No pass given.
I never saw the movie....blah blah blah blah
its a shame this has to be explained to dumb niggas every couple of years
shit, they even have an argument in the movie about them choosing to do blackface instead of hiring a black actor
damn our culture stupid as fuck
Did it require him to be in black face? They couldn’t choose another way to express the method actors methodology? You think they really thought it out like that or did they just want to use black face and found a clever way to avoid any controversy?
some of these comments make me cringe...its like, "you dont really believe that, do you"

Lol. Obviously not.cmon bruh....you better than that
Bro, you do know that Jason ain't Blacc right? Home is Mexican and just wants to be down...stop trying to explain shit to that Wettback...he won't get it.The point was that Hollywood often hires white actors for roles that are focused on people of color (Gods of Egypt for example), they took that and exaggerated it to a really high level, which is where the comedy comes from. Downey Jr was playing an Australian method actor that is playing a black southerner...it's the ultimate exaggeration of studio heads that don't believe that a black actor can draw an audience.
I know it's been discussed over the years. I just figured I post this because Downey addresses it directly and it's the 10th anniversary of the film.i think we ask this question every couple yrs n even post a few clips to go with it ...
the answer is still yes ....its comedy n the shit was funny

they would of never had a black method actor playing a jew... Or a method actor playing a fag... Like I said he got an Oscar nomination for it that shows them fag jews in Hollywood thoroughly enjoyed that role for why a racist would love that role... We did a blackface without it being a blackface in the movie where people will accept it brilliant give him a nominationI get that. Why not an Asian? I just don’t see them creating this with what you stated in mind.
Where any black writers associated with this project? I searched but couldn’t find any. Just Ben Stillers and his buddies.

The day of the geechie is over! White or black.
In the context of the character is was appropriate
Hey, wait a fucking minute. I say jive turkey all the goddamn time...I'm trying to bring that shit backCause he was an actor playing a black dude in a movie...The comedy of it was he was a hardcore actor that would take on challenging roles man!
If he would have been jumping around like a monkey or saying stupid ass stereotypical shit like "Jive turkey" or "yessa massa' then it would have been blackface.
Good luckHey, wait a fucking minute. I say jive turkey all the goddamn time...I'm trying to bring that shit back
i think 90% of the people tht disapproves never seen the movie ...lol
All blackface is offensive to one degree or another. But this wasn't actually blackface per se. In context, it wasn't the worst I've seen and I'm pretty sure RDJ is not known as a racist.
Pass? No, but no censure either. We have to be careful about the hidden messages in these types of things. I don't think it was approached with a racist intent but ANY stereotype, comedic or not, should be frowned upon and rejected. Enough of this shit. I'm tired of Black people being the but of jokes.
Thanks to this beautiful thing called the internet every marvel movie I've seen was for free right on this thing called laptopThe same "woke" people who ask this asinine question are the same people who were 1st in line to see these films starring RDJ.
And clearly, the success of these films prove that audiences (of ALL races) have long since moved passed any bullshit "perceived" issues with RDJ in Tropic Thunder.
It's amazing.
12 years later, and these silly, fake ass "woke" people are still asking this stupid fucking question....
Which also proves my point. Thanks to this beautiful thing called the internet every marvel movie I've seen was for free right on this thing called laptop
Or tablet.. Man I love the internet
50 yr history... Millions of comic books published... Various tv shows for the past several decades... A decade long run movie series... 7.6 billion possible consumers... Released worldwide... When you add all those factors up no wonder it did so good... People were fans of the characters..not saying downey didn't do a good job in most films but he was in a role that had an already built fanbase... Hell a wack movie juss made a billion about some loser in a clown mask... They just so happened to say it was an untold story of 1 of the most notorious villain in comic book history and people ran out to see it... Take away the connection to the comic book world that s hit is lucky to be a Netflix film at best...the power of comic books and built in cult following... You juss proved how big the comic book world isWhich also proves my point.
At the time of their release, ALL of those films were the most pirated/downloaded films online as well.
And in spite of the internet piracy, those movies still went on to be the highest grossing films of the year. (In the case of Endgame, the highest grossing film of ALL TIME).
