Russ Westbrook traded to the Rockets for CP3

He's owed over $120 million

that still counts against the salary cap

Nobody is paying that to go away

Mosgov didn't get waived until his last year and he was only owed $16 mil a year

If he is able to lock in a contract at 18 mil per over three years with a contender, him taking a buyout for $69 mil makes sense. Still gets his 123 mil and OKC only has to pay 10 mil over 7 years while stockpiling on talented rookie on small contracts so that 10 mil doesn't put them in cap trouble

Call me crazy but golden state may go get chris for russell and someone else. I don't think this shit is over.

Like Complex said no team is taking that type of hit to a cap just to get rid of CP3. You can still get something good for Paul if you flip him again.

Yea he got like 4 years left on a max deal. Gonna have to trade him again. No way he is happy with this move.

They say Russ and Harden were both pushing for the reunion.

D'Antoni is the one who needs to figure out how to make it work because there's only one basketball.

can they flip him again so fast tho...or do they have to wait for a certain amount of time to pass?*

Dude, seriously. That shit doesn't make sense.

Who is giving up that much money?

First no team is signing him for three years. You saw all of these deals were for one and two years.

And the owner is going to pay a player $70 mil who is still a decent player to not play for them?

and the 40 mil a year still counts against their cap and doesn't allow them to get players.

Consider it from all sides. Rich owners don't want to do that, and this owner doesn't want to pay the luxury tax...which is why they're are shedding salary. Them getting rid of Grant just saved them over $20 mil in luxury tax money.

There is probably some minimum timeframe but he for sure can be traded before the trade deadline around All star break

Are you sure that 40 mil still effects OKC's cap if Paul signs another contract?

Is $10 mil a year that much of a hit if it ensures you a lottery pick and ability to let your young pg run the team without any issues?

Edit: Deron Williams left 18 mil on the table to leave the Nets and signed with Dallas. It effected our cap for 5 seasons at five mil a season, not the $21.5 that was owed over the remaining two

All I'm saying if he has suitor, it's possible. Dallas has space and are looking for a pg. A 3 year contract with a team option for the third with a small guaranteed could make the buyout worthwhile

Yes, if you buy out or waive a player he still counts against your cap

and even if you stretch it it still counts

The Lakers are still paying Deng and he counts against their cap
