Prince's female protege track record..how's he done?

Another chick who came under Prince's wing was Dale Bozzio. She was also well established before with Frank Zappa and then Missing Persons (who I did see in the mid-80s). She had a record with his Paisley Park label on which he wrote a few songs. I had it way back when. It wasn't bad.

He actually tried rapping himself, and had some wack rapper in the NPG who performed on "Get Off". But I think one of the reasons he fell off is because he never really adapted to the rise of hip-hop in the late 80s and early 90s.

He fell off??????? :confused::rolleyes:

yeah I remember that...:lol: now that I think about it prince never really respected rap music..here's a dude who can play damn near 20 instruments many self taught so the idea of sampling and talking in syncopation to a beat must seem like romper room to him. :smh:

In popularity, and as a musical innovator.

But if it's so simple, then he should be able to master it. Truth is, good hip-hop isn't as easy to do as people make it out to be.

tight..typical prince performance...only hitch was his guitar wasn't plugged in for the first fast song..:giggle:

but lets be honest who really believes that we're going to hear from his newest protege Lianne La Havas beyond doing his songs?? his history isn't good in that regard...

Lianne La Havas isn't a Prince protege. She had a career before they met. She did some collabos, but she's still her own artist.

I think OP makes a valid point. However, the fact of the matter is that several of those protege's got out of the biz due to personal reasons as opposed to be non successful. TBH, Prince usually only puts you in a position for you to "DO WHAT YOU DO". He has never been a "HOLD YOUR HAND" type of mentor/producer. With that said, in that manner, his track record is pretty good.

This!

Here's a better question? Who had the funkiest song out of all his female proteges?

1.) Vanity "Nasty Girl" hands down!
2.) Sheila E "Erotic City"
3.) Appolonia "Sex Shooter" honorable mention
4.) Sheena Easton "Sugar Walls" honorable mention
5.) The Family "The Screams Of Passion" not a female act but that song was the shit!
6.) Mazzerati "100 Miles Per Hour". not a female act but that shit was banging too:lol:
