You just said fuck the YouTube clip huh?
Uh. No. Nowhere in that interview did Charlie even hint at the premise that he wouldn't go to the NFL if he wasn't drafted in the first round.
Dan asked him directly did he choose basketball over <strike>basketball</strike> football. He said an affirmative NO. He said he wanted to stay committed to his basketball teammates by finishing the season. He said he did everything except hit the combine. Charlie stated it was the scouts who assumed that because he didn't quit playing basketball he had no interest in the NFL.
=====
Dan: You were going to play professionally basketball, not football?
Charlie: No. I didn't quit basketball my senior in college, because I was senior guard and I wanted to be committed to my teammates. God honored that commitment by giving me an opportunity to play in the NBA. But, I did everything outside of going to the combine for the NFL.
Dan: But, do you think that you scared away the NFL scouts by, they thought you were a basketball player?
Charlie: Ah, yes. That was their interpretation of me not quitting to go and start working out for the combine and what have you. I wanted to leave my options open, and God honored my opportunity to have my options open and I'm grateful that the NY Knicks gave me an opportunity.
Dan: But, you didn't push it with football. You didn't even get drafted.
Charlie: No, I didn't get drafted. I was called for the fifth round by the KC Chiefs. I just told them I couldn't guarantee I could go to camp if I got drafted in the NBA.
