women are brave enough to join the army and go to war with the possibility of dying then why is it so difficult to sacrifice for the greater good?

Imo they have no understanding of what "sacrifice for the greater good" consists of

The target has moved from 50 to 5.

The objective should be easier now right?

Ignore whiteboy Steelwill and his "you", "you all", "yourselves".....

That's why black people make up words as a tool of survival because somehow "some people" love to give you their unsolicited opinion!!!

Mods have him under survellience......

For the very last time I am not white. Secondly, I feel that you are full of shit. Answer me this brother, exactly how many meetings have you held in the past year? How many young brothers have you spoken to? Are you an active member of the NAACP? Do you donate to the United Negro College Fund? Before you ask, I am not, nor have I ever. I like to see where my money is going and feel the NAACP is full of shit.

Pull your head outta your ass man and wake up. Fuck all the text book talk. I'm speaking to you man to man in raw form. Black people need to be held accountable for their own actions. I do not have a college degree, not like this shit wasn't obvious. But I strive for greater things now that I'm older. The past few years I have been in the military deployed 3 years of my fucking life. All that shit is gone. I still have more common sense then most people who try to get me to join some bullshit ass opposition against corporate America. I'm not pointing fingers at you. You're knowledgeable, but I feel you are pointing fingers in the wrong direction. We are the blame.

No, the weaker companies were bought out by giants, if anything the target is stronger because they have complete control over what we see and can manipulate peoples opinions more effectively without variety being available.

It's way bigger than what you and I could imagine, like I said the people/organizations that are in control of networks, newspapers, and radio are the same group of people who secretrly influence and control the world. We have a fight on our hands.

The problem kayanation is that you are like 100% socialist....and that method will not work in America.

There is no single banner that black Americans can stand behind such as a foreign country or nationality.

The only equalizer is skin color and the many hardships that stem from it, and for many that fluctuates.

Blacks in America are much too diverse in every aspect to have an identity movement at this point in time.

While some sit and worry about the image of blacks as a whole , others will be more concerned about self-image in spite of what exists in the media.

Fire!!!!
This needs to be linked to the other threads about slang, banning saggy pants, etc. Could NOT have said it better myself!
Won't even try!
