Rock Hall nominations are here, and they're more eclectic than ever.

On Wednesday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the 16 artists eligible for induction in 2021, led by Jay-Z, Iron Maiden and Foo Fighters.

Most notably, it's the most female-heavy ballot in the organization's more than 30-year history. Seven women are up for induction, including Carole King (as a performer), Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner and The Go-Go's.

It's long overdue for the overwhelmingly male Rock Hall. According to an analysis early last year by Evelyn McDonnell of Loyola Marymount University, less than 8% of the artists inducted are women. The 2020 nominees featured only three women: Khan, Whitney Houston and Pat Benatar, of whom only Houston was inducted.

Recent inductees have spoken out about the Rock Hall's lack of inclusion. Shortly after his 2016 induction, Steve Miller railed against the hall in a candid interview with Rolling Stone, calling it a "private boys' club." Janet Jackson ended her 2019 speech by saying "induct more women." And Stevie Nicks, the only woman inducted twice as both a solo artist and member of Fleetwood Mac, said at the 2019 ceremony, "What I am doing is opening up the door for other women to go, like, ‘Hey man, I can do it.'"

If chosen for the 2021 class, King and Turner will become the second and third female artists inducted twice, following Nicks’ 2019 election. King was previously inducted in 1990 with songwriting partner Gerry Goffin, while Turner was inducted in 1991 as one half of musical duo Ike & Tina Turner.

Along with recognizing more women, the 2021 nominations are also the most racially diverse they've been since 1996, according to the Rock Hall. Nine of the 16 nominees feature artists of color, including Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, rock band Rage Against the Machine, and rappers Jay-Z and LL Cool J.

Jay-Z is up for induction his first year eligible for the honor. Artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their first album, EP or single; Jay-Z released his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," in 1996.

The nominees for the 2021 class are rounded out by Devo, Todd Rundgren and The New York Dolls. If Foo Fighters are inducted this year, Dave Grohl will also become a twice-inducted performer, after Nirvana was welcomed into the Rock Hall in 2014.

Inductees will be announced in May 2021.

I'm still struggling to understand why it took this long for Tina Turner though
Ike & Tina got in together 30 years ago. This nomination is for her as a solo artist.

Fela Kuti,

googled him ...only person i didnt know ...

let tht man in ...he was a pioneer ...:money:

Don't know why I thought LL Cool J was already in there.
This is the sixth ballot appearance for LL Cool J. Sadly, only five of the nominees can get voted in and he will now be competing against more and more newly eligible hip-hop superstars for the "one" spot. Enimem has that one spot on lock for 2022 and I predict OUTKAST might finally get due recognition during the 20th anniversary of "Speakerbox/Love Below." It's the same problem Chaka Khan has competing for the "one" R&B spot - she's been nominated three times solo and four more times as part of Rufus.

Of course I "gave up" on LL here on BGOL *ten years ago* and he's still getting nominated so what do I know? :o

Only Grandmaster Flash/FF (2007) and Run DMC (2009) are in the Hall now. Beasties will become the third hip-hop oriented act.

LL was a nominee for the class of 2010 and 2011 - he didn't even make the ballot this year! Sadly, LL will probably never make the ballot again :(

Take a look at some of the hip-hop acts eligible this year who didn't even get nominated: Heavy D/Boyz, Kool Moe Dee, Salt N Pepa, Schooly D. Quite frankly, I would have nominated ANY of them just as quickly as Eric B and Rakim.

And look who is eligible next year: Public Enemy, N.W.A., E.P.M.D., Boogie Down Productions, Jeff/Prince, MC Hammer (don't laugh!).

MY 2021 WINNER PREDICTIONS:
JAY-Z - woke white voters will chose Jay-Z over LL
THE GO-GOS - they 'need' at least two female inductees so...
TINA TURNER - voters will mistakenly assume she's not already in
IRON MAIDEN - it's still the ROCK and ROLL Hall so...
rock group wild card - either FOO FIGHTERS or DEVO but not both

WHO I'M probably VOTING FOR: (check the search engine - I've been a RRHOF voting member for over a decade)
JAY-Z
DIONNE WARWICK (with her new Twitter fame and so many legends 'leaving', this is my wild card shocker pick)
CHAKA KHAN (she's not getting in but dammit I can still hope)
THE GO-GOS or TINA TURNER but not both
IRON MAIDEN or FOO FIGHTERS but not both
