I'm not religious but if religion makes someone a better person, I'm all for it.

I know reformed drug addicts, whores, thieves etc that credit their God for it.

Religion is real to those who choose to believe and a personal decision.

I believe what he was saying is that God will abide in you and with you, IF YOU allow it. Not for YOU to be worshipped though because you cannot - should not - worship anything that is perishable like flesh. Only things that are eternal, like God. I'm not FOI, but that's what the man said.
