Real spit...........Are gyms really scams ????

Was surfing the Web on calories and read this shit.

Dude basically shit on the whole gym concept.

I'm assuming this is based on that insanity workout.

http://www.maxworkouts.com/

I've incorporated Millionaire Hoy's workouts which are more intense in 20 minutes than most gym workouts and you actually feel it I n your entire body.

And you don't need a gym. Maybe they are scamming.

You can cook food at home so are restaurants really scams? :puzzled:

Depends on what you want. Yoga can be an intense workout but doing both of these won't help you bench 300 if that's what you are aiming for.

I will tell you Planet Fitness is a scam. A pretty fucking brilliant one, too.

Curves too.

I can take a large room, throw some equipment in there, tell people you do what you feel like doing without intimidation, and I can make millions?

Well fuck, I'm in.

A warrior only need some weights, a room and a fan in the corner. I'm bringing my own motivation.

What he said. I do this and that is all you need and work out on your schedule.

truth be told they are a bizz that capitalizes on peoples laziness..they'res a good amount of bizzness that capitalize on people laziness, impatiences, naiveness...not a scam cause people recieve a service/product but def an opportunity to get consumers money..by the way restaurants number 1 targets are cacs cause they can't cook for shit and are lazy

They are in a way. Only 2% of the population works out consistently. Meaning... 3 days a week. Gyms want you to join in order to get into a contract. They will sign thousands of people up for a small space knowing that most people won't go, but the have you under contract. I own a workout studio and our concept is entirely different, but it is always difficult to keep people coming.

as far as the op gyms were mostly a cac thing for decades..most people don't seem to remember when gym prices were high as shit and mostly in cac areas..we weren't their targets cause nigs wasn't gonna pay 60 bucks or better a month to go to the gym..we were big on home exercises/equipment, bike riding, sports, parks, public pools, and free rec centers..it wasn't until the early 2000's when somebody had a masterplan and decided to build gyms in the hood and drop the price bigtime..somebody said if we start selling memberships at crackhead prices we gonna get a shitload of custy..that's how they attracted the black and latin market

Gyms are good for the variety of equipment

most people do not have room for a home gym or know what to buy

Most people will not be as motivated to workout if their gym is in their home.

why we need homes?

why not tents in the woods?

i think the American dream is a scam, why i need a house, and a car too.

im gonna build me this.

Funny you should mention this. My boy has worked out a NYSC (New York Sports Club)for about 10 years. The memberships were kinda high, like 80 to 100 bucks a month. He loved it because he said it kept all the riff raff out, plus only serious people would pay that much o work out so you didnt have to worry about posers in the gym taking up space.

This year NYSC dropped their prices to 20 bucks a month, now Ray Ray, Pookie and Tyrone are all up in the gyms acting fools. Tossing weights on the floor, sitting on equipment while texting, etc... My boy hates it because he said that was why he paid a premium, so the hood element wouldnt be up in there.

ok...now I'm convinced this is forcesteeler

I dont know who Forcesteeler is, but feel free to think what you want.

I dont workout at NYSC, I just reported what my boy says has been a progressive decline ever since they lowered their prices to compete with Planet Fitness

I never thought about that, the gym i go to now is no contract, you just pay $25 and there's always people in there just THERE. Dudes coming in there every morning just to gawk and harass the few women that do come in there. I was a member of another gym that you had to sign a one year contract that costs $65 a month and i never really saw that

Yeah, I do all my workouts at home. Plus all I really care about is health, so looking the part is of no concern to me. I'm on that old fashion country workout. Stay busy, stay moving around, work outside doing yard work and other things. Plus I will take my dog for long walks and run (no less than 8 miles about once or twice a week). I'll save my money for other things (I'm a cheapskate).

To each his own.

yeah, most gyms, especially chains, depend on most of their members not showing up much. If 90% of members actually worked out several times a week, they'd be in trouble (overcrowding, lines for equipment).

To answer the OP's question, yes they are scams to a certain degree. Most people don't even know how to effectively exercise.

When I first joined a gym, I didn't. Observing experienced people is where I learned.

After a while, I was like fuck it. I can get all the work-out I need with a dumbbell set at home.

If you're just trying to swole and in-shape, that's all you need.

A gym is only useful if you want to be Mr. or Ms Olympia. :dunno:

How is that a scam though? they say it's a judgement free zone but people still judge :dunno:

a gym is a gym is a gym. Facts. either you go there and get busy or you watch the fees get taken from your account monthly, so you might as well get busy

Well Planet Fitness is so cheap, its not really a scam for those who visit for 3 hours+ every week. I have one a few blocks from my office and I hit it up in the mornings for treadmill and weights. Easy. Especially in the winter when I don't want to run outside.

I also benefit from not having to store a bench and plates in my house.

I ALSO GET TO LOOK AT AZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Which is a real motivating factor for me...

Cable television is scam, internet, phone service is a scam, ATM fees are a scam, Red Light cameras are a scam.

The gym is not really a true scam. If the people that sign the contract don't come, then who's fault is that. I'm giving you access to all this shit, if you don't use it, your fault, your problem, not mine. It's available.

We pay all this money for electric pulses that cross a fucking wire that doesn't cost a dam dime for the company. Yeah I know they have to take care of the circuits and fiber adn pay their employees and shit but the most of that shit is profit. This entire society is a scam brother. At least the gym offers something tangible like a longer fucking life, good health, and other great benefits. Where as cable tv offers you to be fat lazy piece of shit.

It's all a scam. But...I do value the opinions here. I personally pay for a gym membership to get out of the house. I work from home so going to the gym is my me time out of the crib and to eyeball a few asses and go back to the crib. Its not a scam for the people that take advantage of it.

I would depending on your living arrangements and what are your fitness goals. I can't see if you live in a apartment and you want to strength train you're not going to have a 400lb Olympic weight set and bench. Or if you like boxing which is a good for cardio but having a speed and heavy bag in a apartment don't think the neighbors will like that. As longs as the gym don't try to sign you to a contract or membership then gyms are useful.

Want to be thinner, healthier, and more fit? Skip the gym and change your lifestyle.

When I lived in Oakland I weighed 165 pounds. I moved to San Francisco and within 8 months I was down to 144.

How did I do it? I sold my car and had to walk the insane hills. Quit my office job and took one that required me to ride a razor scooter 4-6 hours a day. I cut back fast food and ate at the much cheaper and healthier local spots. When broke I cut out Ramen noodles and switched to much cheaper, and healthier, brown rice with the same flavoring. Threw in a can of tomato sauce and pinto beans to be schmancy now and then.

I never set foot in the gym. Don't have any set exercise routine, no personal trainer, dietician, fitness goals, workout buddies, discipline, will power or any of that shit. Best part of all this change cut my cost of living while earning me more money.
