Spider-Man: Homecoming -(discussion thread)

Ehh don't tell em nothing... let them keep thinking a minute thirty ruins an hour and a half plus movie

:hithead:

i have yet to watch the trailers for this movie. but often trailers do ruin movies.

i am also someone that does not watch trailers or previews.

there are entire websites dedicated to the subject of trailers ruining movies.

They nailed Spiderman, movie was fire :dance:Would love to see Captain America team up with Spidey in the next movie.

I think that's where there headed. Downey Jr won't be in the sequel. So there most likely using Cap since Peter will probably become a Avenger after the infinity gauntlet film.

but I think we have to grade these things different

it was a DIFFERENT time and a DIFFERENT audience.

Based on the budget the audience and all that came before it?

X2 was a damn SOLID showing.

and some of the GREATEST directors EVER...

have said essentially a good movie IS just hitting those KEY moments like 3/4 times,
a great spectacle is made of hitting those key moments... but not a good movie
good story telling = good movie...
without a strong story to connect the moments you enter the Snyder/ Ewe Bol / Bay/ Singer 'verse of movies

as for special consideration because of budget and predecessors -
it wasn't a different time it wasn't a different audience -
all the XMen movies came after Matrix after Blade 1 and 2
the only difference was the studio execs were still ignoring the potential
and they would still be totally blind if Disney didn't buy into Marvel and shock H'wood with Avengers' box office
As it is they are still blind because outside of Marvel the only team to take character and story seriously so far was Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller - (WW is a decent hit but it wasn't made with serious intent nor a single vision... too many chefs, the first and most influential chef sucks at storytelling- And as fun as Logan is that was not a Wolverine story- I'll put money that was an existing script on the shelf that they inserted Xmen characters into)

It was great to see characters we grew up with, in the comics, on screen in live action - but that doesn't make the stories or movies good...

oh hold on hold on...

you gotta get deeper into this part.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Has A Star Trek Easter Egg

Audiences everywhere are flocking to Spider-Man: Homecoming, eager to see the many Easter eggs and Marvel Cinematic Universe teases the film has to offer. As some eagle-eyed fans have begun to notice, Homecoming also includes a very small homage to another popular property - Star Trek.

Spoilers incoming for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so if you haven't seen it yet, you've been warned.

Kirk Thatcher recently confirmed that he reprises his 'Punk On Bus' role from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in the Marvel Studios film. Thatcher, credited in Homecoming as 'Punk On Street', is featured in a scene early in the film, where Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is conversing with the owner of a hot dog stand. Thatcher stands in the background, dressed in homeless-looking attire, and holding a boom box on his shoulder.

Trek fans might remember Thatcher's memorable The Voyage Home cameo, in which he plays a boom box-wielding punk who gets Vulcan nerve pinched by Spock (Leonard Nimoy) after annoying him and Kirk (William Shatner) on the bus. You can watch the scene below.

Thatcher, who was an associate producer on the film, requested that he play the role, and even wrote the memorable 'I Hate You' song that his boombox is playing.

There's no indication of how exactly Thatcher ended up reprising his role in Homecoming, or what significance it is supposed to have on the scene itself. Nevertheless, it's an added homage for Trek fans - one of the many Easter eggs that might warrant a rewatch of the film.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is in theaters now!

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut inCaptain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero inSpider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhoodSpider-Man– but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast includesTom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, JacobBatalon, Laura Harrier,Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, andRobert Downey Jr.It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, and Hannibal Buress.

great moments don't equal a good story - watch it again and see if it holds up...

imo
x3 had deficit of good moments and a shit story
x2 subpar story carried by great moments
X1 had good moments and a kinda decent story

It part of my Xbox movie collection... I watched it just last week. I still love it.

Preach man.. when X2 came out people still viewed comicbook movies as a joke and Xmen 1 was critized for horrible dialogue and storyline. At that time X2 was as close as I was going to get to Xmen Animated...

It's like the first Spider-Man... it doesn't hold up as well but it will forever have a place in my heart.

Micheal Keaton is the best villain Marvel has casted. He was great in this film

Zendaya as MJ was nice twist (CACs want our women)

That spidey suit is iron man lite huh ?

Overall good entry for Spider-man into marvel... found myself bored at times

C +
Yeah, it had a few moments that were dragged out. The warehouse scene, the chase. Good movie though. But not in my top 5 marvel.

Marvel is really doing something epic here.

They are playing parts of the civil war story line in reverse.

I talked about it in the civil war comic's vs movie discussion. A key to the comic's was tony's enhancements to spideys suit we saw the beginnings in civil war, here and prolly get the ultimate in infinity war!

I don't think I saw any indication of a photography interest in the movie for Peter.
disagree...

the mini movie in the car with Happy and Tony to me might have been the modernization of Peter maybe wanting to be in film/documentary/news?

I think it will be a HOBBY but the modern version in the comics is focused on being a real scientist.

I like that angle.

Cause my daughter was IMMEDIATELY fascinated b the web shooter and his costume...

she asked me on the way home WHAT is an intern ship?

and shocked the daylights out of me when she told me she started memorizing the periodic table

cause Batgirl and Tony Stark did that in some series she is reading.

trailer did't reveal or spoil shit :smh:

matter fact this isn't even in the movie

giphy.gif

When i first saw this in the trailer i was thinking that IM and Spider-Man would be teaming up to fight Vulture and the Shocker(once he got a new suit)

so zendaya is going to be mary jane in future movies

Not likely since Sony now talking about a casting call for"a well-known SpiderMan character" to appear in the next few movies

Now it's being rumored Tom Holland trying to hit in real life..if so

It was a solid movie, cute is the word. This is the most kid friendly of the Marvel films for sure, did drag in some parts but overall entertaining. Enjoyed Tony Stark and Vulture. Big surprise they had Bokeem Woodbine in this, had not seen him in anything in years. Some critic said Zendaya was not hardly in this when she was in every other scene did this person see the same film? What was funny they did a good job of capturing the feel of high school, brought back a lot of memories. Anyway 3 and a half stars(***1/2).
