Real talk: Would Wu have blown up if it were Cappadonna instead of Meth ???

Mr. Met

Meth was put on when Donna got locked up and he was the most popular in the group at one point for collabs, etc.

He wasn’t a better spitter than Cap was but his charisma helped sell the group to a broader audience IMO.

No.

Solowise, I was never a fan of ‘Tical’ and always have thought that Cappa’s ‘The Pillage’ was a superior solo album.

Still, as far as the Clan? Meth was a bookend due to his dark and gritty delivery, with ODB’s high-energy as the other bookend. Capps could not have filled either role. MAYBE the only spot he could have taken was UGod’s. But him for Meth? Nah.....

Not a fan of Cap. At all. Like, not even Winter Warz.

But Mef is nasty with his. As a feature on somebody else's joint, he's incredible. His voice, punchlines, flows, all sick. His albums suffer from weak production, imo.

But no, Cap don't have what Mef has. Wu would be a lesser beast without Method Man.

No. And that's not a knock on Cap. The core of the Wu is dependent on each other. They were great in their own right but shined best when vibing off each other. I do think Wu wouldve been better without U-God and Masta Killa, though.

Method Man is the least lethal member of the group, lyrically and just style wise.....

I liked Meth on that song he did with Biggie but other than that I never search for him or have ever purchased one cd besides the single "bring the pain".

Meth may have been the most popular back in the 90s, but Ghost was definitely the most consistent.....His verses was still poppin at a time when the rest of Wu Tang faded out (i.e. Special Delivery remix).

Hell no. Meth is that nigga for a reason. Not only did he have the personality to be the star but he was a top notch rhymer. Top 5 all time in terms of flow and riding a beat

I agree...Meth caught lightning in the bottle. The timing was right, his charisma and energy was right for that era in the rap game.

Tical Meth > How High Meth

Cap is one of the most underrated rappers of all time.

...His verse on Winter warz was classic. One of the greatest verses spit in the history of hip hop period.

Although Meth had some the catchy hooks and hot songs, I cant think of a classic verse that he spit from beginning to end.

Hell, a pile of alpaca shit could take U-god's spot.

“method man” was an ill track/video...my memory might be selective but him having that solo joint catapulted him to the forefront of the group whether it was planned or not...that single was fucking huge and was literally the “B” side track when they was hitting up college campuses and passing out singles...I can’t even remember if “protect ya neck” was the single they were promoting...I remember hearing that “method man” track for the first time tho...it wasn’t just about the ladies...meth was a diverse/dope enough artist that his style was appealing to everyone

No way. :hmm::smh:

Method Man brought the ladies.

Meth was the most 'marketable' of them all... and had the biggest 'solo brand' in the whole crew. He was the 'most respected' of the whole crew by East Coast emcees, West Coast emcees, Midwest, Canadians, R&B artists & even the Rock crowd.

Basically, he was the main guy who 'expanded' the Wu-Tang name (in the biggest way) for various audiences... with all the features he did.

I think top 5 is kinda high but that aside I agree w/ your sentiment overall...dude went toe to toe on “the what” w/ biggie and held his own...some could even argue he got the better of him

We don't know because Cappa wasn't on the album and we don't have a clue what would've been cooked up. Obviously Meth was a stand out on 36 Chambers because he had a fucking song NAMED after him on it! Ridiculous to even discuss.

Yes the Wu would've blown with Cap instead of Meth.

"Protect Ya Neck" came out in 92, "Method Man" came out in 93. The Wu was already buzzin with "Protect Ya Neck"

ya the buzz surrounding them was crazy...chics wasn’t really into meth music until ’94/95 imo when he went solo and then the ‘all I need’ remix dropped
