Good Article, Get up started to get it's legs when they let Greeny solo. He brings the best out of his co-host.

Although I don't watch First Take, I'm not surprised it's beating Skip and Shannon. Skip's daily act of being mad at a player gets stale after awhile. This dude was coming on the air every morning pretending to be mad a Kawhi Leonard. That shit got stale in a hurry. One of the mellowest Kats in the world and this dude is bashing him every day o_O Plus I ask are there any other teams other than the Cowboys.

Apparently all the talking head shows on espn have gone up in the ratings.

So i think this "no politics " approach may have worked.

The LUCKED into the success of the Jump. And i wonder if a weekly show in that same format for hockey or baseball would work.

They do need to cover more nfl teams BESIDES the cowboys.

Also All the football shows are way to serious.

As a black person sometimes you don't want to say, "why can't a sports show be a sports show" because you know the backlash is coming from other brothers. I don't mind a sports show talking politics when there is an issue that intersect into politics, like the Kaepernick incident, other than that I don't want to hear no damn politics.

When the host is on the otherside of an issue like Will Cain or Doug Gottlieb I change the channel. I'm sure when Jemele Hill goes on her political rants, white viewers feel the same way.

To be fair ESPN it's like in three times as many homes as foxsports as it's a part of the basic cable package

I know I am late but would attribute espn's recent success to the NBA.

the playoffs were phenomenal, the KD, the end of golden state dynasty and the wildest free agent summer ever.

those talking head shows did so well talking nba

Good riddance.

Damn, three of four.

I would've thought they were happy with Pierce drawing soooo much attention.

I think Beadle is as good of a host as Ernie Johnson. :dunno:

For some reason none of them respected Paul, even the woman used to be shitting on him..smh

They need to stick with putting men on these shows and stop just throwing these women on these shows (NBA, NFL, FIRST TAKE, UNDISPUTED, etc....) for gender equality. Michelle Beadle and most those other women don’t know shit, just be taking up space. The few that do seem know something are still sideline reporters while those like Molly, Beadle, Joy Taylor, chick hosting ESPN Sunday nfl countdown on tv everyday getting their info from producers by their earpiece

:smh:

That's just bad business-- Women watch basketball and more will watch if you include them. That's 50% of the potential audience, you can't just exclude them.

Rachel Nichols is as good at her job as anyone else in a similar position.

The only trick is to put qualified women out there and not eye candy. Ex-WNBA players need to be more utilized-- Lisa Leslie on TNT is better than many of the male ex-athletes they bring on.

I didn't have any problem with the old group but two female hosts is a good move.

(I think ESPN needs to focus more on women as participants rather than hosts, though-- it comes off as if, should they be included, a woman's place is to set the table for what is still men's conversation.)

I feel a bit sorry for Paul Pierce-- He was probably playing the role ESPN wanted with encouragement at every step.

“KRS-One, one of my favorite rappers, he always said that he kept a diss record for everybody in the top ten in case somebody wanted to come at him,” he said. “In the debate world, what you’re trying to come up with is facts, stats, and figures that may be body blows, may be head shots, if you need them. Yes, that debate did become personal, and I regret that it became personal. In our banter, I did bring up some intel that I had done. I got some of it off Black Sports Online. I vetted it, and so when I was on the show and the debate became personal, I exposed the information that I had about his high school career. As I look back at it, I should have handled it different.”

ESPN’s plan to reignite Katie Nolan’s show

MORE ON:

Katie Nolan is receiving a reboot at ESPN.

In its continuing effort to find the right fit for Nolan, who was a multimillion dollar signing in 2017, her weekly show is being moved to a late-night slot on ESPN2, The Post has learned.

Nolan has been an enigma for ESPN executives since she was signed two years ago to a contract that pays her around $1.3 million per year, according to sources.

After not doing much for the first year of her deal, she has headed a program called “Always Late with Katie Nolan” on the network’s relatively new direct-to-consumer service, ESPN+. After 12 months, ESPN is trying a different tack for Nolan as her show didn’t find much viewership, according to sources, as ESPN doesn’t release numbers on individual programs.

Disney has said ESPN+ has more than 2.4 million subscribers.

The program has made a couple of viral videos and did receive a Sports Emmy nomination, but did not make much traction with subscribers.

In fairness to “Always Late,” the lack of impact on ESPN+ may be attributed to the fact that these direct-to-consumer video services are more of a platform for games than programs, especially ones that are not pre-established. In most cases, they are more additive than drivers for subscriptions.

ESPN executives still believe Nolan’s edginess can work on the Disney-owned networks. Her program will be on Thursdays at 12:30 a.m. with the first show debuting on Sept. 26. ESPN2 is in nearly 84 million homes.

As part of the reboot, Nolan will increase her presence on Facebook, according to sources. She also has a podcast called “Sports? With Katie Nolan.”

She used to host the two- to four-minute SportsCenter Snapchats on occasion. She is no longer doing that.

Before coming to ESPN, Nolan was at Fox Sports, which had trouble finding the exact fit for her as well, though she did a win a social media Sports Emmy with her program “Garbage Time.”

ESPN moves ‘Outside the Lines’ from a daily to a weekly show

ESPN’s news-driven afternoon show, “Outside the Lines,” will be downsized from its current daily 30-minute afternoon slot to an hour-long Saturday morning edition, the network announced Tuesday. The noon edition of “SportsCenter” will expand in its place.
OTL serves as ESPN’s main news offering for hard-hitting stories not typically covered by “SportsCenter.” Bob Ley, the show’s longtime host, retired in June after taking a leave of absence last year. A crew of rotating hosts has led the show since then. Jeremy Schaap, one of those hosts, will host the Saturday version of the show, which debuts in January.
A person at ESPN familiar with the situation said no jobs would be cut as a result of the change. OTL-branded segments also will appear throughout the day on “SportsCenter."

OTL moved to its daily format in 2003. In the past year, its team of reporters produced an investigation into Conrad Mainwaring, a track coach who was accused of molesting dozens of boys, and it recently broke the news that a Los Angeles Angels employee was talking to the Drug Enforcement Administration about the death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

There will now be less room for discussion of those kinds of stories each day on ESPN’s linear TV channel, though the network believes its new morning podcast, hosted by Mina Kimes, can be a daily platform for discussing social issues in sports and investigative work done by its journalists.

Chris Carter got canned from fox sports and screamin a blew a gasket on his cohost
Is there a report that he went off on his co-host. That shouldn't be a fire-able offense. Nick was kissing his ass from the time the shows starts until it ends.

STEPHEN A. SMITH REPORTEDLY SECURES $8 MILLION SALARY IN ESPN DEAL
by Cedric 'BIG CED' Thornton

According to The New York Post, sports commentator, Stephen A. Smith. has re-upped his contract to the tune of almost $8 million per year.

Smith and ESPN have agreed on a five-year deal worth nearly $8 million per year, which sets him up to become ESPN’s highest-paid on-air personality. This contract will surpass ESPN’s Get Up! host Mike Greenberg, who earns $6.5 million a year.
Smith, along with Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim, is a featured commentator on ESPN’s First Take weekdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, discussing and debating the sports topics of the day. He joined First Take permanently back in 2012. Smith appears on ESPN every day as a commentator on First Take and makes frequent appearances on SportsCenter where he is already hosting the show on Wednesdays, leading into NBA games.
The network is also reportedly trying to fit him in their ESPN+ subscription service while alleviating his duties on his ESPN Radio show next year.
The Omega Psi Phi member attended the Fashion Institute of Technology for one year, then he received a basketball scholarship to attend Winston-Salem State University, a historically black university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Smith began his career as a journalist in print media. He worked at Winston-Salem Journal, the Greensboro News and Record, New York Daily News, and The Philadelphia Inquirer before embarking to the radio and cable airwaves.

According to the ESPN site, “in September 2014, Smith began hosting the daily The Stephen A. Smith Show on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio. In January 2017, The Stephen A. Smith Show moved to ESPN’s SiriusXM channel and simulcast on ESPN’s owned and operated stations in New York (98.7FM) and Los Angeles (710AM), airing 1-3 p.m. In January 2018, the program expanded to the national ESPN Radio network and is available across ESPN Radio stations throughout the country. In August 2018, The Stephen A. Smith Show joined the ESPNEWS weekday ESPN Radio simulcast lineup. Smith also hosts several SportsCenter specials on ESPN throughout the year (since 2018).”
