R.I.P. to Rob Reiner - Two found dead at home of Rob Reiner; homicide detectives on the scene

Not to derail the thread but this (briefly) addresses the discussion about All in the Family and how it was and should be perceived.

Carroll O'Connor is the TV GOAT IMO.

I'm pretty sure Rob Reiner talked about him as an influence and listening to all these Rob clips the past couple of days and listening to Carroll here, you see similarities.

I never knew about RR's son issues but one similarity that just occurred to me now is that Carroll O'Connor's son also had drug issues that ruined his life. From Wikipedia:

On March 28, 1995, O'Connor's son Hugh died by suicide after a long-time struggle with drug addiction. Following his son's death, O'Connor appeared in public service announcements for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and spent the rest of his life working to raise awareness about drug addiction. O'Connor also successfully lobbied the state of California to pass legislation allowing family members of an addicted person or anyone injured by a drug dealer's actions, including employers, to sue for reimbursement for medical treatment, rehabilitation costs and other economic and noneconomic damages. The law, known as the Drug Dealer Civil Liability Act, went into effect in 1997. It is also referred to as the Hugh O'Connor Memorial Law. The act is based on the 1992 Model Drug Dealer Liability Act, which has been passed in 17 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Cases have been brought under the act in states such as California, Illinois, and Utah.
His son's suicide inspired him to start a crusade against the man who had sold the drugs to Hugh. He called Harry Perzigian "a partner in murder" and a "sleazeball", and Perzigian countered with a defamation lawsuit against O'Connor. In 1997, a California jury decided in O'Connor's favor. In an interview on CNN's Larry King Live soon after the verdict, O'Connor said that he would never be able to put his son's death behind him, saying: "I can't forget it. There isn't a day that I don't think of him and want him back and miss him, and I'll feel that way until I'm not here anymore."

The foundation of the MAGA base? You think people like that didn't exist prior to All in the Family?

Yes, his character would be MAGA today and is an earlier version-- the segregationists who existed in real life, which doesn't revolve around Donald Trump. This shit was around way before Trump became president and Archie Bunker was a realistic character who reflected the times.

This is all true and everyone knows it. Bunker was famously a bigot. No argument there.

The white guy who created the show hated people like Archie. So did Carol O'Connor and Rob Reiner. But they were all dumb and put on a show that was successful because of people who disagreed with them?

The joke was always on Archie in the end. "Meathead" won almost every argument, Lionel Jefferson got the best of every exchange. But white people only watched because they related to Archie? And they liked seeing him lose arguments and get clowned every week?

I can say he was pre-maga but its all the same shit...its archie's core belief's that are still in effect till this very day the life that BOB, that
works in the auto plant or bill that works just like archie down at the warehouse the same m-f's that dont like change that dont like no
one other then them the same one's that think there are going to work the same job till they retire that lives the white basic life...hell if the
world wasnt now so far advanced these maga m-f's would have us back to driving '55' buicks again and watching tv on the UHF band...
archie didnt care if he lost an argument that why those maga rally video's are so funny they dont know they are stupid and just dont care ..

I was just thinking about something, what would California have to do to prevent Donald Trump from pardoning Nick Reiner? I can see that wicked motherfucker doing it

It's a state case Trump can't pardon him.

If he could he would have done so in New York to remove his 34 felonies.
