RIP: Sly Stone, pioneering leader of funk band Sly and the Family Stone, has died at 82

I was there that night when Petey Greene had to take to the stage to keep the ninjas from tearing down the DAR Hall in DC because Sly n em were 3 hours late and it was rumored that they were getting high in the dressing room. Must've been in about '74. Eventually they took the stage and gave one of the best shows I've ever seen for about 40 minutes.

Honestly, most folks in the biz are surprised he lasted this long. He was really troubled and so he became a slave to drugs - self-medicating.

But know this for damn sure - there was R&B before Sly, and there is R&B after Sly.

His influence was and is profound. He changed R&B.

No more pain brother. Rest easy.

But, didn't he just get paid by the record company?

:crymeariver:

Called pops he was upset too

Damn this song hit different

This was played in the movie dead presidents and it made me question who was that because that scene was just dope as he was just gliding through the room and that music was playing.

I watched a doc on him and they were looking for him and he was living in a camper in the back of Bootsy Collins mothers house

Anyways RIP
