Palm Pre Owners Step This Way

Anybody have problems not being able to install patches after the update ? none of the patches seem to want to install. I crashed the phone earlier and had to use webos doctor to restore it....fucking around and had Itunes and Songbird running at the same time. i guess both programs were trying to get @ the phone and fucked it up. I used WEBOS doctor to recover the phone and had to reinstall the latest update over again. Now the patches won't install, even in dev mode. Phnoe runs better though. Lost some booty pic and music but I wanted to take all that shit off anyway.

My homebrew apps work but my "regular" apps come up with an exclamation point and a message pops up saying the download failed. Check over here and see if they have a solution to your problem: http://forums.precentral.net/webos-internals/199090-preware-228.html

I had that isssue. It looks like the update was trying to move your regular apps & stalled. I did a partial reset on mine to resolve that issue. Make sure you back up your data before doing the partial reset. You'll have to re-install your homebrew apps but the regular apps will come down with your palm profile.

Nah, all that wasn't necessary for me. I just had to install that Emergency Migration Helper tool in Preware and that did the trick.

 It took all this time for 1,000? :smh:

come on dude, how many are you really using though

I hate that argument

my girl has an iphone and most of those apps are bullshit

hell most of them on the pre are bullshit too

but you get the point

That's not including homebrew apps though.

the phone is only 6 months old and the apps store added the ability to sell apps about 3 months.... I say 1000 apps in that time frame ain't that bad.

everytime i try and install an patch from Preware i keep gettin this error installing. See IPKG Log any clues thanks

True one or 2 apps from different developer is fine they need to work, and be feature rich. I personally don't do much gaming on my phone, but plenty of games and useful apps are better than 100.000 apps that are of no use. you can't load 100,000 apps on a Iphone anyway.

Maddcat's Palm Pre wish list

A full featured Facebook app. Friendsbook is close but not quite and Facebook for Palm is worthless. IMO

A full featured MySpace app. Nuff said

LastFM wayyy better than Pandora.

Video Precorder is still in Alpha and I fear they are gonna make it a pay app. Should of had it from the start.

Opera and FF mobile in development for other mobile devices

My Teather fucking sucks that you can't teather your laptop....is my teather still avalible ?

Did you update to WebOS 1.3.5 before removing your patches and themes? You probably need to delete and reinstall Preware and the Package Manager, but I'm not sure. Check out Precentral because the problem you're having was a common issue.

Quake-pre.png

What a difference a day makes. As of yesterday, the biggest recent news from the webOS Internals global team was the launch of Doom and a video of a non-playable version of Quake. Today, there are three new announcements from webOS Internals:

First, Quake is now playable, with keymaps developed with help from user Jack87. As with the updated Doom, Quake launches through an icon rather than needing any typed commands in Terminal. The more complicated movements make Quake a bit more challenging to maneuver, but movement and sound work quite well. Both Quake and Doom are available via Preware.

Second, on the webOSInternals YouTube channel, the team has posted a video of a demo OpenGL application (a triangle containing moving concentric circles) by bpadalino, further proof that Palm has enabled this graphic functionality in webOS 1.3.5, and hinting at upcoming gaming possibilities that are even further confirmed by…

The third announcement, via Rod Whitby’s PreCentral forum post this morning where he details his discovery of a method for installing and running native Linux applications without the need for add-on services like webOSInternals’ own Upstart Manager Service. Rod points out that the ability to launch native Linux apps within webOS has implications well beyond gaming, in terms of advanced homebrew application development beyond that enabled by Palm’s current SDK. (PalmInfocenter posted a simpler explanation of what Rod and his colleagues discovered here.)

If you were a gambling man (or lady), and you were to bet against Palm preparing to announce native game development options for their Linux-based webOS, then your correspondent reckons you would soon be a very broke gambling man (or lady). The discovery of SDL's inclusion in webOS 1.3.5 really should have been enough evidence for you that something big was brewing, but destinal and Rod Whitby's (of WebOS Internals) latest discovery is proof positive: webOS 1.3.5 also includes a method for launching native Linux applications without any of the Upstart hackery we reported on yesterday.

How's it done? Rather simply, actually. All a developer needs to do is install the application's files and include a webOS-standard appinfo.json file, which tells webOS everything about a particular app. By setting the type to "game" and pointing to a binary executable (rather than the usual index.html a typical webOS app is based around) webOS 1.3.5 will happily throw your new native, SDL-based Linux program into a card, ready to do your bidding.

So there you have it. Fully-integrated native apps on webOS are a go - and within seven months of launch, we might add. (For the record, the iPhone took a year to get there and Android nearly two.) Need For Speed on the Pre doesn't seem quite so far-fetched anymore, now does it?

Palm’s CES 2010 event is scheduled for this coming Thursday, and based on what the webOSInternals folks are discovering literally every day, 2010 looks to be a very exciting time both for webOS developers and for the users who have benefitted from their innovation.

I switched from the Pre to TMobile and I got the Nexus One. I dont regret the move but I must admit that Palm is really working hard and providing fire for its customers. Really impressive for such a short period of time with Web OS

so Verizon gets the Pre we shouldve have gotten all along

man this shit pisses me off

Sprint stays losing and theyre about to lose me too

nah, mobile to mobile is the shit

how does android feel compared to webos?

They didn't fuck Sprint, they were broke.

Sprint and Palm used each other, Sprint got an exclusive device and Palm made some money as well as got some attention for their OS.

Palm did the same thing with the Treo 700w which went to Verizon first and when Sprint got it they got the 700xw which literally stood for extra memory because it had more ram.

sprint will most likely get the preII first with pre owners elgible for upgrades in a year it would be silly for them not to

the palm pre ain't that big of a deal for me to be mad. I dont even use the full 8gbs I have now.

I wouldn't be suprised if Sprint got the Pre Plus later on...

Since it looks like WebOS is shaping up to something good, I might stay. Android is very good, but I'm going to miss the gesture area, I already know it. That gesture area and card system makes WebOS unique... all we need is the quality apps now.

how does android feel compared to webos?

Sorry about the late response. Android does feel similar to web OS. I have to admit the Web Os is alot more user friendly and cleaner. I felt a little more connected with my Pre. People don't realize that web OS is the same if not better with synching you to your gmail, hotmail and yahoo. The thing that drew me away from the Pre was the buold quality of the phone. I could not take it anymore. Felt very cheap.

I Finally Bought my first App and need for speed is the shit great graphics no slow downs controls work great and the movie style cut scences were a nice touch cant wait for rock band

man wifi tethering is the shit

i like my pre, ill like it a helluva lot more when 1.4 comes out

posting from a hotel right now
