Ok, I was originally going to post this in the "Favourtie" albums thread, but because my post was going to be THIS big, I thought I'd star a whole new thread. I'm a song writer/guitarist/pianst. I'm just going to walk you through the albums that inspired me to star writing songs and to start playing instruments. If you are a musician too, please share your stories of each song. Whether they inspired you as a musician or just as a person. If there is a story behind each one, tell it.

Favorite songs: The Beautiful Ones, I Would Die 4 U, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy.

I remember my mother buying this album in mid eighties and I was just little kid rocking out to this music. When I heard Let's Go Crazy, I would literally spaz out during the solo. I became an air guitarist like a kid with ADD. My mother saw this and eventually brought me my first electric guitar. I remember spending hours on my bed trying to learn the solo and it took me a whole 6months to even play it half decently. LOL. But when I did master it, I became a Prince fan for life.

Favorite songs: Ecstasy, Black Cat, Spinning, Short Change.

Ok, while I was trying to play Prince's intricate rifts, I remember hearing the baselines from the Ecstasy albums. I swear I would hum the album bass lines all day in pre-school. This is one of my uncle's vinyls but I stole it from his house. I'm actually admitting this for the first time now. So while I was trying to play the guitar, I played the simple yet, funky bass riffs on my electric guitar. My mother wouldn't let me listen to the album at first because when she saw the front cover, she assumed it was porn, lol.

Favorite songs: It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World, Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, It's Magic.

Ok, to be honest, there's too many James Brown albums and songs to list but this was the first vinyl that introduced me to him. I remember playing "Papa's got a brand" new bag over and over. It was simple song to play on the guitar and it impressed the girls around my block when I used to sing and play it at the same time. Good times. R.I.P. The God Father of Soul.

Favorite songs: Give It To Me Baby, Super Freak, Mr Policeman, Fire And Desire.

Ok, this is a real funny story about how I discovered this album. My uncle (the same one I stole the "Ecstasy" album from) was babysitting me at his house. He made me sit downstairs because he had a female friend over. So I was downstairs and I heard "Give it to me baby" being played from upstairs. The bassline got me hooked and I had to find out who the artist was. So like a little naive kid, I ran into my uncle's bedroom where the music was coming from and saw him banging some white girl. He whooped my ass for not knocking. After he whooped my ass, I told him I'd tell if he didn't lend me the vinyl to Rick James' Street Songs I would tell my mama what I saw. (I know, I was a little bastard back then). I still bump this album on a reg and it's definitely one of my favs. I based most of my riffs as a kid off of this album.

Favorite Songs: The Thrill is Gone, Bow Legs, Kool is Back.

I remember jamming with this old blues player from my church as a kid. He was a saxophone player and a damn good one. While we were jamming one time, we decided to try and play along to "The Thrill Is Gone". This was like one of the first blues albums I tried learning from. This album was way too cool for school and it gave me my blues edge. This also inspired me to learn the piano/organ at the time.

Favorite songs: Bring It On Home, Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song.

Here's the deal. I had just turned thirteen and there was this fine yellow bone I was trying to fuck. Now I say yellowbone because her father was some white crazy rocker. So when I went over her house to hit that, I would bring my guitar to give the illusion to her dad that we were jamming. So we would play this Led Zeppelin album as loud as hell so he couldn't hear our groans and moans. But I remember getting distracted by this album because of how catchy it was. While I was hitting that chick, I was busy trying to break down the chord and riffs, and every now and again, I would literally jump out of the bed and try and play a few riffs. Every time I hear this album, it reminds me of those good times with that chick.

Master_Of_Puppets-Frontal.jpg

Favorite Songs: Master Of Puppets, Battery, Orion, Damage Inc.

Ok, so I wasn't really into metal back then. My mother only really played soul, funk, rnb and a few blues tracks now again. Remember that yellow bone chick who introduced me to Led Zeppelin? Well her father was a huge metal fan. He allowed me to borrow this album. I remember being blown the fuck away. The speed at which they played, the solo, the drumming. I would spend hours trying to play just 5seconds of the solos. This was a perfect album for me and that chick to fuck to because it was the loudest out of her whole collection.

Favorite Song: Diggin On You, Red Light Special, Take Our Time, Kick Your Game.

Ok, this was the one that got the females in the mood. In my teens, playing some of the tracks on here = guaranteed pussy. If you couldn't get none after playing some of these tracks, you might as well have cut your dick off. The solo in Red Light Special is fucking raw and is one of my favorites to play. This album also helped me improve my song writing.

Favorite Songs: All of them.

Ok, this was the album that got me hooked on rap. This is one of the few albums I would give 10/10. Forget how amazing the production was, the lyrics BLEW ME THE FUCK AWAY. Rakim's flow, charisma. Damn, I wore this tape out. I played it at least 3 times a day. Fuck what you heard, Rakim >>>>> You're favorite rapper. Period. So many niggas bite off of him today it's criminal. My cousin played this song in my house when it first came out. I didn't understand it back then and I hated. But a few years later, I was hooked on it. This album is pure perfection.

Favorite songs: It's Funky Enough, Mind Blowin' , Comm. Blues, No One Can Do It Better , No One Can Do It Better.

Ok, so I wasn't feeling Gangsta Rap back in those days, but this album got me hooked on it and I became a disciple of Dre's Production skills ever since. I can honestly say this is one of the few hiphop albums I can listen to from the beginning to the end without skipping one track. Amazing.

I'll post some more later... AND THIS IS NOT RIPPING OFF THE OTHER THREAD. This is just for songs/and albums that actually have stories behind them FOR YOU!

Please post the songs/albums that inspired you with a story behind it.

Your trying to get some trim from some yellow bone and let some white crazy rocker turns you onto Led Zeppelin and then Metallica. Guess you weren't receptive to the music your mom introduced you to like R&B, soul and funk, the music most blacks back in the day grooved to.

Makes me wonder how you made the transition back to the real side. :smh:

Come on man. The first genre I was introduced to was soul and funk. Didn't you read the thread? And being a guitarist, I had to expand my horizons otherwise I wouldn't be the versatile musician that I am today. And we all know rock came from blues/jazz, so there was no "transition" back to the "real side" as you call it.
