Star Wars The Last Jedi (SPOILER Discussion thread)

The Empire Strikes Back is at the top 1 or 2 of every list, but Palpatine was not explained in the original movies.
"The Emperor" was just a powerful unknown for 20 Earth years.
Snoke may not be revealed in this Trilogy.

Apparently, using the force is more of the point in 7+8 and Rogue One than lightsaber duels.
And we only imagined that Luke trained extensively to be a Jedi, but we know Yoda told
him he was not ready to leave and should have completed his training.

Rey, was hotheaded and faced a more powerful mirror of her Dark Side
unlike Luke who only had visions of Vader on a neutral planet. Jedis control
what is within them but facing the Dark Side is important.

1. The Empire strikes back
2. Rogue one
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Force Awakens
5. A New hope
6. The Last Jedi
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. Attack of the clones
9. Phantom menace

What I liked..

FUCKIN' LAURA DERN!!!
I've had a crush on this chick since "FOXES".
She looked absolutely STUNNING with that purple hair and shit.
And her sacrifice was FUCKIN' AWESOME!!!

That as much as I want to rip on John Williams for his constant recycling of his music,
His use of "TIE FIGHTER ATTACK" from the first film, for the Millennium Falcon's rescue on Crait bought me to chills.
That's still my favorite music piece in STAR WARS to this day.

What I didn't like...

Let's face it. The new films are a retread of the "original" trilogy.
Adam Driver's Emo-Vader bullshit...AGAIN!
Snoke's headquarters came off like a cheap Opera set. I've been to Operas and seen better.
Luke coming off and looking like Chuck Norris.
Benicio Del Toro. That could have easily been Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. You know how much that would have meant to REAL Fans???

And my main piss-off.
There was NO CHEMISTRY between Finn and Raye. You would think that after all that shit of Finn risking life and limb for Raye in "THE FORCE AWAKENS", their finally meeting would have some intensity (it didn't have to be romantic. Though that would have helped). But it was like all that drama between them in the previous film didn't even happen.

And some plot holes issues. Which I'm going to backtrack on this thread first. Just to see if anyone else here had the same issues.

I still enjoyed the film though for sure.

- The Emporer was explained in the original trilogy. It was just a gradual slow build. He was a shadowy figure who's character was expanded upon in each movie. Initially he was someone mysterious who seduced Anakin. Then he was shown to be force sensitive and whom Vader only feigned loyalty to. Finally we were shown he had unique darkside force powers & unyeilding control of Vader.
- The prequel trilogy was as much about Palpatine's complicated/convoluted rise to power as much as Anakin.
- After watching & knowing all that we're supposed to assume Snoke somehow essentially recreated the same scenario. Despite Luke's & the Force Ghost Jedi's knowledge of the recent past that damn near destroyed them. And was so complete that Luke went into hiding for years. Then we not suppose to care about how/why this happened. Then were not supposed to care that Snoke is dispatched with the quickness and the forgotten.

From a New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, ROTJ , how did the Emperor gain his power and how are all the good
guys rebels? It was not explained.

People are coming into the Last Jedi thinking they have to already know all of the backstories and all there is to know about the Force.
Because these are meant to be rewards for fans who have read the canon, watched the cartoons and so forth. So that we
can go into these new movies and say "unn, huh". I knew that was going to happen. The Force must be strong in Me

We have been shown even with Rogue One, there is at least a non-Skywalker slant that can fill an entire movie. I don't think we
are supposed to assume we know what happened since Force Awakens was a fresh take and The Force is taking a greater role
in everything.

The Jedi are supposed to be the keepers of Peace and Justice. Luke was not strong enough to do this himself and I think he used that
"laser sword" argument before. That is why it was revealed Leia becomes a General and Luke is off somewhere complaining like he did
when he was younger. Luke was not like his father, Obi-Wan or others. He was resolved only when in the presence of Vader, the Emperor
or Jabba. Which made him great at times, I guess. A Jedi Mr October. Jedi Robert Horry. But he was apparently no MVP of the regular season.

What I'm saying is, though the Emperor wasn't fully explained in the Original Trilogy, he was still built upon. We learned a little bit more in each movie. It may not have been super detailed, but it was enough. The story still made sense.

That's not the case now. 2 movies and we don't know shit. Now he's dead. You can't make him a carbon copy of the previous bad guy and still play him as mysterious. We've seen it before. Better. You gotta change it up. Instead, the creators just tapped out.

If I may the thing with the emperor was revealed to be a political power in ANH With the grand announcement of how he dissolved the senate.

In ESB we saw even vader deferred to him when he was like clear us out of this asteroid field so I can make a clear phone call.

And the 3rd way we know he was a bad ass he had a title we could all relate to fucking emperor!!!

With Snoke he has what sounds like a bullshit made up title... Supreme leader?!?

The two things that come to mind when I here Supreme leader is the fat kid in North Korea or Jim Jones leading dumb asses to drink poisoned kool-aid.

And while TFA attempts to put Snoke on the same level as the emperor, it really didn't work and than with TLJ Rian Johnson killed it with his fuck you JJ moments.

just by this list I know...

your taste in movies is trash

But on that basis, you insulted me... So I am trying to
find out if I am required to like what you like, or to
obtain your approbation of choices...
that was not an insult... simply stated an opinion about your taste, or lack there of, in movies

My order from best to worst
  1. Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back
  2. Episode 4 - A New Hope
  3. Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi
  4. Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith
  5. Episode 1 -Phantom Menace
  6. Episode 2 - Attack of the clones
  7. Episode 7 - The Force Awakens
  8. Star Wars - Rogue One
  9. Episode 8- The Last Jedi

Because I do not like what you like?
nah - based on the order of your list you seem to like bad acting, anemic screenplays, and poorly paced plots...

you may just have trash discernment - or prefer that quality of movie...

That is your opinion. Why do you want me to place it above mine?

stop being defensive...
thats a lot of assumptions on your part - first you're feeling insulted...
now you feel that there is a greater priority on my opinion over yours...

all because your taste in movies is trash?

I am not going to play your little games. The simple question which
you have failed or refused to answer is: "why do I have to like what
you like?"

or more simply, "why should I give a fuck about your opinion?"

You did not answer shit. All you have done is run around a circle.
I have been asking you for more than 7 hours why the fuck I should
agree with you, and you obviously have nothing to say. The truth
is that you have your opinion, I have mine. So mind your own
business.

I read and write better than you ever
have or will...

Your deficient reasoning ability fails
to allow you to see that you cannot
impose your predilections on other
people. You are the simple idiot who
runs in little cliques where all of have
to subsume their their judgement in
order to fit with the pack. I do not
behave like that, and I have tolerated
you for 7 hours, not because I think you
have anything of value to say, but to
impart to your useless self that useful
life lesson that human beings have the
right of free choice, and they do not
need your puerile preferences to make
their minds

My best to worst.

1. TLJ
2. ESB
3. R1
4/5. ANH/TFA
6. ROTJ
7. RTOS
8. TPM
9. ATOC

When ESB came out not too many people liked it.
It is only after the fact that it has been heralded the best one of the OT.
TLJ is probably going to be seen the same way. It is not a crowd pleaser like the other movies and it actually has a lot to say which a movie should have something to say. It is a throwback to how movies used to be rich and didn't necessarily cater to our whims as fans.

the one thing i like about the prequels was the way the emperor was playing chess with everybody. he had the senate relinquish their power to him to control the republic while cause the terrorist attacks on the republic, scouting/ grooming his apprentice, introduced the empire while purging the jedis. the emperor was mindfucking the galaxy on another level.

Okay finally saw it...

Slow ass bomb that float down in open space?? And for all the PROTECT THE BOMBERS...no one did.

Super Leia?? WHATS NOT QUITE RIGHT?? THIS BITCH GETS EXPLODED OUT INTO SPACE DOESN'T HAVE ONE SCRATCH ON HER!

You could have cut the whole casino thing cuz that part just DRAGS

Snoke was a fake out?? Alot of buildup for someone defeated so easily

Captain Phasma is a completely pointless character with even less to do than Boba Fett had in the OT

Rose and Finn?? I'm cool with it..just a little out of left field especially since they made us think Finn and Rey may hook up..

Adm Holdo...why was she wearin in a war zone what looks like a gown that would be worn on the red carpet at the golden globes??

The Luke Shootdown scene was BADASS

Like cowboys...old Jedis don't die they just slowly fade away

The porgs were pointless

BB8 made his bones in this flick and can take his place along side R2D2 as best droid companion EVER

Overall I liked it...its definitely a step up from FA..But its DEFINITELY for THIS generation..not old heads who are still chasing the OT dragon high....:D

thats about all for now..

Just saw it with the kid.

She LOVED it.

It was good I gotta see it again.

I was expecting Leia to die so I liked that I had no idea what was going to happen..

Liked seeing luke...

Leia

That red salt battle is cinematic visual masterpiece

The droids.

Imperial crimson troops

Good light moments.

Great ending, visually amazing throughout.

Ok what was weak?

The bombers scene just didn't work, horrible ships...

And I get the world war style b52 bombers etc but it just didnt make sense.
Why didn't she immediately hyper jump into the huge first order ship
Not allowing Finn & Rey to be a couple
It was obvious they back tracking
So now they FRIENDS?
And she likes Poe off a handshake?
Rose loves Finn enough to die for him?
A little too much Kylo & Rey psychic link.
Didn't like the poog?
Del Toro didn't work for me & the stutter was unnessary.
Wow that casino scene fell flat
Why kill Phasma? That was a darth maul level waste of a character.

And even with ALL that?

I STILL would pay full price to see it again in the theatre.

DUDE LET PHASMA DIE!! STOP THAT SHIT! PHASMA IS A NOTHING CHARACTER!!! JUST SOME BIG BITCH IN A SILVER SUIT THATS IT! SHE'S NOT IMPORTANT TO ANY STORYLINE NOT EVEN FINN'S! :scream::pain:

okay I got that out of my system...sorry bout the outburst..

but for some reason fans keep latching onto the most useless characters then create a buzz around them and force the filmmakers to shoehorn a bigger role for them when its completely unnecessary. I call it BOBA FETT SYNDROME. Its the ONLY reason he had a role in the PT when he shouldn't have. Phasma is the same thing.

You know they trying to figure out some way to bring her back for Ep. 9 (CLONE  )

And it seems Luke is alive..though in a different universe
