This list contains the highest earning topics in a descending order. First one is the higher earning topic while the last ones are also good but needs more views to get as much income as the first ones. However, videos that require more number of views usually achieve that view count more easily.

1. Credit card reviews
Reviews of best credit card with explanations on how they excel and why one should buy it. Make sure that the video wont feel like an advertisement. Mention advantages and disadvantages alike.

2. Mortgage/loan related videos
Settling loans is not an easy thing. So people look for loans with lowest financial burden and ideas to close their loans. Videos that help for that are ranked among highest paying because advertisements of loans are displayed along with them which are paying you ultimately.

3. Insurance
People are worried about their future. So they invest in insurance plans. Some plans are mandatory for some situations like automobile insurance. Insurance companies are among the highest profit reaping businesses. They share good amounts of money in advertising and there you get your share.

4. Stock trading
Stock trading advice and similar financial advice are absolutely essential among investors. They regularly watch your videos and become subscribers if worthy enough. Moreover, money is the commodity here and so advertisements are always costly here. That cost indirectly falls into your pocket as well.

5. Engineering projects
Engineering projects of all kind are required by engineers across the globe. You can add paid subscription or adsense to monetise the content. Ads earn you lot of money because of advertisements related with suppliers of engineering products.

6. Web hosting reviews
Web hosting is a very profitable business. That is why it has a lot of competition. Service quality of good firms have reached its optimum. So, to increase business all they can do is to advertise heavily. Hope the rest is understood.

7. Health products
I know that this title is too broad and generic. It covers everything from fitness, weight loss, body building, diseases, curing, palliative care, yoga, physiotherapy etc. But I purposefully added all under one roof because all of these sub-topics are good in earning a lot of ads revenue.

8. Automobiles review
A man will buy only a few cars in his lifetime, mostly one or two. Choosing a car that offers comfort, performance, status, low maintenance costs etc. is not an easy task. So they watch video reviews for getting expert advice. Here you go. Video reviews of cars, motorbikes, other automobiles, its parts and accessories earn a lot of revenue. Make arrangements with dealerships to get test drives and video-shoots required for your videos.

9. Electronic gadget reviews
Electronic gadgets are really cheap to make, once a prototype is made. A high end mobile phone with cost just 20-30$ in manufacturing. That is why we see emerging gadget companies every now and then. Gadget review videos usually get a lot of views and also good revenue.

10. SEO, online marketing, blogging guides
Entrepreneurship being a celebrated topic nowadays, is in its earning stage. Videos explaining these topics are viewed by many. Also, a lot many tools and products are out there for sale, shelling out money for advertisement. They pay you via adsense.

11. Tutorial courses
Tutorial courses on a large number of topics are available in Youtube. The number grows every day exponentially. You also have a chance to teach something. Apart from earning money, you earn fame and a good fan base based on your performance and knowledge. Courses can be on any good topics like teaching languages, using computer applications, preparing for a particular exam, using a specific equipment etc.

Lowest earning video topics
As we see high earning topics, there are videos which are viewed by many but earn only in pennies. Here is a list of such videos.

  10. Street food reviews
  11. DIY projects, crafts
  12. News
  13. Working of mechanical equipment
  14. Common recipes
12 Best Types of YouTube Content To Succeed at Growing a YouTube Channel
Some of its statistics are quite staggering:

  1. Total number of people who use YouTube - 1,325,000,000
  2. Hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute - 300 hours
  3. Number of videos viewed on YouTube every day - 4,950,000,000
  4. Average number of mobile YouTube videos per day - 1,000,000,000
Google commissioned a survey in 2016 to understand what the latest viewing trends on YouTube were. Some highlights of the survey were:

  1. 6 out of 10 people prefer online video platforms to live TV
  2. In an average month, 8 out of 10 18-49-yer-olds watch YouTube
  3. On mobile alone, YouTube reaches more 18-49-year-olds than any broadcast or cable tv network
In 2017 Google turned their attention to people watching YouTube on their televisions sets. Highlights from this study include:

  1. The time people spend watching YouTube on a tv has doubled in a year
  2. 2 out of 3 YouTube viewers say they watch YouTube on a tv screen
  3. Just like tv content, watching YouTube on tv screens peaks around prime time
  4. Watch time of YouTube on TVs peaks at the weekend
So, with so much time spent watching YouTube, on a wide variety of devices, what types of content are people watching? It turns out that people watch a wide variety of things actually, which is probably reflective of the fact that YouTube viewers now span the whole spectrum of ages and types of people.

Of course, to many people, YouTube has one purpose only – it’s an easy way to watch music videos. And music videos can’t be ignored - there are so many of them! According to the Wikipedia List of Most Viewed YouTube Videos, "See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth has had an incredible 2.916 billion views, and has recently overtaken the long-time King of YouTube, "Gangnam Style" to be the leader. In fact, music videos take up 77 out of the 80 videos in this top list.

But there is much more to YouTube than simply music videos. From an influencer marketing point of view, official music videos offer little opportunity for influencer promotion. There are many other types of videos giving better opportunities for marketers, however.

  1. Funny Animals
It is impossible to avoid seeing funny animals on the internet - Facebook feeds, in particular, seem at times to be full of the critters. People just love seeing cute animals, particularly when they are doing something out of the ordinary - videos of cats sleeping aren't the rage this year!

YouTube also has its fair share of funny animal channels, some depicting videos of real animals pigging the limelight, others - like Simons Cat - being animated.

There are also, of course, numerous serious animal channels, including National Geographic videos featuring the renowned David Attenborough.

  1. Video Game Walkthroughs
We may have deliberately excluded the ubiquitous music video from this roundup, but we couldn’t exclude this category of video, despite it being where number 1 influencer, PewDiePie rules the roost.

Young males (the most common type of gamer) were the first type of people to embrace YouTube, so it should be no surprise that there are thousands of channels related to video gaming. Minecraft alone is popular enough to have a website devoted to listing over 1,000 top Minecraft YouTube channels.

A common type of gaming video is a walkthrough, where somebody plays a game, commentating as they progress through the game. One of the reasons for Minecraft’s popularity (despite its old-time graphics) is that the game is easily moddable, and the filmmakers make use of this feature in their videos, where they often play as modded characters.

There can be huge engagement between gaming video makers and their supporters and there can even be live play sessions.

  1. How To Guides and Tutorials
There are three types of learning style: visual (by seeing), auditory (by hearing) and kinesthetic (by doing). Everybody learns using a combination of these styles, but most people find one of the methods easier than the others. Good teachers try to use a mixture of all three methods in their classrooms.

While it will always be hard to teach kinesthetically in a video, it is the perfect medium for those who love both visual and auditory learning experiences. A well-structured video, that encourages you to work alongside the presentation, can even be useful to the more kinesthetically-inclined.

There are so many How To videos on YouTube, that you are likely to find something to help you do virtually anything you can think of.

These videos have an advantage in that they are almost timeless - the only reason that a video would date is that the activity itself changes or goes out of date.

  1. Product Reviews
There is a clear trend, nowadays, for people to turn to the internet when they are considering making a purchase. They want to discover what other people think about products that interest them.

YouTube is no different from other social media channel in this sense. People flock to the channels of those they trust to see what they think about various products they have reviewed.

Polls have regularly shown that consumers are more likely to make a purchase if they see a positive review online.

It obviously depends on the product, but YouTube is the perfect medium for many products. People find it so much easier to relate to a review if they can physically see the product being used, whether it is makeup being applied, a car being test driven, or the latest kitchen gadget being put to use.

  1. Celebrity Gossip Videos
People having an interest in celebrity gossip isn’t exactly new - newspaper tabloids have thrived on this for years, and indeed there are whole cable television channels focused around this topic.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that people come to YouTube to keep up-to-date with their celebrity gossip fix. Many of these videos do still seem like they are straight out of the tabloids, of course, and you certainly can’t believe everything that you see and hear in these videos.

Probably the best-known celebrity gossip YouTube channel is an offshoot of the TMZ celebrity news website.

  1. Vlogs
A blog, actually short for weblog but most people have forgotten that nowadays, started off as a web-based log of what a person did each day - a form of Internet-based diary. Of course, blogs have diversified since then, but you will still find bright and breezy people happily writing about their daily breakfast and what they managed to achieve the day before.

Vlogs are video blogs, and the idea is, to some extent, the same as what the original blog was. They are effectively a video equivalent of your old diary.

Of course, being on YouTube they are somewhat more public than a diary hidden under the bed, so the content is usually more engaging.

Like a diary, vlogs use unscripted dialog and generally come across as an authentic look into the video maker’s mind. They often focus on a specific topic.

Vlogs are often the YouTube equivalent of reality television. You get a chance to see into the life (or at least as much as they are prepared to share) of the vlogger. Just as reality television can generate some scarily high viewing numbers, quite a few vlogs channels have a considerable number of followers.

  1. Comedy / Sketch Videos
Quite a few people make comedy and sketch videos to keep their audiences amused. Of course, sense of humor is quite personal, but there are so many comedy videos online that you are sure to find somebody who matches your style.

These comedy videos are among some of the most shared, often finding their way onto Facebook and other social media. This is one of the most likely types to go viral.

Some of the YouTube comedy channels generate audiences greater than many network comedy television shows.

  1. Shopping Sprees / Hauls
Many women, in particular, enjoy watching people going on shopping sprees for things they can only imagine themselves buying. You may not be able to go to high-end shoe shopping yourself and buy a dozen pairs of brand-name shoes, but you may enjoy watching somebody else do that.

Shopping spree videos, more traditionally known as haul videos, focus on people out shopping for particular products. The most common of these types of videos tend to be in the beauty, fashion and lifestyle channels.

These videos give a clear opportunity for brands wanting to engage in influencer marketing, as long as the products being purchased match the types of products that the channel viewers love and yearn for.

https://www.youtube.com/zoella

  1. Unboxing Videos
Unboxing videos are very much a 21st Century phenomenon. A surprisingly large number of people like to watch somebody else take a new product out of a box!

These are extensions of both shopping spree/haul videos and product review videos - in reality, they fit somewhere in between the process of purchasing a product and the act of using and reviewing the product.

In some ways the love for these videos can be paralleled by a child’s love of Christmas morning - half the fun is unwrapping the presents and seeing what is inside. It is the same for unboxing videos, as the viewer is given the opportunity to join in with the anticipation of seeing for the first time the contents of the package.

As with both haul videos and reviews, unboxing videos can have a huge impact on consumer buying decisions and can be very lucrative for brands. This is another area with huge potential for influencer marketing.

  1. Educational Videos
We’ve separated out educational videos from How To’s here, although How To guides obviously educate as well. The two categories are big enough to stand apart.

There are a few large channels, like the TED and National Geographic ones, that belong to large official organizations and share these organizations’ material. Indeed, there are many other businesses, large and small, that share educational videos on their sites.

A second type of educational video channel focuses on providing educational videos for young children and school students.

They try to provide thought-provoking and interesting videos for their young target audiences.

This is another category which can be considered evergreen, in that many of these videos get new audiences year after year, and often receive repeat visits. They only “die” if their educational value goes out-of-date.

  1. Parodies
Although a specialist type of comedy video, parodies are popular enough to count as a separate type of YouTube video.

There are quite a few parody video channels - some more successful and talented than others. Some of the best make parodies of music videos, often making quite a professional looking job.

In some ways these are the hardest type of video to make - there can be such a fine line between a successful well-written and performed parody and one that fails to connect with its audience.

https://www.youtube.com/user/barelypolitical

https://www.youtube.com/user/BartBaKer

  1. Pranks
A decade ago Johnny Knoxville made his name with Jackass - which in many ways was the forerunner to all of the YouTube prank videos. They are certainly amongst the most shared videos, not just on YouTube but on Facebook and other social media platforms too.

These videos feature practical jokes on friends, family and unwitting members of the public. While it may not always be the most comfortable type of video for the participants to make, these videos are definitely a way to make social media stars of people.

There are quite a few series of videos where people play pranks on each other, only for that person to gain their revenge in the next video. There are even series of prank videos featuring husbands and wives.

Some of these pranks can be quite controversial, so any brand wanting to be connected to a prank channel, had better ensure that their company values, and those of the pranksters, make a good match.

See YouTube as a facilitator to make money, not a monetizing platform.
It’s easy to get started, simply use Google’s Creator Playbook. But it’s more challenging what you do with it afterwards.

If you want to start a journey on YouTube, do not see it as a monetizing platform, rather, view it as a catalyst to further your income source. Here are some ways on how to make money on YouTube:

1. Use YouTube to get traffic to your website and blog.
If you’ve got a website or blog which brings in income, you need traffic.

Many websites were hard-hit by Google’s Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird updates. If this happened to you, you’re hurting. You can use YouTube to not only regain traffic, but also increase it.

Get started with the Creator Playbook. Once you’re set up, consider repurposing some older content into videos, as well as creating new videos. Make sure that you link to your own website in the first line of your video descriptions, so you can funnel your YouTube traffic to where you want it to go.

The School of Life is an example of getting traffic from YouTube to their own blog.

2. Create products and promote them on YouTube.
If you’re creating your own products or would like to, YouTube offers unlimited ways for you to promote your products and make sales. Products you can create include ebooks, apps, art, and music.

Create your products, and add them to a shopping cart. Then use YouTube to promote them. Add a link to your product in your video’s description, so that viewers can buy.

3. Sell others’ products as an affiliate marketer.
“Affiliate marketing” means selling products in exchange for a commission. Hundreds of thousands of companies offer attractive deals to affiliate marketers who promote their products, including huge companies, like Amazon and eBay, as well as smaller companies.

Additionally, there are many affiliate networks you can join. These networks include ClickBank, Commission Junction, and ShareASale.com.

Amazon’s affiliate program

To make money from YouTube as an affiliate marketer, review your affiliate products on video, or create “how to use this product” tutorials. Don’t forget to link to your products in your YouTube descriptions – make sure you’re using your affiliate link, or you won’t get credit for sales.

How Fulfilled Are You In Your Life?
If you want to stop struggling and live life to the fullest, Lifehack has a solution for you.
Take the Full Life Assessment

4. Create a Web TV series.
Love telling stories? YouTube lets you create your own Web TV shows. You’re limited only by your imagination… and your budget.

You can create a comedy series, a drama series, or your own talk show. Be aware that YouTube limits your show’s length to 15 minutes. To upload longer videos, you’ll need to increase your limit.

If you’re a frustrated TV or screen writer, get a few friends together, and record your own TV shows. You never know. If you get lots of views, you may develop a new career.

Smarter Every Day is a web TV series example

5. Become a YouTube personality.
YouTube stars can make a lot of money.[3] PewDiePie, despite having lost major advertisement recently, remains number 1 of the highest-paid YouTube stars with $15 million in 2016. It was estimated that he could receive over $13,000 for a week of publications.

If you’ve got quirky ideas, or are passionate about your interests, develop your YouTube channel. You never know, you may be the next YouTube star.

PewDiePie is famous for doing game review

6. Monetize your videos with the YouTube Partner Program.
After you’ve created several videos, it’s time to join the YouTube Partner Program. All you need to do is enable your channel for monetization, and you’ll receive your share of the income from advertising on YouTube.

Just as the YouTube stars do, you’ll get paid for each thousand views on your videos. Click this link to get started – your first step is to verify your channel.

7. Teach: share your knowledge with tutorials.
Tutorials are huge on YouTube. If you know how to do something, you can teach others, and make money from your videos. Beauty videos are popular. Michelle Phan, for example has over 1.3 million views.

Michelle Phan is famous for doing online makeup tutorials.

8. Test-market your products.
YouTube is an amazing resource for market research – you can soon discover whether your brilliant, innovative idea is likely to be profitable.

For example, if you’ve got an idea for a product, but need funding, create some videos before you create a Kickstarter.com campaign. The views and comments on your videos will tell you whether your idea is viable in its present form. The YouTube audience can even help you to make it viable, so that your efforts to get funding are successful.

9. Become an expert on metadata: use keywords to get an audience.
One hundred HOURS of video are uploaded to YouTube every MINUTE.[4] This means that there’s a huge competition for attention. You need to do everything you can to ensure that your videos get found. Your videos’ meta data will help.

“Meta data” is data which gives information about your videos. In its Creator Playbook, YouTube tells you how to create your meta data:

To maximize your presence in search, promotion, suggested videos and ad-serving, make sure your metadata is well optimized – your video’s title, tags and description

Optimizing your videos for search makes the difference between success and failure, so be sure to do it.

10. Build your brand using YouTube.
As marketing guru Tom Peters pointed out way back in 1997, you’re a brand, and you have power.[5] YouTube helps you to amplify YOU.

Whatever you’re doing, and whatever your job, YouTube can help you to become known for your strengths, and make money. Even if you have no clear idea on how you could make money on YouTube, get started creating videos about your interests.

You may just stumble across a gold mine… just as the people who turned their pets into stars have done.

11. Turn your child or pet into a star (and make money).
Two cats, Lil Bub and Grumpy Cat, started out on YouTube, and have become worldwide stars, with book deals.[6]

Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub

As Forbes points out,[7]
“You do not have to be a singer to become a YouTube star. If you are lucky, you could shoot a video of your child, pet, or a double rainbow that strikes a chord and goes viral.”
So keep your video camera handy. If you see something cute, video it, and upload the video. (Don’t forget the meta data.) You never know who or what will be the next video sensation. Create that sensation, and you’ll make money. So there you have it – eleven creative ways you can make money on YouTube.

12. Scheduled videos
It would be much more easy for viewer to catch your content if you publish it in a specific timeframe in a regular basis. It might also make them more tending to following your channel, which is to subscribe to you.

It is crucial to have base audience which would always come for your content so that you can ensure your number of views for each video. This also is ensuring a steady amount of income.

13. Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding is becoming more and more common with the introduction of Kickstarter and Indiegogo. It could be a great source of money if you have a great idea for a media project on YouTube. Not only does it generate your initial fund, it also contributes to establish audience and revenue for your project in the future.

For example, famous YouTube channel Corridor Digital uses Patreon as a way to fund their videos or movie projects, with return of special perks for these supporters.

YouTube Channel Corridor Digital

14. Seek sponsorship
Lots of company nowadays provide sponsorship to YouTube channels for direct advertisement. A common source would be Audible from Amazon which frequently sponsor knowledge-giving show such as Vsauce and Veritasium. The good thing about it is that you can directly receive the sponsored amount rather than splitting it with YouTube.

To reach for a sponsorship you might need to work on a detail proposal about the things you are able to provide. Make sure you know well about your audience and the brand you are approaching.

What Is the Video Production Process?
Shoot with editing in mind. This means planning multiple takes and checking settings (e.g., focus) and equipment before shooting a scene.
There are a myriad of ways to come up with video ideas — you can even pay people to guide you through the process. If you don’t have the budget for that, however, here are a few techniques and tips that can aid in the ideation process:
  • Create a Story with Emotion: Emotion drives engagement, even in ads. So, look for a story or narrative that will pull on the heartstrings.
  • Be Authentic and Original: Stories resonate better when they are true and unique.
  • Use Freelancers: Outside people will bring new ideas.
Think about the Format: Different themes and ideas work better in a specific format:
  • Commentary: includes vlogs and conspiracy videos, is the top overall type of YouTube content.
  • Product reviews: include unboxing videos, come in second only to commentary as the top type of YouTube content.
  • How-Tos and tutorials
  • Top lists: include haul, favorites/best of, collection, and compilation videos, are the fourth-most popular type of content on YouTube.
  • Comedy: which includes skit, prank, and parody videos, is the fifth-most popular type of content on YouTube.
  • Challenges, which include meme videos, are the sixth-most popular type of content on YouTube.
  • Reactions are the seventh-most popular type of content on YouTube.
  • Q&A
  • Interview
  • Docuseries
  • Educational
  • Music Videos
  • Narratives
  • Explainer
  • Gaming
  • ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response
  • Sports

Video Production Strategy
  • What is the goal of the video?
  • How does the video relate to the company's strategy?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What is the video format?
  • Where will you distribute the video?
  • How will you measure success and ROI?
Determine High-Level Goals for the Video
  • What are the objectives of the video?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What is the core message/concept?
  • Why are you making this video?
Finalize the Script
Once the above decisions are made, more detailed determinations have to be made to ensure that the video will appeal to the target audience, meet the stated objectives, and communicate the core message.
This all begins with a script. When working on a script, you’ll want to do the following:
  • Choose a story.
  • Determine the length of the script (and therefore, the length of the video).
  • Write and revise the script (this includes creating characters).
  • Clarify the message, adapt objectives, and refine the target audience (if needed).
  • Write a shooting script (the scenes in the order they will be filmed).
  • Do a script breakdown (analysis of the script in which all production elements are tuned into lists of actions to perform and items to procure).
  • Create a storyboard.
Video Post-Production
Once shooting is complete, editors will add the final touches to the video. (Although we mentioned promoting and distributing earlier, they are beyond the scope of this article.) You will do the following in post-production:
  • Edit video footage
  • Mix audio
  • Correct color
  • Add graphics and special effects
  • Add transitions
  • Add brand assets (company logos, etc.)
  • Add narration/voiceover
  • Add music
  • Promotion and distribution

How to Make Money on YouTube
1) Create a Themed Channel and Outsource it
One of the ways that my wife and I discovered to make money on YouTube is to make, what I call, a “themed” channel.

When people think of having a YouTube channel, they picture themselves as a full-fledged video creator in front of a camera recording and editing videos until their eyes bleed.

But the idea here is really similar to what I do with websites, and it’s quite an interesting business model.

Basically, you create a channel full of videos around a specific topic or theme and, as those videos rank on YouTube or get recommended by the algorithm, you make passive income.

The best part is you don’t record any of the videos yourself. Instead, you incorporate content from others that you’re legally allowed to use or follow copyright laws to develop content that is high-quality and interesting to viewers.

Keep in mind, YouTube is the second largest search engine and continues to grow year after year. That’s why we got on this trend in 2020, we think it’s set to explode.

I’d love to say that I came up with this myself, but that’s not true. I found out about this whole business model through a guy named Matt Par. He hosts a webinar on this whole concept that you can attend by clicking here.

A few things to know:

  • Matt makes over $30,000/month with this method (He shows proof of income in the course he sells)
  • Matt is a young guy and looks like he could be the friend of your son or daughter. But…don’t be fooled by his age. His methods actually do work and his course is solid.
  • In my opinion, Matt is a bit pushy with his sales tactics, but I’m sure he does it for one simple reason, it works. If you can overlook the sales tactics, his course is actually very good and full of value.
  • You can join a webinar to better understand this whole thing by clicking here.
My wife and I started doing this ourselves with two channels and I can say with 100% certainty that this does work and it’s showing promising results.

Below is our first channel that we’ve created using this method.

I don’t even mind sharing this channel with you because it’s all in Portuguese (my wife speaks it fluently), and the revenue per 1,000 views (EPM) is very low because of the market (primarily serves people in Brazil, not the USA).

The channel name is Diva Makeup and the focus of the videos is makeup compilations.

This was the first channel where we decided to try his methods and they actually worked for us, so we decided to go after a more lucrative United States market. We don’t upload new videos on this channel anymore because the EPM is too low.

Our second channel is one where we converted an old YouTube account she had in the USA market.

I can’t share the name of this channel with you because I don’t want more competition. But obviously, this shows that the methods work.

This model gets really interested when you start outsourcing the whole process. While it seems daunting, it really isn’t all that complicated. To create a successful video you need to:

  • Use VidIQ or TubeBuddy to complete keyword research to find a topic
  • Research to find footage or images
  • Editing to create the content
  • A script and a voiceover
  • Someone to post the video and optimize the videos for SEO
To sum it up, this is a valid business model and one that I think isn’t very saturated as the idea hasn’t gone mainstream yet.

For anyone thinking this may be a good idea, I suggest you check out his webinar to fully understand it.

2) YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
This is among the most effective ways to earn more money on YouTube.

All you need to do is become a YouTube partner and run ads before (or during) videos on your channel. For a lot of YouTubers, this has proven to be a very lucrative source of income.

The minimum eligibility requirements to join the YouTube partner program are simple:

  • Your channel needs to have at least 4,000 watch hours of video in the past 12 months before you can apply to monetize your videos.
  • You also need to have over 1,000 subscribers to your channel.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age before you can apply to join YouTube’s partner program.
There’s no specified timeframe in which to meet these requirements, and once you successfully achieve them, you’ll be able to begin earning from the different YouTube monetization features on your channel.

The less controversial you make your videos, the more likely it is that YouTube advertisers are going to be comfortable running their ads on them. You can find out more about how to become a certified YouTube Partner here.

Youtube typically pays 55% of the ad revenue to the publisher and keeps the other 45%. On average, you can expect to make between $3-$5 per 1,000 views (EPM) on your videos. You also can make money from people who are subscribed to YouTube premium if your video is watched, but typically you’ll make more with the ads themselves.

Keep in mind that different industries pay different amounts, and it’s all based on advertiser demand and the Cost Per Mille (CPM) or Cost Per Click (CPC) that the advertisers will pay. That’s something you will have to consider when opting for this revenue-sharing method.

For instance, a channel focused on software tutorials would likely have a higher EPM than a channel about funny moments caught on camera.

The reason? A Software tutorial channel will have software companies competing against each other with ads to win over customers, while a funny moments channel will have very generalized advertising with no commercial intent.

How to Maximize Earnings With YouTube Ad Revenue

  • Manually insert ads when possible: I do this when I have a cliffhanger of sorts. Meaning, I start a sentence and then play the ad in the middle of the sentence because the user REALLY wants to hear the rest of it. An example, “The thing that you absolutely must know about affiliate marketing is”….(ad)……the rest of the statement. I’ve found this approach will keep you users engaged enough to finish through the ad instead of clicking off the video.
  • Keep your channel advertiser-friendly: In your videos, don’t swear or say really controversial things that advertisers don’t want to be a part of. Remember, you make money when advertisers advertise. Advertiser-friendly content is extremely important to achieve this goal.
  • Make as many videos as possible: YouTube is ultimately a numbers game and the number of views is the most important factor to success. People don’t like to hear it, but it’s 100% true. The more videos you post, the more likely you are to succeed because of the number of video views that your channel will get.
  • For most of the big YouTubers out there, advertising revenue is the most passive way to make money. But it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to monetizing YouTube.
3) Affiliate Marketing
You may not always be able to rely on video ads for revenue generation on YouTube. The good news is that there are other monetization methods to choose from – such as affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is an excellent idea if you have an affinity with followers. Large marketing agencies don’t depend entirely on their channels of content distribution. Often, they find it more profitable to pay YouTube channels that already have a strong fan base to promote their products.

That’s why affiliate marketing is a great way to boost your earning potential on this platform if you’ve already built a large following. However, even with a smaller number of followers, you can still make a good living on this platform – provided you use an effective marketing strategy.

To make use of this YouTube monetization technique, sign up with companies or affiliate programs in your niche to get affiliate links for products that your audience might want. You can then recommend these products on your channel and get paid a commission for every resulting sale.

A straightforward way to get sales is by linking to the affiliate products in your video descriptions. The higher your conversions, the more money you’ll make.

Here is an excellent example of how Graham Stephen, a successful creator on YouTube, makes an income with Amazon affiliate links to camera and recording equipment. He has a link below his video descriptions which takes the viewer to this page:

As you can see, whenever someone clicks on one of those Amazon products and purchases something, he’ll make a small commission. But these small commissions add up. The most recent video he did about his income indicated that he made around $2000/month from these little affiliate links under his videos.

But it doesn’t have to stop with physical products. If you go to a platform like ShareaSale, there are many products and software you can promote to make extra money.

How to Maximize Earnings With YouTube Affiliate Marketing

  • Use VidIQ or TubeBuddy to complete keyword research to find a topic
  • Leave affiliate marketing links in the description of videos
  • Pin the first comment with affiliate links
  • Refer to affiliate links in videos
  • Add YouTube cards in your video pointing to affiliate links
Note: It’s important to note that disclosure is required if you want to make money through affiliate marketing on YouTube. This is simply a formal statement explaining to your readers that you have an affiliate relationship with the manufacturers of the products that you talk about in your digital content. If you are in the U.S., you can follow the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) guidelines on how to craft a clear disclaimer. For creators in the U.K., follow the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) guidelines.

4) Review Products or Software
Affiliate marketing doesn’t just have to be for physical products. You can use it for any type of products you like. For instance, you can do software or product reviews on your channel for various companies in your niche and earn money from brands seeking exposure and sales.

I have done this on my YouTube channel. This is a review on Instacart, a fantastic grocery delivery and pickup service that helps you save money and time.

This tactic works exceptionally well because it can be very helpful for your followers – provided, of course, that it’s a good market fit. You get paid, your viewers get useful information, and the brand gets more exposure – everyone wins.

How to Maximize Earnings With Reviews on YouTube
  • Use VidIQ or TubeBuddy to complete keyword research to find a topic
  • Include a link in the pinned comment and video description
  • Use YouTube cards when it makes sense with links pointing to the affiliate offer
  • Refer to your links and disclose how people clicking on them will help you (people want to help creators usually)
5) Create and Sell a Course
Yet another awesome way to earn money on YouTube is to create and sell a digital course. If you have the knowledge to share and can offer great value to your followers, they will gladly buy your course to learn more about how you can help them improve their lives.

You can teach on a wide range of topics, including fitness and health, personal development, digital marketing, and professional or curriculum courses.

There are lots of creators doing this successfully, including Meet Kevin, a well-known entrepreneur who runs a 7-figure business. He heavily uses his videos on YouTube to drive viewers toward his online training programs that teach people how to invest and make money in real estate.

How does he do this?

He adds his courses in his video descriptions with a strong call to action to help drive viewers into action so they purchase his courses.

This is a great way to make money on this platform, but in order to be successful selling courses, you have to be able to create high-quality, useful, and unique content that offers immense value to your viewers.

After all, no one will want to purchase a course if the information contained in it is just a rehashing of what everyone else has already said.

How to Maximize Earnings With Courses on YouTube
  • Put course links in your video descriptions
  • Refer to the course in videos once in a while (Don’t be too pushy)
  • Use YouTube cards sometimes to push people to your course (But not too much)
  • Use the best online course platform for your situation and experience level.

6) Use YouTube to Build a Blog
YouTube is great for building your brand if you want to create fans, drive lots of conversions, and increase your business revenue. As the second-largest search engine, this platform offers immense opportunities to get your brand in front of your ideal audience.

You can use it as an additional tool to reach followers if you’re already active on other social platforms, or in conjunction with a blog that you currently run.

A blog will almost always outearn a YouTube channel because it’s a platform that allows you to connect with your audience on a deeper and more personal level, such as through email, and so on.

I use YouTube to grow my personal brand.

After I shoot a new YouTube video, I transcribe my videos over to my blog and format them as blog posts. I also bring my YouTube subscribers consistently to my website to grow my overall brand.

This has helped me grow my email list and resulted in thousands of dollars that I’ve earned in course or affiliate sales. If you want to learn how to start a blog to use in tandem with your YouTube channel, you can take my free IGNITION course here.

Over 90% of consumers say that they discover new brands on YouTube, which is all the more reason for you to get started building a name for yourself on this platform.

How to Maximize Earnings Building a Brand With YouTube
  • Push YouTube subscribers and viewers to your website and capture emails
  • Use emails to build trust and pitch affiliate products or courses/products of your own
  • Create courses/products that your audience wants and sell to them
7) Work with Sponsorships
Working with sponsorships is a great way to boost your earnings on YouTube. As your audience and viewership grow, brands will approach you to create videos on their behalf with product placements. Most brands pay extremely well for quality videos that help them achieve their business objectives and influencer marketing seems to be growing in popularity.

I have done this myself and made $500 on one video with this monetization method.

If you want to use sponsorships as a means of adding to your income on YouTube, it’s important to note that some niches have a lot more placements than others. That is, you’ll find tons more opportunities in industries like makeup and beauty than you would in many other industries.

The trick to success in this area is to use your channel as a platform to showcase your skill and expertise for potential contractors. This indirect monetization strategy is highly effective and involves advertising yourself with the goal of eventually being hired for paid opportunities to create videos for brands.

Direct promotion of this kind is basically like affiliate marketing, but with a slight difference.

The advertising companies pay you a fixed amount to collaborate with your YouTube channel. The amount you charge varies, and it depends on the quality of your videos, as well as your popularity.

Remember, sponsored content, or “sponcon” is advertising, so you need to be transparent about it on your YouTube channel. Make sure you adhere to all of Google’s Ad Policies in order to avoid possible issues with your account, such as suspension, or even termination.

Follow the FTC and ASA guidelines to make sure that your audience is aware that you are advertising to them. Use YouTube’s disclosure feature to add transparency in order to not only avoid legal issues but also build a stronger relationship with your viewers.

How to Maximize Earnings With Sponsorships on YouTube

  • Focus on quality videos that are thorough and helpful
  • Create unpaid reviews first; this will attract competition
  • Negotiate when contacted and ask for 50% upfront to protect yourself
  • Request additional products along with payment
8) Sell Services
Selling services like masterminds, group consulting, etc. to your followers is another effective way to leverage your channel into paid opportunities. Although this type of monetization can be slow initially, once you hit critical mass, it can be very lucrative.

For example, if you had a YouTube channel focused on retail arbitrage, you could create a service helping others by reviewing their accounts and helping them be successful.

In addition to making loads of money selling your services, you will also be able to develop a strong community around the services you offer. This is similar to how you can make money on Reddit as well. Simply offer or perform a service for someone, and they’ll pay you for your work.

Service promotions work great whether you’re a freelancer, small business, or e-commerce shop. All you need to do is upload video content related to your brand and use a compelling call to action to get viewers to try out your services.

How to Maximize Earnings by Selling Services on YouTube

  • Sell group consulting and calls
  • Price yourself high
  • Offer pre-packaged services and limit clients for premier pricing
9) Sell Products with Live Streams
Another way to make money from your channel is to sell products on YouTube live streams. This monetization strategy works particularly well in popular niches like beauty and fashion. The idea here is to sell products en masse to a live streaming audience.

To make this even more profitable, you might consider creating your own products and offers that you can sell to your avid viewers. You can create a digital course, an ebook, or anything else that your audience would appreciate. Or, you can use the live streams to sell products on Etsy or Poshmark if you have a shop of your own.

Alternatively, if you already have a business outside of YouTube, then you can use the channel to drive leads to your products.

The key to successfully selling products with a live stream is to develop a strong sense of trust among your followers. The more they trust you, the more likely they are to pull out their credit card to purchase your products. Once you have your product ready to sell, you can use a tool like Gumroad to accept payments during your live streams.

Here is an example of someone who is doing extremely well with this type of YouTube monetization strategy.

Moriah uses live streams to sell her products and wears her merch in promotional content to create hype for her new collection.

How to Maximize Earnings by Selling Products on YouTube Live Streams

  • Offer exclusive products
  • Create your products for a higher profit margin
  • Have these types of streams consistently
  • Offer samples of your products as a promotional technique
  • Use limited-time promo codes
10) Sell Merch to Subscribers
One of the easiest ways to make money on YouTube is to sell merchandise, such as t-shirts, to your followers. This is because YouTube has built a section just for it called a merchandise shelf.

As a YouTube creator, you must have a large enough following before you can expect to make any real money with this strategy, but you can start small and gradually build-up to the level where you’re making a consistent income from your merch sales.

To give you an idea of the potential revenue you can earn from selling merch to subscribers, here are two YouTubers who are doing this successfully:

Report of the Week
This channel makes an estimated $3.1K every month just from sales of merchandise. Branded merchandise like this is a massive industry, and you can get your share of it by selling your merch to loyal fans of your channel which will gladly spend their money to support their favorite YouTube creator.

PewDiePie
Another YouTube Star who is successfully making an income from selling merch is PewDiePie, whose recent merchandise launch sold out in just minutes, snapped up by his dedicated base of 105 million subscribers.

Though he mostly got big playing video games, now his merchandise sales are estimated to bring in a cool $6.83 million every year. If you have successfully branded yourself and gained a lot of loyal fans, this is a great monetization strategy because people who love your work will gladly buy your merchandise.

How to Maximize Earnings by Selling Merch on YouTube

  • Have a large number of subscribers
  • Know your subscriber demographics – do they want merch?
  • Create a tagline
  • Price it reasonably
  • Use limited edition merch
11) Live Streams and Superchat
Superchat is another great way to make money with YouTube’s video platform. It’s the feature that replaced youTube’s “Fan Funding” in 2017. As a YouTube Partner, this feature is available to you while you live stream.

Superchat makes your viewers’ comments more visible. They are highlighted and pinned in a prominent place in the live chat stream for a specific period of time, depending on how much they pay.

Subscribers to your YouTube channel can donate in Superchat on live streams, or they can pay a monthly fee and become members of your channel. In exchange, they’ll get custom badges and emojis that make them stand out during your live sessions. They also get access to your members-only exclusives, such as live chats with you.

This monetization method is facilitated through YouTube’s Partner Program and there are a lot of creators who are successfully using it to promote their brands and channels. To make the most of this money-making technique, you will have to build out a YouTube promotion strategy that will convince your viewers to become members.

In a way, it’s almost as if you’re selling ads within your live chat feeds. With live streams and Superchat, you will rely on fans for income, but you will also be able to grow a strong community.

To sell channel memberships to your audience, you must be over 18 years of age, and you need to have at least 30,000 subscribers.

Getting your fans to pay you directly is a great way to make money on YouTube if you already have a strong loyal following. Fans love to show their appreciation by whipping out their credit cards, and you will have a reliable income stream just by continuing to provide value on your channel.

Just make sure that you make it as easy as possible for them to donate. If the process of giving you money is lengthy or hard, even your most dedicated followers are likely to give up before completing it.

How to Maximize Earnings With Live Streams and Superchat on YouTube

  • Encourage your viewers to become channel members
  • Explain how Superchat and becoming a member works (not many people understand it)
  • Promote your channel or personal brand during live chat feed
12) License Viral Content to the Media
Another way to earn from your videos on YouTube is to license viral content to the media. Media outlets are always on the lookout for high-quality content, and whenever videos go viral, they want a copy to replay for their respective audiences.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be only viral videos that you share with them. You can also share timely footage that they deem newsworthy, and many companies will pay you for using your video.

So, if you have any successful videos that media outlets might want to use on their websites, then make sure they are easy to find by including a business email in a prominent place on your channel profile, as well as in video descriptions. This will make it easy for companies that want your video to contact you.

You can also submit your videos to sites like Jukin Media.

Lots of popular media networks like FOX, CNN, NBC, CBS, and The Weather Channel use this site to find video content for their websites. Here you will find plenty of opportunities for licensing your content to the media so you can add to your YouTube revenue stream.

How to Maximize Earnings With Licensing on YouTube

  • Include a business email in channel profile and video descriptions for licensing purposes
  • Sign up with Jukin Media and other video sites
  • Highlight the most successful content on your channel
13) Use Patreon with YouTube
Patreon is a popular online platform that offers artists and creators a place to easily share their work with paying audiences, or “Patrons”. As a YouTube creator, you can use Patreon to leverage the power of your audience and make more money with your YouTube videos.

You can monetize your work by creating a Patreon account and then releasing exclusive content or perks for your Patrons. Patreon works in almost the same way that YouTube Memberships does, except that you can set your own prices and decide precisely how you want to charge for your content. It’s really a platform that has a focus on crowdfunding and so long as you have an engaged audience, it can be a very viable method to increase revenue.

You can choose to be paid either a fixed monthly payment in exchange for offering access to exclusive content on the platform, or you can charge Patrons on a per-post basis.

One YouTube channel, The East Fam, features Shawn Johnson, a former Olympic gymnast, and offers tiers of Patreon memberships that range from just $2/month for ad-free videos, all the way to $100/month which includes personalized merchandise, as well as a credit as a producer.

William “Suede” DuFresneis is another example of a YouTube creator who is making a healthy income from his subscribers through this platform. Although he has a relatively small audience, he manages to monetize his videos well by providing high-quality content that keeps his audience engaged.

The secret to success on Patreon is to keep your audience motivated. The emphasis on this platform is on the community, and Suede keeps his viewers coming back for more by producing consistent quality and using his personality and good communication to persuade viewers to purchase his products.

How to Maximize Earnings With Patreon and YouTube

  • Make sure exclusive content goes on Patreon
  • Do your best to push people toward the platform
  • Regularly ask for input to keep your subscribers engaged
  • Offer tiers of Patreon memberships
