RIAA successfully wins first case

what is mIRC?
the only thing i see online is something about a chat client

and is it a free usenet newsgroup site?
or do your have to pay
get an irc client then go to a server then go to a channel that has the content you are looking for and then download some shit

irc is free
newsgroups are free from most isps but there are bandwidth limits

my problems are these:

if people wanna steal, then go on ahead, but they shouldn't whine like bitches if/when they get caught. they know the game going in, and they know the score.

if people know they're stealing, then they shouldn't try to pull the okey doke and point fingers in different directions with invalid laughable arguments like:

(1) blaming the business model

(2) saying enforcing a copyright will hurt "customers" when they weren't customers to begin with

(3) claiming they support Black business when they're steady stealing Black artist's content (music, video) on the regular
See we have to define just exactly what it means to steal when it comes to downloading.
File-sharing is self meaning, your basically sharing though networking which is what computers are programmed to do and the internet makes possible on a large scale. Its very difficult to say your stealing when someone is willingly sharing with you. Look the RIAA just didn't think this one through, they didn't understand your basic household computer would lead to a world of decentralized networking.

But of course if all we did was download and not buy shit then that would kill the artist as well as the RIAA so its sort of a fucked up situation all around. My thing is this, the RIAA shoves so much shitty music down my throat through radio and TV that im forced to download first and buy later. Basically im sayin the problem is more them than us.

It's not stealing...

I repeat...It's NOT stealing.

When I steal something, I am depriving the owner of that item. This is "copyright infringement". There's a big difference because it's a gray area between what is fair use and what isn't. It's technically legal to download....it's just illegal to share it.

And how much of that is going to black artist in the first place? Most is going to making rich execs richer. They are suing not because of the artist like they claim but because they are late to the game. These fuckers are mad at Apple for selling tracks at 99 cents. The RIAA wants to peddle crap out at the same price they introduced CDs at a decade ago (sometimes more expensive) and expect people to pay it. The majority of the people are collectively saying "Fuck You." This woman lost but she's not the only one fighting and I'm telling you now...the RIAA isn't stopping file sharing anytime soon.

they can do whatever the fuck they want to, you don't have to like it

they can blame mother theresa if they want

I think if everyone was upfront and realistic as you expect pirates and their advocates to be there would be no problem. I'd stroll into my local music store and that new Young Lil' Skrazee album would have a sticker saying "14 Hot Tracks - 1 worth listening to" and I'd know not to buy it. I'd see the trailer for the latest action movie and it would let me know how shitty it did in screenings before its release.

But hey we can't all have it our way can we.

You're in a stolen country built on the stolen land, stolen labor and the stolen lives of millions complaining about people stealing  chill bruh

You're gonna fuck him up with this logic. Fuck the RIAA. They are fighting a battle that they cannot win. They are hoping to put fear into many who download, as they can't possibly go after everyone, but there are gonna always be people like myself who say fuck them.

You're in a stolen country built on the stolen land, stolen labor and the stolen lives of millions complaining about people stealing  chill bruh

all the more reason why it's relevant for US, no?

and for the record, i didn't complain about people stealing. i complained about (a) people bitching when they get caught and (b) making pitiful excuses to rationalize their behavior.

It's not stealing...

I repeat...It's NOT stealing.

When I steal something, I am depriving the owner of that item. This is "copyright infringement".

you're apparently only familiar with half of the issue. copyright infringement is the civil half. intellectual property theft is the criminal half. and in case it slipped past you just now, "theft" also means "stealing".

And how much of that is going to black artist in the first place? Most is going to making rich execs richer.

misplaced righteous indignation. ask any Black filmmaker how influential box office numbers are for getting future projects made. so illegal downloading doesn't knock his legit hustle? Prince filed against The Pirate Bay (as was posted here on BGOL). I said good for him then, and I say good for him now.

I don't see how some of you defend those greasy euros stealing from an american Black artist. :smh:

Thats the question now isn't it? When is stealing Not Stealing?

If you have purchased MJ Thriller from the early 80's and it has become useless and now sees it on Limewire or Rapidshare or whatever medium that has this file to share is it stealing. I am not talking about the Britney Spears and all this F'ing Rubbish that they call music today. I couldn't care less if they ever made any more new music. There is enough brilliant music from he past that has embed its claws into what real entertainment was meant to be.

Do they want you to keep purchasing the same stuff over and over every time they come out with a new format or a better way to listen to the stuff you already own but which has succumb to demise because of time and wear and tear from usage?

Or do they want you to dictate what users should do even if you recorded the stuff directly from the radio or even Satellite Radio which one has to pay for?

Is that Fair??

Abso "F'ing" Lutely NOT.....

They have their rules and you have yours

JUST DONT GET CAUGHT!!!!

A Matter of fact I guarantee if you do get caught and have a fancy lawyer that can dance circles around the MPAA & RIAA you can overturn precedents one after another and send these bastards a message.

They only time they ever win any real court cases is when they pick on the people that really can't fight back due to lack of knowledge and loopholes in the justice system that they themselves have created...

FIGHT THE POWER and THE POWER THAT YOU FIGHT JUST MIGHT BE THE GOLIATH TO YOUR SLINGSHOT...

OUT!!!

i've been saying this all along the battle over the internet isn't to stop bootleggers its because they are assed out in the digital revolution and now they are playing catch up. Rather than embracing the net and making things better they want to rape you even more fuck the RIAA. Labels have been over charging people for cds for years its the ultimate bullshit the cd costs 20 cents to make yet they were charging 24 dollars for years hell it costs more money to make a record and a tape yet some how the cd was more expensive its only recently that they started selling the 8 dollar cd and even that is after the album is not hot any more. the artists still only got 1-2 dollars even if the cd was sold for 24 bucks fuck record labels they can kiss my ass and artists need to wake the fuck up and stop this bullshit you are being pimped in your name.

Don't be fooled its not illegal to download something its illegal to share it. The concept of sharing music is being made into the great evil of our generation. Sharing music online means you can distribute music to the masses without a big record company clogging up a store with red tape and pushing bullshit in the front. The internet allows everybody a piece of the pie and this shit scares these evil bastards more than anything.

And watch once this music revolution is over with and the major labels lose, the movie industry is next fuck 14 dollar movie tickets and 10 dollar popcorn.

Say it with me: IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO DOWNLOAD. I pay a tax on my blank media that says I can do that.

"Greasy euros?" So everyone on this board that downloads from Slam's thread is...??? Give me a break. I download and share so that I don't waste my $20 when a CD comes out. As it is, I can't determine if a CD is worth it before i buy it. So I download. If I like it, I buy it. If the RIAA spent more time making a better product than suing their customers and bitching, they wouldn't be in the position they are in now. Prince is an anomaly. He opening shares his own music (Didn't he release his whole CD with a magazine for free?). If the RIAA did that, illegal file sharing would go down. It'll never stop though. These fools bitched about recordable cassette tapes. They are always a step behind and once again that is the position they have found themselves in.

Thank you. Some people must like getting fucked over. It makes no sense. And don't get me started on the Movie industry. Because they are trying to milk the customer for every last dime, that's why it takes forever for a DVD to come out. Someone explain to me why 300 just came out a month ago and they are already advertising the Transformer DVD? It's like they arbitrarily decide when they want to give us the DVD. I thought the customer came first.

all the more reason why it's relevant for US, no?
Its relevant for us to be lectured about what is fair use and what is stealing by corporate america? Nah I dont think so.

and for the record, i didn't complain about people stealing. i complained about (a) people bitching when they get caught and (b) making pitiful excuses to rationalize their behavior.

Why complain? Youre in the land of liars and thieves. I wonder where people would learn how to come up with pitiful excuses to rationalize their supposed thievery?

you're apparently only familiar with half of the issue. copyright infringement is the civil half. intellectual property theft is the criminal half. and in case it slipped past you just now, "theft" also means "stealing".

this was a civil case wasn't it? not a piracy case in criminal court right?

the riaa and mpaa dont give a fuck about customers - they see customers holding dollars that they want that's it. Let me remind you how these same corporations that make up the RIAA and MPAA are the same assholes who don't let their other media outlets say anything about the corrupt government and these same assholes are the ones pushing 50 Cent shootemup crack slanger fuckery even though the market via sales is telling them no one wants that bullshit anymore

Fuck them - fuck the modern entertainment industry in general
let that bullshit totally collapse and lets see independent artists market their work.

Its because of the members of the MPAA and RIAA I can't listen to most of the radio or watch most television shows or go to the movies much anymore.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck em

Some reading info on how the music industry fucks artists over...
http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/

It's a transcript of a speech by Courtney Love  but it's a good read.
(Posting link only to not disturb Mr. Powell) :D

Fuck them - fuck the modern entertainment industry in general

I believe this to be the bottom line. The whole industry needs to be revamped.
Old styles I pass dat, slow down on fast rap
All in yo' ass crack, old King go Blast dat
Conjure to ask dat, hyper type of flashback
I publish like ASCAP lyrics for hand clap
No past rappin, youth trackin, talent lackin
MC's more worried about their financial backin
Steady packin a gat as if something's gonna happen
But it doesn't, they wind up shootin they cousin, they buggin
I appear everywhere and nowhere at once
I know my style is bumpin, even though some people front
It's the God of rap, you heard of it
The one that rhymes toward the sky givin airplanes mad turbulence
In rap tournaments, I reign permanent
Don't you think by now the number one spot I'm not concerned with it
The course of rap I'm turnin it
Back to that good old fashioned way of getting cash money by earning it
No bogus hocus pocus, I bring back to focus
Skills if you notice my position is lotus
Now quote this, MC's are just hopeless
Thinkin record sales make them the dopest

so throw the baby out with the bath water? there goes the moral compass, i guess. say so long to our ability to condemn those that bore fruit off the "stolen labor" of our ancestors, because now it's OK.

"Greasy euros?" So everyone on this board that downloads from Slam's thread is...??? Give me a break.

didn't nobody mention brother SLAM, so don't switch shit up.

i mentioned The Pirate Bay specifically, and everybody knows TPB is run by some greasy ass euro scumbags.

comparing the scale of theivery committed by TPB with a SLAM post is ridiculous.

Because they are trying to milk the customer for every last dime, that's why it takes forever for a DVD to come out.

HH,

where do you get your information from?

the window of theater to DVD has been rapidly diminishing over the past couple years. so much so that theater chains are suffering the impact of it. studio reps are in favor of the shrinking window, theater chains are against it. you probably haven't noticed that some independent films in the past year have been released in theater, on DVD and on the web SIMULTANEOUSLY.

If it were simply about "paying for the music", I wouldn't have a problem.

Increasingly though the RIAA is seeking to say "pay for the music", "pay again if you want to listen on your PC", "pay again if you want to listen on an MP3 player", "pay again if you want to listen on your phone", "pay again if you want to use it as your ringtone".

Their ultimate objective is clearly "pay every time you listen to it", but they don't yet have that ability.

The copyright industry (rather than the composers and performers) will continue their assault on "fair use" until either they achieve this, or until there is a sufficient consumer backlash the they have to come to terms.

I'm not talking about those people. What the RIAA is doing is imposing its will on every consumer. If you buy a CD and don't want to take keep your original in the car, according to the RIAA your copy? is illegal. Even though you purchased and have the original CD at home. This is where the problem comes in and everything gets cloudy.

So if you purchase a CD and make a copy of that CD regardless of your intent you have violated copyright laws. You literally have no rights as a purchaser.

First off I need to get on that torrent train asap..everybody in this thread made great points about why the RIAA needs to seriously go fuck themselves..but MB said it best about the buyer of said product having absolutely no purchasing rights as a customer...Hilltop is also correct about filesharing not being stealing...Im trying to think of a good example to use...Ill use the educational system...If a teacher buys a book from a store for whatever teaching purposes pertaining to his class, when he buys the book in its original state, the title of ownership has transferred from the book seller to the teacher..now the teacher knows he doesnt need the whole book as a reference point for said topic so he decides not make his students go out and buy the book but instead makes COPIES of the relevant info he needs from the book to give as a handout to his students(most to all teachers do this)...now no one will ever say there was an issue with what the teacher did and the students for taking the handouts as a possible violation of copyright infringement...and now if you change the characters and replace them with RIAA,filesharers, and downloaders, all of a sudden we got issues..to me the RIAA's argument is mute...they want to make it an issue of stealing when in fact its really an issue of consumer rights...and boro is right the RIAA wants you to buy the same cd for every occassion...

and yet we insist we have a right to call "foul" when the material infringed upon is ours? then nah, i don't think so.
[/quotte]

You compare slavery and genocide to copyright infringement? OK

Good move.

so throw the baby out with the bath water? there goes the moral compass, i guess. say so long to our ability to condemn those that bore fruit off the "stolen labor" of our ancestors, because now it's OK.

The moral compass? And which direction does that point in the USA?

Again comparing slavery, terrorism and genocide to possible copyright infringement. :smh:

You've taken reaching to entirely new levels.

as ridiculous as comparing slavery and genocide with copyright infringement?

what happened to that moral compass?

I know you're in the porn industry so I figure you hate how piracy kills profits but are you involved in mainstream media like music and regular movies too or is it your moral compass that keeps you pissed at TPB?

ok so if it was a civil case you pretty much confirmed what HH said

i confirmed what i wrote. i don't pretend to speak for HH.

HH referred to copyright infringement as if civil liability were the only consequences.

i added that there is a criminal aspect to consider: intellectual property theft.

HH's position is/was that downloading is not stealing. i countered that theft is stealing.

You compare slavery and genocide to copyright infringement? OK

Good move.

Again comparing slavery, terrorism and genocide to possible copyright infringement.

you got it twisted now.

YOU are the one who mentioned "stolen land, stolen labor, stolen ______", not me.

what ground is left to stand on when you use 1 hand to point a finger of condemnation toward those who profited off of "stolen labor", but use the other hand to help yourself to "stolen labor"?

this is what i'm talking about. why do all these people have so much shame in their game? why not just admit "yeah, i steal shit. so what?" and go about their business? why the childish need to make up these BULLSHIT motives?

"it's ok to steal because they're rich anyway."

"i wouldn't steal shit if they corrected their business model."

"they stole from me, so i'm stealing from them."

i'm not pissed at anyone. i just call a crook a crook.

and you're a little off. i'm involved in ALL of the above, not just adult video. admittedly, i'm more well known in the adult community.

and i'm not terribly concerned about how piracy kills profits because it's MAYBE a handful of people in the game who actually understand how (and more importantly, where) the majority of the revenue is actually generated.
