Spurs Vs Grizzles Thread

Yeah man I wanted to see Memphis get some shine

:smh:

memphis ain't getting any shine, dude.

you can't let loose zbo & gasol on the block if the WHOLE DAMN SPURS TEAM is camped-out in the lane.

the refs have NOT CALLED a single illegal defense on the spurs. none.

zbo has NO space or is double-teamed.
gasol is big but he's NOT a banger down low.

coach pop figured this team out long, long ago... just pile everyone in the lane and make them beat you with the jumper. newsflash: the grizz don't have anyone who can consistently make jumpers.

:smh::smh::smh:

on the defensive end, the spurs are running some type of hybrid defense... running hard double-teams on some plays and then running blind-side double-teams.

there is NO one-on-one play for zbo; he's facing two or three players EVERY time he touches the ball.

whoever guards tayshaun just leaves him and helps everyone else. that's how i'd do it. that's how pop is doing it

Just finished watching. Dam good game. Duncan showing his worth once again as the team fucking collapsed once he went out for an extended time and his presence didnt spread the floor and open shots (combined with parker showing fatigue). Game three is gonna be interesting. I cant call it either way, Griz could blow them out or Spurs could steal one.

We got both. A blowout and the road team stealing one. Good call.

This is a 3-0 series but its been the best 3-0 series ive seen in memory. I think Lionels lineup fuckery caused them this one.

what's crazy is that i think they called that shit 2 or 3 times against Indiana in game 2 but the spurs just parking bodies in the paint

:yes::yes::yes:

the ECF games have illegal defense calls.

but the spurs are getting away with it because they're rotating the double team from BOTH the strong & weak side.

iow, the grizz doesn't know where the double is coming from and the refs are not calling it; they are double-teaming AND keeping everyone else in the lane.

whoever guards tayshaun just leaves him and helps everyone else. that's how i'd do it. that's how pop is doing it

prince = garbage. period. i always thought he was over-rated.

you can't stretch the floor when teyshaun can't hit the broad side of a barn with the basketball.

he can't shoot... never developed into a threat. and when he does make a jumper, you can bet good money that he can't do it consistently.

a sweep = the grizz team gets blown-up with a nuclear bomb.

grizzlies advance over the clippers minus blake griffin.

grizzlies advance over the thunder minus russell westbrook.

welcome to WORSTern conference basketball.

two things i want to see

1. pop without duncan
2. bellicheat without brady

these coaches get legend status for simply having all time greats

Pop is a great coach. He has had SA in the mix since 99, they battled early 2000's Pheonix(Stat/Nash) Lakers (Shaq/Kobe) Sacremento (Webber/Bibby) Dallas (Noviski etc) All those teams have long been dismantled and some guys retired but SA is still here fucking with the new generation with 3 old all stars and bunch of regular role players. Damn near every year they got the best or second best record in the west. That is a direct result of great management and great couching plus great system.

Yes great players do make the job easier for some coaches. Jerry Sloan had great Marlone and Stockon but they they only made it to the finals twice. Early 90's Rick Adelman had Drexler and a great Blazers team but they aint win nothing. Del Harris had Shaq and Kobe but couldn't do shit with them until Phil came along. Mike Brown had Lebron but what happened?

So it goes both ways. A great coach can make great players into a dynasty.

That sounds retarded. Its the "worst" because niggas got hurt? A Thunder team minus Westbrook and a Clippers team minus Blake would still shit on any team out East side from Miami. And I like how you don't mention no injuries on the East. The league still wondering where Rose at.....its been a good playoffs. This whole "worst" shit is ridiculous.

What legendary coach didn't have a all time great? Isn't that what makes them legendary? Because they know how to coach great players? Look at Mike D'antoni. He's had greats and he's fucked it up because he's a terrible coach.

Pop plays Duncan 25 to 30 minutes a night during the season. He doesn't need Duncan to win games. Even without Duncan they'd compete.

Pop's won rings despite never having the best player in the league and doing it with a young Tony Parker who i'd credit Pop for because he was the one dogging Parker when he'd fuck up and he was the one who would sit him for Jacque Vaughn until he gets his head out of his ass.

I know its over but please don't let them close it out Monday at home, especially

Entire city spent so much energy into this team,Spurs are better

memphis has NO ANSWER for tony parker & the oldest play in NBA history... the pick & roll.

at one time, he didn't have the pull-up jumper, but now that he does... it makes him a triple threat:

1. off the pick, he's still SUPER fast to drive to the basket.
2. off the pick, he's ALWAYS had the floater.
3. go under the pick, he's got a consistent jumper now.

it's HARD as fuck to stop that when the roll man is tim motherfucking duncan. :smh::smh::smh:

once he gets around conley, the bigs are too slow to rotate, and if they do, the late roll to duncan is open AND/OR a wide-open 3-pt specialist like bonner.

i hate the fucking spurs, but if you want to learn basketball, this is the ULTIMATE team to watch bc they play as a team with EVERYONE touching the ball as it rotates side-to-side. this ain't "melo" ball where 4 mofos stand around and watch carmelo lead the knicks to the...

on defense, as i've kept saying, and as mark gasol has stated, and as commentators have stated, the spurs are simply packing the lane and double/triple teaming gasol and zbo. again, there has NOT been a single illegal defense called in this series. none.

in the ECF, i think the refs have called more illegal defenses in a half than they've called in the entire WCF series.

Pop's won rings despite never having the best player in the league.

Pop is a great coach and I don't even think that is up for dispute. Unlike Brooks, Spo, etc.... when the Spurs come out of a timeout, it's almost an automatic easy bucket. I can't even count how many times just in this playoffs I've seen them either get a wide open spot up three or an easy layup out of a timeout. That's a small example but it's something great coaches tend to do. Plus, he's team has pretty much been a contender for damn near two decades despite rotating a gang of different players every season.

But you're one your own on that statement. Duncan is by far the greatest player at his position so clearly Pop had the luxury of having the best player in the league on his team for multiple years.

.

And they're smart enough to run that shit to death.

It's frustrating has as hell to see Miami and Indiana have CLEAR mismatches in the post with Lebron and Hibbert and see them just let the defense off the hook by not going to it more often. George can't defend Lebron in the post but he's probably one of the best defenders on the perimeter :smh:

Also unselfish.

Name a player who opts out of a max contract to take less to keep his team together.

21 million to 9 million

That's another thing the spurs had players who will sacrifice for the team

Tim is one of the last of a dying breed

As much as I hate the Spurs I wouldn't mind seeing him get another ring

He is the greatest of his generation

this series has gone exactly how i thought. all that media love as well as some guys here was sickening to see. Memphis had no chance because their offense isnt built to win a series like this. some of you said Gasol and Randolph were plenty of offense.. no idea how you thought that. even worse lots of folks thought they were the best matchup for Miami..

the grizz would give the heat MORE problems than the pacers... because zbo is better than west and posts deeper than west.

gasol and hibbert are a wash on offense, but hibbert has an advantage defensively.

the EASIEST match-up for the heat is the spurs bc the spurs don't play two legit post men at the same time. that's PERFECT for bosh & haslem to defend.

miami almost lost game 1 and did lose game 2. i have no idea why you niccas think this team can't be beat. basketball is about match-ups... and many of y'all also thought the 'high-flying' clippers would route the 'old man basketball-playing' grizz.

:smh::smh::smh:

i hate the fucking spurs, but if it's the spurs & miami, i can guarantee you, coach pop will make spoelstra look like an idiot if they don't/can't defend the tim duncan & tony parker pick & roll.
