Basically, he's saying these levels motivate your behavior depending on whether or not lower needs on the hierarchy have been satisfied. He believed that lower level needs must be satisfied before the next-higher level can be met.

In so much as the pyramids were constructed from the base/ or bottom up, the human needs are satisfied in the same manner. It is not the HOLY GRAIL though.....There are a number of theories and theorists, with a number of followers. This is just one of them........

Another in a line of theories.....the key to any theory is how do you measure it and what are to tools that help support a theory. I use the word support because in research you never say prove (too finite), you only use your data to support (or discredit) a theory or hypothesis.....
