Should we shut down the US Postal Service?

The post office is funded by themselves with postage they will grow and shrink by demand. If people email they will shrink. If people lose jobs oh well thats why when you pick a career you pick one you can forsee being needed till you die. Like a barber, will always be needed for haircuts or a doctor. But sooner or later regular letter mail will be gone.

C'mon, this is the mail we're talking about. Who foresaw that? The typewriter manufacturers? The stationary shop? The mail, bruh? The cable company?

In the future, when Mr. Scott transportation goes commercial, then what? Blame those bimbo airline attendants for thinking they had a future?

I feel you 100% but most postal workers got that job without a college degree. They entered the workforce with out a back up plan. They said we are going to be content with this being our only source of income so as far as a worker goes I dont feel bad. My mom and dad have both worked for the post office for over 25 years, but even then they knew they would need to start generating income from other places because of where its headed so they started buying little houses to rent out. They got about 6 now. Any man that generates all his income from one source and they dont own that business is only waiting to come to the day where he is laid off. In a world where technology is evolving so fast you have to keep up. If anyone knew how big email was going to be first it was the postal workers. This shit didnt happen yesterday they been declining since aol came out with "You Got Mail" they just didnt do anything about it. But i feel you so sad for them losing jobs and all. That would suck.

We need to shut down the boarders. Or at least put up 180,000 volt electric fence 40 feet tall all around the border. Complete with automatic machine guns mounted every30 feet and land mines placed every 10 feet.

And post a Boarder Patrol Agent or state trooper in every hospital ER. The illegal would only get medical treatment for a life threatening issue. Otherwise, no room at the inn for you Paco. 100 billion a year would instantly saved.

Some folks don't realize for years the post office was a great place for vets to get hired and get back on their feet.

If the US Postal Service is a private business like they claim they are.. if they don't know how to operate their business, maybe the need shut the fuck down. Someone else will fill that void if its still needed.

Then what are the poor people that depend on USPS going to do?

They shouldn't shut down, but maybe scale back proportionally to the increase use of email, fax, and eCommerce.

They also could probably save a lot by putting a mini post office inside of retail space like Walmart or Costco and close down branches owned and maintained by the USPS.

sit down somewhere akhbar :smh: this is not a conversation for uninformed jesus sandal wearin kneegroes. stop by payless or grab an App from the iStore then come back when you have some decent footwear and a well thought out response.

here the problem is there are the impoverished who will suffer? how will they get their bills and checks? Most of them aren't familiar enough with banks and checking accounts so you can't expect them to pay bills online. Western Union would make a killing but no one would be able to mail anything at all. how would magazines be delivered? I don't own a tablet nor foresee being able to afford one and the required service that will run even more out of my pockets and I'm in a decent position.

I have to concur with this. lol no one could have foreseen the internet and smartphones in this fashion. hell you were the shit in the early 90's for having a cordless.

hey since you're so well informed I'd like to know, if we all owned our own businesses who would provide in the service industries?

nigga you never heard of a mailbox/dropbox? those branches you're talking about are management and distribution points and NO logistically it would not make sense to do away with them. did you ever think of the logistics of WHY those places exist or are you just ranting? and what happens when power goes down or something catastrophic happens with the internet. do you think information will stop needing to be disseminated or do you think there will be an even GREATER need to have a postal service? point being, careful what you wish for.

Like they said about the big banks, the USPS is too big to fail...sort of. There isn't a business that can deliver letter mail, flats, and small parcels over such a vast area like the Post Office. I do think that they will eventually have to shut down the "Star Routes", which deliver to Anytown, USA pop. 462. They'd be better off using kiosks in retail spaces. People have to get groceries and supplies, they can pick up their mail then.

I didn't say anything about doing away with the main post office, I said branches. Most small cities like mine have a central/main post office. Privatize the branches similar to what UPS does. It works for them. I also didn't say to do away with the post office, I said scale it down.

'nigga' you read into what I said and found shit that wasn't there.
You're either are a overly sensitive letter carrier who's worrying about loosing his job or consider yourself one of the BGOL 'professors' who likes to hear them self yap and show everyone how fucking clever you are.

My brother.:yes::yes::yes:

The problem is thinking the Postal Service should make a profit. It shouldn't be expected to just like other government agencies, like the Defense Department or Commerce Department aren't expected to. It should be funded just the way they are, i.e, whatever it costs to deliver the mail so be it. :hmm:

if you shut down the postal services how are will we get packages

im expecting some cables from amazon on monday

ups cost too much
