Spielberg? Elton? No, the best-paid man in US entertainment is Tyler Perry

That sentence is such a load of bullshit. Where was the black image before Tyler Perry's first movie. What was it before his first play?

Everyday people are big upping gold tooth having no english speaking can't stay out of jail rappers and you have a problem with this?

Everyday in the newspapers we see another case of some innocent baby being killed by some corner standing can't read fucking up their own neighborhood keeping it real thug ass nigga,

So please explain what this positive image we had before Tyler Perry was ?

Each and everyday we hear that somebody who respects black women and takes care of their babies are simps and lames but you have a problem with this?

Dressing up as a woman is as old as movies yet you try to make it seem like this is what is wrong with our image?

So why isn't the white image bad since Patrick Swayze played a woman, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, Tony Curtis.

Was our image destroyed when Wesley Snipes, Flip Wilson, Martin Lawrence, The Wayans brothers, Jaime Foxx did it or were we good until Tyler Perry did it?

Best believe the image we have wasn't created by a movie. It damn sure wasn't built on a sitcom.

Why is Spike mad because he can't get financing for his shit but Tyler Perry finances his own? Maybe there is a lesson there. Spike always court side , can't he sell his ideas to the NBA millionaires ?

Nobody says you have to like the man. his movies, his sitcom or anything about him but don't try that weak ass shit of him damaging our image. We have already done that for the years before him and the years since him.

Right on, Every secure and proud and self-respecting black man should applaud him for his achievement.

Agreed. Daddy's Little Girls was decent. I give him that.
(Btw, Jumping the Broom was just mediocre, imo.)

But after 16 stage plays, 14 films and 2 tv series 'in the can'...

Even with his own 'production studio'... you really think Tyler Perry is gonna 'greenlight' tv shows...
- similar to 'ER'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Cheers'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'The X-Files'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Law & Order'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Moonlighting'... but with a black cast?
- or even an 'animated series'... but with a black cast / or black superheroes?

or you think he gonna 'greenlight' major Hollywood movies...
- similar to 'Star Wars'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'The Breakfast Club'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Back to the Future'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Jurassic Park'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'Bourne Identity'... but with a black cast?
- or something like 'The French Connection'... but with a black cast?

C'mon son. :smh:

Those types of movies & tv shows are not built on the "story of redemption, with a touch of gospel + comedy" formula. :smh:

Nah, when it comes to filmmaking and tv... that dude has ONE SINGLE lane... and he STAYS in it.

Plus, there's no black women getting (emotionally, or physically) abused in those types of scripts. :smh: So I don't see him changing lanes anytime soon.

He deviated for a hot second with Daddy's Little Girls, but it was still a movie "about redemption" at the end of the day. (So really he only 'swerved' passed 1 or 2 cars before heading back into his 'comfort lane', so to speak.)

In reality, I doubt he could make ANYTHING decent (on his own) that isn't a variation of Madea or 'Meet the Browns'.

Sheeeiiit.... even if he tried to do animation... it would prolly be called: Meet the 'Toons, or some shit.

So while you think his career is defined by 'being the only black director who can greenlight a project'... I think it is defined by being 'the only black director who can greenlight THE SAME projects, over & over'.

Hopefully I will live long enough to see another black man who accomplishes what Tyler has done... but with a much more robust body of work.

And he does it WITHOUT ever dressing in drag.

Just saying.

I see what you're saying..Kinda like when Spike Lee stepped out and did The Miracle of St.Anna. We see how much the hardcore spike fans supported that project. Spike lee biggest movie was when he "stepped out" and convinced Jodie Foster, and Clive Owen to play Inside Man. Tyler Perry was living in a car broke when he was 12 years old, and was able to rise to the top with hard work, and determination. I mean you gotta respect that.

I give major props to the Brotha on his success...but im not a fan.

He's a great hustla. He audience is mostly Black Women who spend lots of time in church praying for a good Man or Black Women who've been through BS with Black via their own poor judgment skills. He knows that the day that he takes off the dresses and gets rid of the stereotypical angry Black Man images and starts depicting the Black Man as being intelligent and strong in Hollywood then his career will be done.

A la Steve Harvey with his silly relationship books, Tyler exploits Black Women that cant control their emotions and looks at the world through rose colored glasses. Tyler fuels the religious BS & the twisted Black Female/White American psyches. Especially when it pertains to their perceptions of Black Men.

Take a good look at the list and keep in mind that Hollywood is ran by mostly Gays and Jews.

BTW...can anyone name me a strong Male image in entertainment, of any color, thats allowed to be that strong Alpha Male regularly on TV or film? And please dont post superhero's like BatMan or IronMan or some shit.

Hollywood is becoming the feminist movement part 2. Many elites in Hollywood diminish the Male image all while liberating the emotionally unstable Women long enough for her to go out and spend her money to escape reality.

I hear what you are saying, and I do agree with most of it. However Tyler Perry does not make up a good image for black women either. Most of the black women in his plays or movies, are either evil as hell, or dumber than a bag of asses. Not every black woman that goes to church is asking God for a husband. Some women go just because they feel some sort of connection with whatever higher power, as do some men. Hell I know hella dudes that go to church just to see some big asses. I really hate that some whites seem to look at black women as poor pitiful creatures need to be rescued by them (white folk) from the evil black man. No black women are like everyone else. Some make piss poor decisions in men. But so do white women. But being that black people are still fighting an up hill battle over our image, the image being that we are more prone to being violent, more sexual, just everything messed up in life, Perry is in a unique position put out better movies and a better message about our people. Will he do this now that he is so rich and powerful? Maybe but I doubt it. Too much money to be made doing and being the status quo.
