It was because of the pandemic and It wasn't even the retailers decision, It was Sony's. I've brought all my Consoles Instore at launch since PS1 all the way up to the switch for my kids. some I was in line overnight others I went to the store with cash and preordered in August to pick it up the launch date. It was no different than when Nike releases new Jordans or apple does iphones. usually what they did was a employee would come out the store 6:30/7:00am handout tickets for the stock they have and tell those with tickets to comeback at 10am.

Walmart and target stopped putting inventory in store after their employees kept being harassed and threatened.
I camped out in early December to get a ps5 from Walmart myself.
There is a reason why brickseek stopped showing inventory for these stores.

In all honesty the both of y'all are right... I wasn't about to stand in anybody's line overnight for a PS5 so the online approach was ideal for me... Got lucky and secured one from Kohl's and Best Buy online the day after Thanksgiving... The Kohl's joint got cancelled, they oversold what they actually had, but my Best Buy one was secure... I wasn't comfortable with that so I tried for a Walmart joint, got lucky a week later and secured another one... Was able to secure 2 online before Christmas all while many retailers were still doing in-store buys too... Scooped my final PS5 from Amazon early January, but by this time I think the in-store buys were donezo...

Once it goes live press add to cart on each tab and then refresh all tabs at the same time after you get the error that it wasn't added.
Repeat this process until you get the captcha.
I will have a browser opened for each bundle I want, and each browser will have 4-5 tabs of the bundle I want.

Update: just copped the 1TB, the 2TB Is still out of stock. Did the 2 day shipping so It's about 11 more plus tax. I all ready got a WD 4T hard drive for PS5 so the 1TB is fine. How many PS5 games you think we'll get out of !TB, maybe like 3 or 4?

Well you figure 1TB plus the what is it 850GB storage with the system that should be enough. Once I finish a game I delete it and trade it in anyways but it was important to have more storage without having to swap on a hard drive with Far Cry 6, Call of Duty, Hockey and Horizon in February coming out.
