“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
- Epicurus

Translation:
  • If God is all-good (omni-benevolent), He must want to prevent evil and suffering.
  • If God is all-powerful (omnipotent), He must have the ability to prevent evil and suffering.
  • If evil and suffering exist, then the traditional conclusion is that God is either:
    1. Willing to stop evil, but unable to do so (meaning He is not all-powerful).
    2. Able to stop evil, but unwilling to do so (meaning He is not all-good).
    3. Neither able nor willing.
    4. Non-existent.
