Agreed, moms set Alton up proper. She held resentment over him outing Franklin and chose her son over him.
As for the cane, to me it represented that he was going all in, stronger than ever now. He wanted ol' girl to know he wasn't down and anything else would result in her demise. If you pumped 5 in someone's back and they did that, wouldn't you just let it rest too?
