Have you ever heard a remake/cover of a song that made you fall in love with the original all over again?
Have you ever heard a remake that you thought was a total injustice to the original song?
One summer I went to see India.Arie at a free concert in Centennial Park. Now I have always loved Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love" but she sung it so well that the original is now part of my daily rotation.
Then once I saw a concert with Vesta Williams who I already loved. And she song her version of Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and I rushed out and bought the album that featured it.
Other remakes I absolutely love:
Luther Vandross' For Always, Forever, For Love by Lalah Hathaway
Cherelle's "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" by Robert Palmer
Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky" by Intro
Carlos Donida's "I Who Have Nothing" by Luther Vandross & Martha Wash (such a totally different rendition from Shirley Bassey's version)
