For the first time. Wow, I experienced all types of emotions with this book. But what killed me was the brutality and casualty of the horrible things that occurred to some of the characters.
Another thing I noticed that although conditions in society have improved? Have they really? I mean we are still lumped into neighborhoods, we are still barred from other neighborhoods and even when we can afford them we are treated differently.
I was driving through an affluent neighborhood one time to visit a friend and cops pulled up next to me (on my left side at the light). I made a right turn and went about my business. A minute later they pull up behind me flashing they lights. I pull over and I asked why did they pull me over. Dude was like I didn't have my turn signal on. I called bullshit ... they couldn't see my passenger side blinkers if they was on my driver's side. Anyways, you get my point ... if I was white it wouldn't have been an issue.
Some of us still treat Y-T's kids better than we treat our own. Go to his neighborhood and hold our garbage until we see a garbage can. Yet, we will dump in our own hoods with no remorse. Bust shots for the sake of bussin' shots without a care.
Although I didn't like the way she skipped around, Toni does have a way of telling a story.
Thoughts?
