R.I.P. Virgil Abloh. Off-White founder and longtime Ye and Drake collaborator dies of Cancer at age 41

Virgil Abloh (/ˈæbloʊ/; September 30, 1980 - November 28, 2021) was an American designer, entrepreneur, and DJ who has been the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection since March 2018. Abloh was also the chief executive officer of the Milan-based label Off-White, a fashion house he founded in 2012.

A trained architect, Abloh, who also worked in Chicago street fashion, entered the world of international fashion with an internship at Fendi in 2009 alongside American rapper Kanye West. The two then began an artistic collaboration that would launch Abloh's career into founding Off-White. The first American of African descent to be artistic director at a French luxury fashion house,[1] he was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.[2]

Abloh passed away of cancer, which he had reportedly been battling privately for years, on November 28th, 2021.

Virgil Abloh, the prolific fashion designer known for styling stars like Kanye West and Kid Cudi, has died after a private battle with cancer. He was 41.

Abloh's death was announced in a tweet by LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton, where Abloh had been the creative director of the brand's menswear collection since 2018.

"We are shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and a great wisdom," LVMH's CEO Bernard Arnault said in the tweeted statement.

The statement said Abloh had been privately battling cancer for the last several years.

Abloh was also the chief executive officer of the Milan-based label Off-White.
