He and other high profile recruits had plenty of elders back then to advise them on the merits of attending an HBCU vs a PWI, didn't have to be just NBA players. Recruits haven't all of a sudden become "woke" in the last month. This same discussion has been ongoing for years.
Howard basketball team sucks though. And we know what Melo's objective was. Go to college for a year and then dip. Which is exactly what he did. Going to Howard or any HBCU you back then wouldn't have benefited him to achieve that goal. His performance in the Final Four was a big reason why he was considered one of the best prospects of that draft.
And let's keep it a buck, a big reason these recruits choose to go to PWIs is so they can get all that groupie white pussy on campus that they've always heard about. Ain't getting that experience at an HBCU.
