So talk to me about putting you hand over heart during national anthem.

Reverence for Military is not disrespected with not standing/holding heart. If anyone around you says it is ask them this question....Sing it!

Cuz if no hand on heart is disrespectful, how disrespectful is it to not even know all the words to the song your defending
 
Slightly off topic from the national anthem, but we (Americans) used to use a different gesture to "pledge allegiance" prior to World War II. The gesture we used to use was almost identical to the German Nazi's gesture to pledge their allegiance to Hitler. Because of the awkwardness associated with the gesture after it became synonymous with Nazism, the gesture was changed in December of 1942 to playing one's hand over his/her heart.
