Skip & Shannon on Carmelo's idea of prospects attending historically black universities | UNDISPUTED

I'm all for this movement, but let's be serious. Carmelo had the opportunity to go to an HBCU and didn't.
It's easy to tell OTHERS what they should do, but are you willing to do it yourself or for your own kids?
While I agree with what you're saying.....I can't fault these guys for not knowing what to do when they are 18 years old. 20 years ago.....going Syracuse made sense for him. The knowledge he has now he didn't have 20 years ago and I don't recall anyone saying he should've went to a HBCU at the time. But I do agree....its easier to tell someone else to do this but let's see what they do with their own kids.

Nah, I don't give him (and others like him) a pass.
The same argument could be made for 18-year olds today.
They had as much knowledge back then as they do now.
I'm sure Carmelo was recruited by HBCUs, but he probably didn't give them the time of day and only considered the "big schools".

We'll see if he's really about that action when it comes time for his kids to go to school.

Yeah but who was gonna tell them that? MJ wasn't gonna say shit. Charles Barkley said he ain't a role model. AI wasn't gonna say shit and Kobe wasn't either back then.

The people they looked up to wasn't gonna say shit. These 18 year old nowadays got a bunch of people to give them advice. Like I said above 20 years ago nobody was giving them advice.

He and other high profile recruits had plenty of elders back then to advise them on the merits of attending an HBCU vs a PWI, didn't have to be just NBA players. Recruits haven't all of a sudden become "woke" in the last month. This same discussion has been ongoing for years.
Howard University is basically in the backyard of his hometown of Baltimore. I wonder if he even took a visit there.

Howard basketball team sucks though. And we know what Melo's objective was. Go to college for a year and then dip. Which is exactly what he did. Going to Howard or any HBCU you back then wouldn't have benefited him to achieve that goal. His performance in the Final Four was a big reason why he was considered one of the best prospects of that draft.

I'm not excusing it. I Just understand it.

I also understand at 18...you not trying to hear nothing from no old head. But you will listen to a young man that has achieved the goal you are trying to make. If Allen Iverson back then suggested this to Melo...he would've thought about it.

But who knows. What kid trying to listen to someone tell them to go to a HBCU when they didn't?

And let's keep it a buck, a big reason these recruits choose to go to PWIs is so they can get all that groupie white pussy on campus that they've always heard about. Ain't getting that experience at an HBCU.

I hate how they use our talent to enrich themselves and other cacs while disrespecting us. The players have the power to change this.
I think players are realizing this now.

Mel's from Bmore. He could've went to Morgan, Coppin...even Howard, Hampton, Del State, VA Union, etc. He instead chose to go to a school that has had some problems with Black students in the past (mind you, this is where Jim Brown and Dave Bing went).

I'll be impressed when he sends his kid to an HBCU. If Lebron sends his son to an HBCU (assuming that the high school-to-NBA restrictions aren't lifted by then), I'll be really impressed.

bron’s son will be a true barometer because I don’t think he will be good enough to jump straight from high school...this whole discussion reminds me of when Tariq Nasheed was out here shamin black folks for this and that and niggas found out his oldest daughter is out here fuckin CACs and buying Gucci purses with that Hidden Colors money lol

Yep. I'm fine with the message, just not the messanger.

Y'all do know whites started or heavily funded the start of all HBCUs. The Rockefeller and Carnegie foundations help all of them stay in business today. Some are even still named after those white people.
Carmelo as well as Shannon know this. They playing with y'all emotions.

And you also understand Rockefeller, Carnegie and J.P. Morgan racism, prejudice and public policies are the reason why we have an hbcu.

So if they causing the problem then act like they bringing the solution to that problem. Is that not playing with people's emotions?
