I think the term "illegal" is kind of a slippery slope so I understand why some folks have reservations about it. It's not that far a leap from "illegal" to "cockroach". It's easier to dehumanize folks with language than we acknowledge sometimes. And once you dehumanize folks it's easier to enact bat-shit insane progroms (internment, genocide etc). People are people. Nothing more nothing less.

As far as the position I'm taking. I don't see it as being dictated by a knee-jerk response at all. It's a carefully thought out position. One that rejects the attempts folks are making to dismiss and marginalize an entire group of people who are simply eking out a living in a context that we all created. Governments and corporations created the conditions and we're all complicit in maintaining it because no one wants to pay the piper. The same way we're all complicit in the exploitation of people in Congo (think the minerals that make up our smartphone components), Bangladesh, China and all throughout the world because our "lifestyles" demand it.

Turning our rage onto "illegals" just seems utterly dishonest to me.
