Really, first high ranking officials that were black were republican administrations. The projects were set up to destroy the black family and they were pushed by democrats. The DNC conspired to prevent Obama from becoming president which is why he did an end around on them. Democrats pushed abortion rights which reduces the number of blacks while the Catholic Church which is mostly democrats bans its members from having abortions. The Republican Party is prejudice and self serving. The Democratic Party is exactly the same except they pretend to love you until voting is over and they want you in your projects while they Zone there kids into great schools. Go up North to the democratic strongholds. Most low key racist I every seen.

Finally started gutting projects. Removed the confederate flag over Carolina and Georgia that was put up by democrats. Stopped racist anti gun policy’s that were targeting black gun ownership. Highest number of conservatives switched and voted for the first black president when his own party tried to sabatoge him.

Bill Clinton’s crime and welfare bills that decimated the black community. Pushed Nancy Polosi to a leadership position that a brother been waiting on for decades. Condi Rice, like most others, was a well vetted, safe Negro. Her ties to being a Republican surely go back to the Pre-Civil Rights Era. She was highly intelligent and very talented and props to the GOP for putting her in that position, but she was no threat to anyone's power. She didn't display such ambition.

It was the VOTING RIGHTS Act that he extended. He was staunchly opposed to the Civil Rights Acts because they had been "humiliating to the South."
What replaced the projects? Take Cabrini Green and Robert Taylor Homes in Chicago. I flushed out a concentrated area of gang members and criminal activity into the whole of the Community and scattered dysfunction all over the place. It served only to gentrify the lands that the projects were sitting on.
California was never a part of the Confederacy and did not fly a Confederate flag. They banned the flag from being displayed or sold on State owned property in 2014 by Gov Jerry Brown (D). The flag was not the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia aka Stars and Bars that we're well acquainted with either.

As far as Conservative crossover to elect Obama, I'd imagine that they were just Right of Center and found him to be an appealing candidate. Being War weary and in the midst of a recession played heavily into it, I'm sure.

California is one state, the northern states all have racist anti gun laws. In the southern republican strongholds no such laws exist.
No party is perfect but non arethe savior of black people.
