Federal agents raided Rep. Ilhan Omar’s DC-area home this morning as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
Sources say the probe focuses on alleged fraud in immigration paperwork her late father filed when she was a child.
Omar claims she became a U.S. citizen in 2000 at age 17 through her father’s naturalization. Reports note her Minnesota legislative bio previously listed her date of birth to be Oct 4, 1981, that means she was not a minor and two years beyond what would be allowed for naturalization through her father.
Her staff asked the Legislative Reference Library to change it to 1982 in 2019. The library updated the date without requiring a birth certificate or naturalization record.
If she wasn’t a minor at the time, her claim to have obtained citizenship through her father may not hold up. If the evidence proves she committed fraud and is not a U.S. citizen, she should be prosecuted and deported.
