x50000 to the idiot that took the time to type this stupid fucking thread

Nas always takes forever to go plat. Illmatic took 10 years to go plat. He might have pushed plat with more radio friendly singles (Black Republican, Hustlers, Still Dreaming).

Nas doesn't have the same appeal for everybody. I recognize he has talent, but I can't relate to half the shit he is talking about because I don't live the life he is describing. I can recognize that he has a nice style and he has been in the game awhile, but there are a lot of people that can relate to Jeezy where I live. He is currently outselling Nas and he deserves the respect that he is earning. Hood Niggas like Jeezy because he is describing life as they see it. For the record I don't think Jeezy can rap, but I like his tracks and I would rather hear "go getta" when I am fucked up at a strip club with a chick popping her ass in my face instead of hearing Nas whine about the current state of rap. Just my .02

I feel you but how many niggas relate to Jeezy now? When the first album dropped a lot of cats could feel his hunger with this one I feel I like he took his foot off the pedal for a minute.

Question: How do cats feel about Nas in the South before and after the album dropped?

Man, little kids is coppin' that jeezy garbage... Rap is on that pre-school flow right now... . -Jeeeeeeaaahhh.. How corny is that?? But cats is lovin' it (brainwashed). You cant be over 21 and like that shit. If you are, then you fucked up in the game. But truthfully, its the beats THEN the rapper running the show right now.. these record corps make sure their weak ass artist stay with the bangin' beats!! C'mon man, Boot camp's "the last stand" and both Sean Price albums (Monkey Bars/Jesus Price, Superstar) are BANGIN'!! Mainstream is using our own music against us!! Wake tha fuck up!!

huh?

I gotta disagree with this, man. He's the most abstract MC you guys got in the south.

He can give you every kind of delivery you want. I just ain't feeling the singing shit he does, but I don't believe he's every dropped a whack verse.

dont get me started i can go on and on and on wit one liners like that lets see how far them shits get him in a few years if jeezy dont invest in a ghost writer he wont see longevity i mean luv the first album but his second album was the same thing no new ground breaking shit on it.......................

just the same ol shit as his first album bet Jeezy 3rd album go double wood if he dont change up his style a lil bit

See Nas grows with the times and can speak on current events and also is a very good story teller and he can drop the once in awhile club banger he just a well rounded artist Jeezy hmmmmmmmmmmmmm lets just say if it aint about trapping then jeezy dont have shit to talk about to one dimenensional
which isnt good for any artist

and aint that nicca from Macon i heard some one say north carolina

BUT LET'S NOT FORGET, HE BIT THAT OVERSTAND SHIT FROM STYLES P. YOUNG SLEEZY AIN'T EVEN ORIGINAL. U CAN ONLY COMPARE HIM TO RAPPERS IN THE SOUTH, THAT'S IT.

Try to tell Nas (or any major artist) that record sales don't mean anything. They care quite a bit (and it does matter how many people are interested enough in you to buy your album).

The question was simply about quantity and not quality. All the defensive "save-a-Nas" folks jumped the gun.

what si the point of this thread then? it seems to eb that he is implying that because jeezy went platinum that his is a better album. I mean explain the purpose if everyone is "jumping the gun". Point blank jeezy is garbage, and many like him are trash Ricks Ross, Lil wayne, styles, jada, etc. because they say the same shit all the time.

I saw someone say he dont wanna hear Nas rap about stuff he can see on CNN? but you wanna hear jeezy talk about shit you see on the local news all the time then? doesn't make any sense.

Jeezy is a mush mouthed bitch that has never once
said anything worth repeating. Nothing informative
besides the price of shit he owns.

Fuck that clown and the clown culture that follows
him. Niggas that refuse to grow. That shit is pure
garbage.

Thats not HIP HOP.......Thats HIP-POP and it does
sound the same if you say it fast but there is a huge
difference.

Hip hop is hard to find......Hip Pop has multi mill
marketing behind it.

Hip POP is watered down for the mainstream.

And you will also notice there is no real promotion
behind an artist who is saying anything conducive
to black growth. They put a stop to all that shit
quick by banning Public Enemy and promoting
NWA. "JEEZY" is ANOTHER part of the "cover-up".

JEEZY is used to keep mass amounts of niggas
on some dumb shit . Pay attention these devils
are slick. They used niggas to catch niggas in
Africa. Cause they got tired of getting their
ankles broke by niggas.

Yes the "head fake", "torso twist" stutter

Remember that son.

I agree wit ya there every since dat elevator joint Dre has been a lyrical GOD!!! Sometimes he goes off in the singing stuff and I'm like WTF the first time I hear it then I'm like ooooook the second time and hardly never listen to it again and say this cat took his talent (MAKING MUSIC) put it out there for somebody, somewhere to feel it and truly didnt care about sales.

Does lack of sales make you a bad one?

Not necessarily.

Little Brother and Camp Lo (to name a few) are talented-ass ni99as. Always puttin' out hot shit, gets overlooked. Not 'cause it's bad but look at the majority of hip-POP posin' as hip-hop. Lackin' in rap/rhyme skills and same-ol' clap-clap percussions.

Most of the time, it's not really the subject matter. Prime example, Camp Lo. Cars, hoes, money, parties, 7-0 life, etc. BUT the way they use metaphors, similes and allegories is fuckin' unbelievable. Cats STILL ain't ready for that shit, and the Camp's been out for 12 years.

It's the masses that accept the majority of the shit and the record companies see that and realize it sells, even if it is LAME SHIT MOST OF THE TIME.

Money talks and the art suffers.

Like Phonte of Little Brother said "It's so much better being your own opening act."

Just because you think someone is "garbage" doesn't mean everyone else does (or should). The question was about the relative popularity of the two artists' albums. You can draw your own conclusions from the comparative sales figures.

Obviously, Jeezy appeals more to under-20 year-old CD buyers, who make up the majority of such purchasers. Those in the 20-40 age range don't buy CDs as much anymore and are more likely to be computer savvy. Nas' audience just isn't gonna ever buy as many albums as the biggest "pop" rapper's audience will. So? Both provide what their audiences want.

Nas is living off the fame of his first cd, everything he has put out after that has been garbage. Honestly you can say that record sales do determine a artists talent as far as the consumer goes (which is what a artist is counting on to put money in his pocket). For Jeezy to have gone platinum the consumer has to feel that he is "talented". If they felt he didn't they wouldn't be buying his music. I'm quite sure Trap or Die sold a million copies so with this cd that would make 3 platinum albums that Jeezy has put out, no way in hell a no talent ass nigga could do that

Young Jeezy as odd as it sound is a sex symbol now. Hoes like young go getters and strip clubs and clubs play the shit out of his album thats why he sells

This would have sounded real nice if you knew what you were talking about. I worked on both projects. Jeezy didnt have half the promotion dollars Nas had. From what it looked it like it was probably about a million.

Nas has a 3 album 10 million dollar deal. Nas album alone had 3 million in PRE RELEASE promotion spent on it, and thats a fact my man.

I hate these plastic ass rappers...what happened to the "snap" dudes?

Computers computin...bopity boopin

The money is in sellout commercial rap...white folks can find an identity in that...go to jeezy concert...and all the people who bought his album will be there...white folks

Nas is for US, when he says "Hip-Hop is dead", WE know exactly what he's talking about...because we grew up with this stuff and we know how it was, and how it is now...

Same people who buy black star & common, are the same folks who pick up Nas, if Nas makes another "you owe me" song BAM...but nowadayz that would contradict what he's sayin

Sounds nice...too bad you have no idea what you are talking about. In fact watch Trap or Die or the DVD of his first album.....There are no white people in the crowd. I hate when cats justify a brothers success by "Nobody but whites buy it"...Dog Im a Nas fan have you EVER been to a Nas concert? You said the same people who buy Nas buy Mos Def...and they're all WHITE. Stop being fooled by this bullshit. Black people dont buy albums either way..

To be honest the most successful artist are those that get BOTH to go buy albums and Jeezy does that. Jeezy and Jay are the only 2 artists I seen last year where black males were actually out in stores buying that shit, not the bootleg.

Cant really say thats true because they base that got Jeezy his record deal was over 20.

As I said before, Jeezy will never be as gifted lyrically as Nas but Jeezy is a solid business man (platinum says enough to me). Nas is really not relevant to most cats under 25 in the South (I'm 30 ). To be honest with you I don't want to hear that shit either most of the time. Most of the shit I listen to is southern based or tupac or biggie and comes from 1992-2000 because that music expressed what I was seeing happen daily when I was growing up. I help coach 14-15 year olds basketball and I have never heard them talk about Nas or play his music on an ipod. They were clowning the shit he did with his dad. Nas comes off as an older cat that is always trying to preach to niggas in their mind and nobody wants to be preached to all the time. For the record, I don't have either one of their albums.

South supports their own music. Nas is fortunate to have so many steady buyers, considering his base. The only thing that pisses me off is when people say "nas is teaching blah blah.." I tell people this all the time. If you actually listen to any record to be taught something, your educational system has failed you greatly.

100% truth !!! Jeezy has the strip clubs on lock !!! T.I. blew up off of "Dope Boys in the trap" and "Do it" at the strip clubs. I have done quite a bit of research :D

I can agree with that, but I think that Nas does come off as the nigga that is always trying to impart knowledge on cats most of the time. I may get a catchy hook or a nice line from a rap, but I have never studied what these cats think in the quest for knowledge.

if only it were that easy

These aren't the Greatest rappers of all time just greatest rappers at that moment.

if fisty scent dont take off his shirt and baby oil down on the first video for Before I self destruct he won't sell like his last joint. but 50 cent is a bachelor so hoes still going to fuck with him.

If Nas wasn't married and that nigga would of took off his shirt for Hip Hop is dead video he would of out sold jigga flatout.

What i am trying to get at if you cant convince little girls to buy your record you lost. I come from a era that if your girl like a song then the song is wack flatout.

eminem is going to sell because he's white and down with Dre. But on the same flip of the coin he will never be in your top 5 maybe not your top 10 artist because he is white.

Nelly, He is a sex symbol, that is why he ditch ashanti or put their relationship on the back burner because that is not good for sales.

Jim jones is married but guess what his shit is non existent so hoes will fuck with jones.
I know what people are going to say what about Jay-z and Beyonce. but jay and beyonce aint married. Bitches have that what if factor with jay.

how is this even a topic

I am not sayin that since 13 year old girls buys Jeezys shit that he is better that NaS, all I am sayin that HHID should of been the top seller but since he doesn't connect with that demographic he loses in the soundscan age

Don't get it twist I bought HHID twice but NaS fans or demographic dont buy CD's they will just dl off the internet. I was said that HHID was DL over 500,000 off the internet.

How many Diehard nas fans bought HHID

Don't be silly. "13-year-old girls" don't buy rap albums (unless it's Disney stuff). Teenage and young adult boys are the ones who do (both black and white).

When its all said and done, people know who is nice on the mic, who's entertaining, who tell's great stories, who spits real shit, who spits that thug shit and so on. Whether we all like it are not, these different types of rap exist because there are different types of niggas. Everybody don't do nas, but they know he can rap. Everybody don't do Jeezy, but they know he's that 'street nigga'. Everybody don't do Bustah Rhymes, but they know he that wild nigga. Everybody don't do Twista, but they know he that nigga thats gonna tear a remix up. Everybody don't do Diddy, but they know he can put a damn song together and you may not like him but that shit is gonna be so catchy, you aint gonna be able to get it out your head. The point is, there is a place for everyone but because people are trying to eat off of this rappin and people aint sellin and makin the money of the next nigga, there is a problem. It shouldn't be seen that way, because truthfully, without that outlet of rapping and entertaining.... niggas wouldn't have shit. So you aint gotta like a nigga's rap style or his music, but you gotta respect the fact that they are doing that as opposed to the fucked up shit they could be out there actually doing.

You taking the shit a lil far. It aint all about your bachelor status or taking your shirt off. Last time Nas took his off, bravehearts flopped.

Anyway, NOBODY in this thread compared Nas to Jeezy. Im sure when you started the thread that you were simply saying it in comparison to how when the albums dropped there was a lil controversy. What I dont get is this: When Nas outsold Jeezys first week, it was cool to mention Jeezy with Nas.

Bottom line is the disparity in the sales says one thing to me: Support. Say what you want but Im sure the ATL, and south cats on the board in general will vouch for this....Jeezy has major support in the south. His base buys music. The demographic that buys southern music aint the same for a southern artist. In the south men buy albums. Cats support one another. Bootlegging isnt celebrated like it is here. There arent 30 Africans and 15 mixtape shops per block.
