Stacey Abrams announces she's running for governor in Georgia

No one you know is going to benefit from student loan forgiveness, the cost of living increase for Social Security, the cap on prescriptions and insulin for Medicare? The CHIPs & science act? Jobs making batteries for electric cars? The ability to get hearing aids over the counter? The expanded mental health funding? The upcoming changes to the ACA to make health insurance more affordable for families? The infrastructure projects because of the funding? The investments in public transit? The child tax credit that would be continuing had the GOP not blocked it?

I know this is I'm regard to republican policies, but the concept still works for my example.

Yall only want to give trickle down policy that "will effect Black people too"

Same concept

I'm not surprised. I used to have such high hopes for you, too.
@Camille Cut it out. What Killer Mike is doing is merely going against the southern tradition of blindly voting democrat without having them earn our vote.

That's not cooning, it's just logic. That doesn't mean he's endorsing Kemp or any republican, he just wants all candidates to earn black people's vote, more specifically, black men's vote.

Think broader, its bigger than this race, its bigger than these candidates, but it has to start somewhere. If they ain't gon listen to us before they get in office, then what incentive do they have to listen to us after they're elected? :dunno:

As a black man, my voting priorities are:

Reparations (even if she cannot effect change I need her position to align with mine)
Police reform
Legislation specifically for black men as business owners
Gun rights (permitless carry)
Lower taxes (on fuel, etc)

I know you posted the video of her with the panel with 21 Savage, but I don't have much in common with him and I'm not sure he speaks for my demographic. I have more in common with Killer Mike.

Let's play GOD'S advocate for a minute. Does meeting with a candidate equal endorsing them? Doesn't that just say that the candidate is willing to listen to you and your constituents?

I don't care for Kemp. I don't approve of how he did during the last election as Secretary of State. I do think Abrams would be a Better Governor for black people, but knowing how politics works, I have to ask "At what cost?"
Remember Georgia is and has been a RED state. Atlanta is progressive, the rest of the state is backwards ass.

But let's say he wins, HYPOTHETICALLY. Won't we still need to be able to be heard?
Won't we still need to be able to get his ear?
Wont we still need our agenda met?
Regardless of who wins we need someone that's gon work on our behalf and not just give us lip service.

What better way of making sure of that than to make sure all candidates respect our vote and take us seriously?

@dHustla

I get what you are saying. (This may not be specifically for you because you may know this but others need to see it.) The things that came to my mind are ironically, democrats tend to address those issues to various degrees and some times with success.

Reparations has been worked on but not successfully.
Definitely been involved with trying to figure out better police reform.
The business owner part tends to be more general.
Democrats always work on ways to lower taxes for middle income and down folks. Conservatives are the only ones that want tax cuts for the highest earners.

Your Hypothetical is pretty interchangeable to each candidate. People can check and follow up on the winner by what they promised on their website.

On your priorities, I can see Kemp keeping the gun rights as it is but if the Leg is still Republican dominated, Stacey can reverse it if she could. Both candidates will lower taxes but for with categories is the issue.

Thank you.

But we want more than just a nod on these issues, we want results!

Like you said with reparations, no success, no results. That's unacceptable.

I want police accountability. Harsh punishment for police brutality. I lost a cousin to police shooting him inside his home last year, no disciplinary action taken, no charges.

I want specific, targeted resources for black businesses statewide. The same for black homeowners.

What exactly is conservative? Pardon my ignorance

Right. Lower taxes for which categories that matter to my demographic the most.

If she talking gun control she not getting my vote, plain and simple.

Like the brother here says, "they don't keep us safe, we keep us safe"

Permitless Carry won't change because she won't have the votes in the leg or the data to make a convincing argument to change. It's a non-issue.

Out of all of her agendas, ask yourself, "how could she get this done if she's in office?"

Here's Kemps

Can't she do the equivalent of an executive order, but just on a state level? Idk

Im sorry to read about your cousin and hope Justice comes to your family. My wife’s cousin was killed while in police custody.

Bro. I felt your post. I think that’s the struggle lots of people have with politics. It’s easy for items to get jammed up because it doesn’t reach a majority consensus.

Conservative is bad short hand for Republicans and also, small government influence. Truth of the matter, there are members of all political parties that sway conservative or liberal in their wants and thinking.

The issues I have with the Republican Party leadership and supporters is that they intentionally have been fucking government up by not legislating, proactively use racial aggressive tactics, intentionally make it harder for Black and Brown people to vote and changing district lines, talk big about business, open markets and federal government over reach but don’t do shit to really make things better (perfect example, the major power outage in Texas: leadership removed Texas power grid from national power grid system. It was supported by Texans. The grid is fucked and was/is made cheaper than it should be because power companies want to spend as little as possible. Wasn’t built/maintained to Federal standards. I don’t think there has been any major improvement to the grid still).

I’m going to stop there because I’ll start going on and on.

I reckon Stacy aight.

@Camille Why you going so hard for Stacy? Yoon even stay down here!
Is it because she looks like you?

Let me find out you can cook some Georgia collards

I don't for one second believe you watched that panel. There is no way you would be focused more on who attended vs what she said if you had, and IMO the issues you raise would have been addressed.

You can be a single issue voter if you want, (gun control) but IMO that is short sighted. I'm not so much going hard for Stacey, tho I think she is an excellent candidate, as I am against Kemp after seeing how he treated black voters. You may not be in one of the areas affected by the hospital closures, but the entire state is going to be affected as the remaining hospitals have high volume and even neighboring states who take on the overflow.

As far as KM goes, as I explained here, https://www.bgol.us/forum/threads/was-i-right-camille-and-other-democrats.1185346/#post-23431928 after years of talking about the need for a problack agenda, he didn't support Kemp because he offered one. He got to shake that white man's hand on camera, figured he came up in the world, and proclaimed policy no longer mattered. HIS WORDS, not mine. What policies for black people has Kemp implemented or said he would implement? Killer Mike hasn't mentioned any and I haven't seen any. What pro black policies has he offered that you agree with? Stats I've seen currently show black businesses get less than 1% of any contracts. What was it when Kemp came into office and what has he pledged to do? How has it improved under his leadership? Stacey had an answer for that.

The issue I have with you is that you aren't listening to the CANDIDATES, you're listening to and being swayed back and forth by OTHER PEOPLES VIEWS AND OPINIONS on the candidates. Whether it's because you don't have the time, the interest, or are just mentally lazy, you only have superficial takes. I can't do the work for you though. It's perfectly fine to come to a different conclusion than I have, but going from your response you are going by feelings and not facts. Other than your issue of gun control, you haven't said how your priorities are being addressed by Kemp. What is he doing for reparations and all the other things you listed?

Camille.. *sigh*

I clicked the links to both candidates' agendas posted by @Politic Negro
I read both. Gun control is not my only priority, I listed them earlier in this thread.

Killer Mike is doing the same as you in getting people to do the work in choosing candidates and promoting that people be objective. Stop picking on him. Killer Mike nor I have endorsed Kemp. You make it seem like he went full kanye with the maga hat.

Now I'm mentally lazy and superficial? :rolleyes2:
At this point you're just bullying me. I SAID STACEY IS AIGHT. I'm voting for her, ok? Is that what you want?!

...myy goodness! :fuckyousay::hmm:

She betta for like she told, tho.

And what's up with the collard greens?

Mentally lazy was one of 3 options but yes your takes have been superficial. You have already said that if she is pro gun reform you aren't voting for her so my only conclusion is you would vote for Kemp or not at all.

Killer Mike is a different issue. He wants a black agenda FROM STACEY, but when it comes to Kemp:

"More than anything, I’m a Southerner. I’m a Black man. I’ve been raised in a traditionally Democratic city. But my state is pretty conservative, always has been. So, as a Southern man, I connected pretty much instantly with him. Politics and policy don’t matter to me as much as human decency and principles, and he seemed to be a principled human being when I talked to him."
