British boxer Amir Khan is being lined up for a possible clash with American champion Floyd Mayweather this time next year, Sky Sports reported Tuesday.

Golden Boy Promotions are hoping Khan will successfully defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Marcos Maidana in December before unifying the division by taking on the winner of Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander.

This would boost Khan's pay-par-view ratings in America to make a fight with Mayweather viable, in the event that a clash between Mayweather and Khan's stablemate Manny Pacquiao is not made.

That fight is one the whole boxing world wants to see, but so far negotiations have not been successful while the issue is further clouded by Mayweather's upcoming court appearance in relation to charges of battery and grand larceny.

It is unlikely Pacquiao will extend his career beyond next spring, which is likely to be the last time the two teams will look to stage the "mega-fight."

But Golden Boy bosses are keen to exploit the box office appeal of the "Money Man," with Khan clearly the man they hope can fill any breach.

"If we can't make Mayweather-Pacquiao in the spring it may be too late," Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told the Daily Mail. "So this gives us time to build Amir into a pay-per-view superstar in the U.S."

:eek:So another 140 pounder, Floyd fighting another smaller man, WOW:eek:, what a surprise. Wake me up when Pac and Floyd retire.

That Pakistani boy hasn't got a chance even if Mayweather had a reallly bad day, but he'll get a cheque out of it..

It doesn't matter, dude is another 140lb'er. Floyd needs to fight guys his weight or bigger, stop making this lil cats move up. Pac is fighting a guy way bigger than he is, at least he acts like he has some heart. Fuck both those assholes though.

C/S....

:smh:

I hope this isn't true. I'm not even tripping on the weight as much as why Khan?

Khan isn't even the best in his division...

Khan hasn't proved his worth yet as a fighter and lets not even talk about drawing power....

Khan barely deserves a chance at Bradley or Alexander let alone Floyd.....

and lastly

There is no "MONEY" in that fight.................

The fuck?:smh::smh::smh:

Floyd is gonna justify this fight if it happens by saying he's had such a long layoff, and Khan is a name, and he needed a get the rust off fight before stepping up in competition, etc. Same ole bullshit with this Dude, just like when he fought Marquez... Fuck his criminal ass!!!! :smh:

Same here. On a side note however, props to Glen Johnson for being added to the super six, he's gonna WHOMP Allan Green's ass.

Man I must have been in a time warp... whos place did he take? He is gonna run over Allan Green's ass though.. For real!!! Glen fights mad than a motherfucker!!:lol:

:lol::lol: Word! He replaced Kessler. He's gonna fight Green on Showtime as part of a doubleheader along with Marquez vs Lopez.

Not quite the same cause there is still some legitimacy in fighting someone who is ranked no. 2 on the p4p list....

This shit makes no sense at all....

the fact that he isn't fighting much hurts him with picking this fight. You can fight a lesser fighter and get a pass if you are fighting like Marquez is fighting now.... 2-3 fights a year, but when you make your every fight an event you gotta do better than this shit.

There is no legitimate argument for this shit. :smh:

This isn't new info. GBP has been talking him as an possible opponent for a lil bit. I know they want to make money like bob does by having khan fight other gbp fighters but this guy is fighting pbf is sad. Sad on all fronts. I can see this if the opportunity comes up pbf will take it.

All reasons why I'm not believing it. Mayweather is in the last days of his own career while GB would want to make money off Khan for years to come. It would shock me for them to throw away all this cautious matchmaking and put him in the ring with Mayweather, who would not only beat him but make him look bad.

If he wants a "just in case" fight, it should be Andre Berto or Tim Bradley on the outside, both of whom should be working to get their own profiles up.

That would be my thinking if I were Floyd.

If PBF pulled this move on top of Manny vs Margarito and after the Shane vs Mora PPV..... Boxing will lose fans and it will hurt future PPV buys.

I don't know, boxing fans, like all sports fans, are very forgiving. Even now, with all the ill will built up, Floyd/Manny will still do 2 mil.

Floyd/Khan won't draw 750k and he would have to wait a whole year when he can get Berto, a welterweight champ but still pretty unknown and not doing much about it, quickly. He would still be a heavy, heavy favorite but Andre's a champ and undefeated.

Fuck any fight them assholes get into. I will not be buying any of that shit. Bootleg or fuck it. Fuck em both. Fuck em all.

Khan is smaller, green, has a loss, a GBP fighter, and not in his class. All those facts poibt why I see this fight happening.
The fact that he is a Golden Boy fighter is the exact reason it won't. It's not like they have a bunch of young moneymaking prospects in the wings and Oscar and Schaefer would be insane to sacrifice the biggest prize they have to fluff up Mayweather, a guy they only co-promote and can and will flip on them when it's convenient.

Glen johnson is going to win the super six.

Highly unlikely. Glen's still got some gas in the tank but not enough to win this tournament, especially with him coming in late. It's hard to see him beating Ward, Dirrell, or even Abraham.

So they just throw dudes name out for the sake of marketing their fighter now

This nigga said he aint fighting right now and damn sure aint fighting no AK

Those characteristics do seem to make Khan eligible an an opponent for Mayweather. Also, Khan's chin is suspect which also helps. The other opponents around him are just unreachable for the following reasons:

1. Williams: Not even a welterweight (neither was DLH but so what?)

2. Berto: Has a belt but is green and is probably not marketable (Just like Demarcus Corley but who cares, right?)

3. Pacquiao: First it was because of PED's but now it's not. Who needs Pac anyway?

Apparently, only Matthew Hatton and Khan are available to test the greatness of Mayweather. Fighting those two offensive masters of disaster will definitely confirm Mayweather's standing as possibly the greatest defensive fighter of all time.

Ya'll need to read. And Khan has more skills and potential than Bradley or Berto. Remember Floyd waits years in between fighting any black fighters so those guys are out.

Are we really going to do this again?

How many of you lined up real quick to believe he was going to fight Matthew Hatton last year? Even though no one from GB or Mayweather ever mentioned dude, some of ya'll ran with it. So now, even though it makes no real sense, you're going to do it again with Khan, Golden Boy's golden goose.

Okay.

Okay.

The fans can only really go on what they hear. Mayweather never mentions anyone that he is supposedly going to fight until the last minute so that's really no criteria for confirming that any particular fight is going to be made. Furthermore, last time GB said Mayweather and Pac were about to fight and then Mayweather, via Ellerbe, said it wasn't true. In the end, it's all one big fucking guessing game anyway. No one really knows what the hell Mayweather's going to do, hence all the speculation.

I don't think Mayweather is even worth all the speculation. He's an inactive kind of guy. He's been in the welterweight division for how many years and how many welters has he fought? That's it in a nutshell. He's virtually a retired guy.

Then we should speculate intelligently or leave it alone. Since we done this before, I don't understand people falling for the banana in the tailpipe again.
Dude will fight sooner or later, he's racked up some legal fees on top of those old IRS problems and he's not getting any younger.

Come on Dave....... you are expecting people to do things intelligently :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

:smh:

To tell ya'll the truth, I really don't give a shit who this guy fights next. Was just reporting a story I'd seen on numerous sites in one form or another. Fuck Mayweather and Pacquiao. I'd rather watch Khan vs Bradley or Khan vs Alexander than watch Khan fight Floyd. Floyd's fights are always supreme let downs and Mayweather vs Pac will be no exception when and if it happens. I see Floyd ending up a sad cautionary tale anyway. Dude is only gonna be left with his undefeated record if he's not careful.

I think there are limits on "intelligent" speculation in this particular situation because there is so little information to go on. Virtually anything can happen and fans have historically been burnt with fights they absolutely did not expect or want to see. No one would have speculated that Bernard Hopkins would fight super bum Robbie Allen three times. I think it's hard to speculate on what Mayweather is going to do because the guy is very inactive and inexplicably left the hugest fight in boxing on the table recently.

Well, fuck Pac but fuck Floyd more IMO because at least Pac is fighting on a consistent basis. I think that the least boxers can give their fans is to at least fight. Floyd is making it really hard for even his fans to defend him. Even the ones on this board are like WTF.

It's funny I was thinking that same thing except I was thinking about the so called "stacked" welter weight division from a few years ago. Some much bull shit went down that none of them lived up to the hype. :smh:

Nobody could step up and be the man, between the promotional companies, fighters wanting to take easy routes.....ugh, this shit is disgusting. Boxing has really reached a fucking low point. No fights can get made. When the new guys like Dawson get a chance to become the man, they're exposed as having no guts. Everybody wants to play it safe. Promotional companies go with guys who have the "look" of a champ as opposed to a cat who can actually fight. If cats are looking for safety - don't box. I swear it's not the real boxing fans who are paying for fights nowadays.

Plus the robberies and bad judges.

There were so many matches that slipped through the cracks and could have still been made but everyone turned puss. For instance why hasn't Berto fought Clottey, Cotto or even rematched Collazo.

That's the big one, cats are content to win a close decision that could've been a draw, and then stay away from the rematch because the first fight was too hard. Every promotional company wants to protect their prize boxer. They can make more money putting all these cats up to fight each other. Since when in boxing did a loss mean your career was over. When did the public, the promoters and fighters acquire this mentality. Everyone is afraid to lose because then they won't get the big fights and make money. WTF?:smh:
