Random Thoughts 2011

Glad moms is fine GP, and you've done a TON of Globetrotting and been kind enough to share the pics, we definitely appreciate it. I know what the job thing is like as I'm now looking for a job as well. Stay in the fight.

Random thought related to above: This might be the best thing to happen to me. Time to regroup.

Sup, folks.

Haven't been around, cause I've been dealing with life.

Going through a small job transistion. The company that I work for, ManTech International, lost the contract that sends me all over the world. We're funded through to October, but I'm not just sitting idle. I'm getting my resume together, and gonna start putting feelers out there.

Am I disappointed that I possibly won't be traveling anymore after October? A little. But I've done enough globetrotting to last a lifetime. So I can live with that.

I turned 37 back in February, and my sister's birthday was yesterday (April 1st). Took her out to the Hard Rock Cafe here in Baltimore for dinner.

My mother gave both of us a scare last week when she started complaining of chest pains. We took her to the hospital. She's fine, but they kept her overnight just to be safe.

Other than that, not much has been going on. Haven't been on a trip since January.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to pop thru at least once a week. Y'all be safe.

GP

Cool. Happy belated to you and your sister. I'm glad your mother is OK too.

What he said GP. Take care of your mother because even the slightest pain could be the onset of something else. Make sure she walks and eat a little more healthier.

Glad to see you proactive on the job hunt; good luck to you and Shy with that. It's hard out there.

CT where you at?

I don't feel like cleaning out the closet...where is that book?!

Hey GP! :) With your experience, you will be fine. Everything is in transition. I just found at something at my job too that had me like :(, but I just had to take a breathe and plan to adjust. So much of staying sane is about being flexible, even when it sucks.
Glad your mom is well! That's the really important stuff. Happy belated birthday!

Me and Mr. Iz went to a charity used book fair today. As usual we were the only black people there. :hmm: We got a shit load of great books for 18 bucks and we helped support students' college funds. That's a good day.

I really am in a good place right now....I'm @ a place where I'm putting all of my energy into a better me...I'm running my first 5k in June and it's the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life...

nothing can stop me but me...

That's that bullshit.

I'm already planning summer reading fro the school booklists. My children WILL be read to, and their parents VERY WELL read.

Shit like this irks me. How are we suppose to expect our children to do something and be the greatness in our minds if we can't help to start that change? I have NEVER heard of a person in a position of power or knowledgeable withing their own field NOT have a favorite author, book, or genre.

*huffs

I...think I have something to work out. Excuse me...

Forgetting your puncture kit and breaking your key. It's going to be a long day.

Mother's day in the UK today. Flowers and gift vouchers are ready to go. Love you Mum.

GP. Good to hear from you again. I guess I could for us all in saying all the best wishes to your mother. Hope everything is going well.

This is a big problem Mel. I was talking to my mom yesterday about my niece who is having trouble reading. My mom got us library cards as soon as we were old enough, but my brother and his wife do not read to my niece Honestly, I think my brother's wife doesn't read well herself and therefore is reluctant to take that on. I wish there was more support for adults that struggle with literacy. There are still plenty of people that squeaked by high school (and college) who do not read well. If you don't have a love for reading you can't pass that on to your kids. If you can't read critically you end up like 70% of the internet believing any snip and snap of information somebody else interpreted and spit back at you or made a youtube about. It's sad.

Missing my grandmothers....Both of them:(

I find it amazing how I turned out because I had / have to deal with that on a personal level, having someone in the family who can't read. It's hard to get over but if you see a problem with your child, you do what you have to do to get over that and help them - that is when it becomes something bigger than yourself.

If I was trying to get help for someone other than taking the tie out to teach them to read there might be some ConEd classes at the local college that can help with that. If nothing else there are Learning Support reading classes at most colleges but I am not sure how they are structured. With the older folks I can understand social promotion. But if you are thirty or under and you have children I see no earthly reason why you and your growing children don't own at least ONE book. Hell when I gave birth the first time the hospital GAVE us a book. That thing is so worn out now...

*deep breaths

I'm around Mel. I'm out here trying to do my thing. This has been a good year so far, and it will only get better. I check the board a lot, but I just don't have many "random thoughts" to share. I don't post as much in general anymore though. Most of the time I just observe and keep it moving. I guess I pick my spots more now. Anyway, what's up with you?

Thanks for the well wishes.

-Damn sinuses fuckin' me up. I hate taking sick days, but I'm gonna take one tomorrow.-

My homegirl that was working over in Kuwait/Iraq is coming home. She got a job here at Fort Meade in MD. I'm sending her a copy of my resume, so she can recommend me to the people that hired her.

Mom's fine now. but her legs are swollen. She's been a cook all her life, and years of standing on her feet are taking their toll. She's 59 and needs a cane just to walk around nowadays. Worse, she smokes, which fucks with my sinuses. She ain't giving up her cigarettes. But I still love her.

I'll catch up with y'all later in the week.

I don't know what's up in Maryland but down here we got red dirt. Clay if you will. Don't turn it into mud, just put your mom's joints in it. Like get a kiddie pool and let her put her legs in the dirt. Sure to work. Might want to check out some nursuries to see if they package natural Georgia red dirt / clay.

Woah...

Being without the internet for 3 days really shows much addicted I am to it. Talk about withdrawal symptons.

Kinda nervous about this interview on Monday...this shit is so crucial it doesn't make any sense. Hope I get it.

I thank my mom everyday for hipping me to War (the band)...they are so forgotten but their music kicks all kinds of ass.

It's never good when a woman says she needs lots of attention, is it?

@ the two replies above this one

I'm out. I tried. When ya'll catch some manners I'll try to give a damn. Otherwise I'm tired trying to do shit for people who don't give a rat's shit.
