Stop buying Firesticks. Amazon is disabling side loaded apps.

My tv doesn't support the Spectrum app...which is what I need to view my cable channels.
So I had to get the Firestick.

How did you get spectrum on the firestick. I thought it was only on roku/google devices

Fire sticks are played out and garbage with all the restriction bullshit. Meanwhile android boxes you can side load apps and do whatever you want which is why people like myself like Android boxes better and have been using it for years.
What restrictions?

I got a message last night that my LiveNetTV & UKTURKS was disabled. I had all permissions for data collection off. I also had the option to install unknown apps enabled. Even after restoring it to factory defaults I was unable to reinstall the very apps that made me buy a Firestick. That stick is now in a package with a return label. Amazon can eat a bag of dicks. I bought an android box to replace that ratchet Firestick.

I used android boxes and never had any problems with putting premium apps on it that they never got taken down.
Can someone give me more info on android boxes?
I use Google tv
How much is that? Is it subscription based?

the firestick is simply an android box....

the thing is...is that its the most popular and widely used android box....but its nothing special....

theres tons of them out there....

shyt if you have an android phone you can flash that to your tv....

just buy another box....you'll be fine...
Damn, I'm behind on all this.
What are some better alternatives to firetv stick?

I have one on standby. I plan to buy 2 more. Honestly, dumb move by Amazon. Sales of Firesticks are going to drop drastically.

I'm glad to have android. I see android sales gonna be booming since a lot of people can't use piracy on fire stick gonna start buying android boxes..

I'm in the middle of this dilemma right now. Will this affect Smarters and/or Tivimate? In the meantime, negotiating to purchase a used Nvidia Shield Android Pro for $80 right now.

Nope, smarters and tivimate aren't IPTV they're just a player that you use to install your IPTV services on. The issue is people using piracy apps or IPTV services on these boxes that are being banned on fire sticks but not on android boxes.

(So far), my IPTV services on my Smarters and Tivimate haven't been affected/banned. My family in their own homes will be affected behind this too. They have the same setup (Firesticks). One of my TV's is Google Os based, so I wouldn't need an external Android device, right? Urgh.

It's about the streaming box you use it on, fire stick can still ban the IPTV service you use since they don't want it on their device but if you put that same IPTV service that you use on an android box is when you'll be fine.

Again I need folks to tell me what apps they can't use or are being banned on firesticks. Cause my firesticks doing numbers at home and at work. Shit sitting here now at work watching my firestick

Flix Vision, UK Turks and LiveNetTV were disabled on my Firestick. That was if for me. I sent back the Firestick and got an Android Box.

Amazon has launched an aggressive new initiative to combat digital piracy on its popular Fire TV platform, announcing that sideloaded applications designed for illegal streaming will soon be rendered inoperable across millions of devices worldwide according to The Sun. The move, executed through software updates, represents the company’s most direct intervention yet into user-installed content, targeting apps that facilitate unauthorized access to movies, TV shows, live sports, and premium programming.

The crackdown stems from an expanded collaboration with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a powerful anti-piracy coalition comprising over 50 major entertainment giants, including Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Amazon itself. ACE maintains a dynamic blacklist of applications known to distribute or enable pirated content, which Amazon will now cross-reference against installed software on Fire TV sticks, cubes, and smart TVs. Devices running both the traditional Android-based Fire OS and the newer Linux-derived Vega OS will be affected, ensuring uniform enforcement.

This marks a pivotal shift for Amazon, which has long permitted sideloading—installing apps from outside the official Appstore—as a feature for developers and enthusiasts. The blacklist approach allows ACE to update threats in real time, adapting to new piracy tools that emerge in the cat-and-mouse game of digital evasion.

Piracy has plagued the streaming industry for years, costing billions in lost revenue and fragmenting viewer experiences amid rising subscription fees. Fire TV devices, with their affordable price points and easy modification, became hotspots for “dodgy” setups pre-loaded with illegal services or add-ons promising free access to paywalled channels. Sellers on online marketplaces often marketed these modified sticks as budget alternatives to costly cable bundles, fueling a shadow economy that exposed users to cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

By partnering with ACE, Amazon aligns itself more closely with Hollywood’s enforcement arm, which has notched victories like shutting down massive piracy hubs FMovies and StreamEast earlier this year. The coalition’s intelligence-sharing enables precise targeting, focusing on apps that scrape unauthorized streams rather than broadly restricting the platform. This selective strategy aims to protect creators while shielding consumers from the hidden dangers of unregulated software, including viruses that hijack devices for botnets or cryptocurrency mining.

For everyday users reliant on official services—Netflix, Disney+, or Hulu—the changes will be seamless. Official apps and sideloaded benign alternatives continue uninterrupted.

People must not know that Android is planning on doing the same exact thing when it comes to blocking side loaded apps. Android boxes will be next on the chopping block.

You can root an Android Box. That kills Googles ability to control your device. My Android Box is rooted.
