everytime I try to use the Update app... it keeps saying "can't connect right now. try again later"
I'm waiting until Thursday to apply the patch until I can get a new connection card.
I'm using mytether and this update stops the WiFi use unless you're using the paid version of the app.

If you used preware just go to the patch and remove it.
The only one that I had was the virtual keyboard which I just went into and removed.
New firmware released yesterday, showed up on my phone today. no more deafening "call dropped" or "event notification" alerts!!!

^^^ Good info. All we need now is SMS & MMS forwarding, video recording ability & actual IM apps to be where it needs to be. These are very nice updates though.
there's a tweak for SMS and MMS forwarding... we just have to wait until WebOS Quick Install gets updated for 1.2. I was using it for awhile before the 1.2 OS update.
Also someone is working on making the built-in instant messenger having the ability to hold all the instant messengers like windows live, facebook, etc...
I finally decided to use the built-in messenger for AIM and Googlechat... and I just linked all the screen names to a contact to solve that problem of it putting all the SNs in your contact book.

Seems like a decent number of Pres are getting the crached screen. It seems to be a defect in the structual integrity of the screen.....
So I called Sprint at a sprint store....was on hold for a very long time. Talked to one chick who couldnt help me, got her employee info, asked for her manager's name and to speak with her....
Evidenty when Sprint gave ma a discount for the warranty taking it from 7 to 4 dollars....They didnt keep both policies (stolen/lost covereage and damage coverage.)
As a result the store told me I could pay 100 dollar deductible or drive to St. Louis to the corporate office and get it for free (St. Louis is an hour away) I say hell naw to that and tell her to just credit my account and give me the other insurance for the additional four dollars per month. She agrees.
They are next daying me a new pre....should arrive today.

Palm Pre's New Strategy: Forget iTunes, Hello Wireless Amazon Downloads
When the Palm Pre debuted, one of its most useful features was its ability to sync with Apple's iTunes software. Unfortunately, how it went about doing this was a little bit underhanded: it pretended to be an iPhone. The most recent version of the hack - yes, there were several - was made possible by Palm's use of Apple's USB hardware vendor code provided by the USB Implementers Forum, an industry standards group. The Pre simply used Apple's code so that iTunes would see the Pre as an Apple device. Apple of course, was not happy, and purposefully broke this functionality in subsequent iTunes software updates. Palm responded by complaining to the Forum, but the group took Apple's side.
Now, finally, the Apple/Palm war seems to have ended. With the latest update to Palm Pre's webOS software, the company has come up with a new tactic altogether: forget about iTunes, use Amazon instead.
Palm vs. Apple
The back-and-forth between Apple and Palm was getting ugly. A cat and mouse game transpired involving hacks, crippling updates from Apple, and then re-hacks from Palm which did nothing for either company's image. Some felt that Apple had every right to protect their software from being used with other devices - after all, if something went wrong with Pre syncing, consumers could easily blame Apple's software for the troubles. They may even call in for support, not understanding that Apple wouldn't be able to handle issues arising from the use of a competitor's hardware.
Others, however, felt that Apple should open up. With their dominance over the entire digital media player industry, keeping their proprietary software a closed system was a way to make sure that no up-and-comers could ever have a shot at becoming a popular alternative to the iPod or iPhone. Palm, of course, felt this way, too. They complained to the USB-IF saying that consumers should have a right to decide how they use the media they purchase. That is, if they bought content from iTunes, they should be able to sync it to the Pre.
The USB-IF did not agree, though. They sent letters to both companies explaining that Palm's use of Apple's USB vendor code actually violated the group's rules and would need to end. Clearly, Palm lost this round, too - but don't count them out just yet.
Palm Releases webOS 1.2
Yesterday, Palm released an update of the Pre software, webOS. While most of the reporting surrounding the new OS involved the important update which brings paid applications to the Pre's App Catalog, another under-reported feature is actually just as (if not more) important. The Pre now lets you download over-the-air from Amazon's MP3 Store.
According to the Official Palm Blog, the Amazon integration now works over both WAN or Wi-Fi, meaning that you don't need to be hooked up to a PC via USB to purchase music on your Pre. You can do so directly from the device, just like Apple iPod Touch and iPhone users can do through Apple's mobile iTunes Store. Although the iTunes experience overall may have been the preferable option for many users, Amazon at least provides a viable alternative for Pre owners. Amazon's online catalog may still be a few million short of that of Apple's, but often their prices are much more affordable thanks to daily deals and albums that start at $4.99.
While Palm hasn't officially responded to the USB-IF's letter - despite being told they had to do so within a week - it seems that they have, without actually saying so, made their decision. The latest update's release notes do not mention iTunes syncing, and, as many expected, it has not been re-enabled.
It looks like Palm Pre has given up the fight for good, now betting entirely on Amazon. The company's original plan to sync with iTunes was a calculated risk and one which now leaves consumers holding the short end of the stick. How many Pre owners bought the Pre because it synced with iTunes? How many are angry or disappointed because it doesn't now? It may have been better if Palm never went this route to begin with and worked on making the Amazon integration the key selling point from day one. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. However, their decision may end up having a major impact on the company's future, considering they've essentially bet the farm on webOS, ending support for devices running both the original Palm OS and Windows Mobile. Will giving up on iTunes impact device sales for the struggling company? Or will extricating themselves from this nasty war with Apple end up being the best thing they could have done?

Now, finally, the Apple/Palm war seems to have ended. With the latest update to Palm Pre's webOS software, the company has come up with a new tactic altogether: forget about iTunes, use Amazon instead.
Palm vs. Apple
The back-and-forth between Apple and Palm was getting ugly. A cat and mouse game transpired involving hacks, crippling updates from Apple, and then re-hacks from Palm which did nothing for either company's image. Some felt that Apple had every right to protect their software from being used with other devices - after all, if something went wrong with Pre syncing, consumers could easily blame Apple's software for the troubles. They may even call in for support, not understanding that Apple wouldn't be able to handle issues arising from the use of a competitor's hardware.
Others, however, felt that Apple should open up. With their dominance over the entire digital media player industry, keeping their proprietary software a closed system was a way to make sure that no up-and-comers could ever have a shot at becoming a popular alternative to the iPod or iPhone. Palm, of course, felt this way, too. They complained to the USB-IF saying that consumers should have a right to decide how they use the media they purchase. That is, if they bought content from iTunes, they should be able to sync it to the Pre.
The USB-IF did not agree, though. They sent letters to both companies explaining that Palm's use of Apple's USB vendor code actually violated the group's rules and would need to end. Clearly, Palm lost this round, too - but don't count them out just yet.
Palm Releases webOS 1.2
Yesterday, Palm released an update of the Pre software, webOS. While most of the reporting surrounding the new OS involved the important update which brings paid applications to the Pre's App Catalog, another under-reported feature is actually just as (if not more) important. The Pre now lets you download over-the-air from Amazon's MP3 Store.
According to the Official Palm Blog, the Amazon integration now works over both WAN or Wi-Fi, meaning that you don't need to be hooked up to a PC via USB to purchase music on your Pre. You can do so directly from the device, just like Apple iPod Touch and iPhone users can do through Apple's mobile iTunes Store. Although the iTunes experience overall may have been the preferable option for many users, Amazon at least provides a viable alternative for Pre owners. Amazon's online catalog may still be a few million short of that of Apple's, but often their prices are much more affordable thanks to daily deals and albums that start at $4.99.
While Palm hasn't officially responded to the USB-IF's letter - despite being told they had to do so within a week - it seems that they have, without actually saying so, made their decision. The latest update's release notes do not mention iTunes syncing, and, as many expected, it has not been re-enabled.
It looks like Palm Pre has given up the fight for good, now betting entirely on Amazon. The company's original plan to sync with iTunes was a calculated risk and one which now leaves consumers holding the short end of the stick. How many Pre owners bought the Pre because it synced with iTunes? How many are angry or disappointed because it doesn't now? It may have been better if Palm never went this route to begin with and worked on making the Amazon integration the key selling point from day one. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. However, their decision may end up having a major impact on the company's future, considering they've essentially bet the farm on webOS, ending support for devices running both the original Palm OS and Windows Mobile. Will giving up on iTunes impact device sales for the struggling company? Or will extricating themselves from this nasty war with Apple end up being the best thing they could have done?

Last time I tried that tweak, my text messaging app wouldn't open. We'll see what happens this time after the update.there's a tweak for SMS and MMS forwarding... we just have to wait until WebOS Quick Install gets updated for 1.2. I was using it for awhile before the 1.2 OS update.
Also someone is working on making the built-in instant messenger having the ability to hold all the instant messengers like windows live, facebook, etc...
I finally decided to use the built-in messenger for AIM and Googlechat... and I just linked all the screen names to a contact to solve that problem of it putting all the SNs in your contact book.

WebOS Quick Install v2.7 with webOS 1.2.1 Support Released
After almost a week of delays, the much-requested WebOS 1.2.1-compatible release of WebOS Quick Install is finally released. And boy what an update (and I say that completely unbiased *wink*).
This update included a lot of code rewrites and changing the patching system one last time, with the patching system integrated through the program. Just take a look at this change log:

Preware gains patching abilities, LED notifications in the mix
Our man jp22382 has pointed out that webOS Internals.org now has its own patches IPKG feed that lets you install webOS patches over the air with minimal fuss, including the LED notifications that Palm didn’t turn on for us in webOS 1.2. To get the patches you’ll have to follow these steps:
* In Preware (installed via webOS Quick Install), select Available Applications and drop down to the IPKG category.
* Select autopatch-feed.
* Click install.
* Close and relaunch Preware.
You’ll now have a new feed in Preware that will provide dozens more patches. Right now not all patches have been updated for compatibility with webOS 1.2, so you should reference webOS Internals’ compatibility table to ensure that what you want to install won’t bork your Pre. You can also see dbSooner's list in our forums as well. Developers are quickly testing and updating patches so that they’ll work with 1.2, and so far most favorites (battery percentage, launcher pages, etc) have already received the 1.2 blessing.
* To install the LED notifications patch, in Preware click on Available Patches, then Screen Lock.
* Select Enables LED Notifications.
* Click install. You’ll have to approve a warning because the patch must run a script to install.

Adobe Flash 10.1 Announced and Demo'd on the Pre
We've known since February that the WebOS and Palm Pre would be getting Adobe Flash by the end of 2009. Well, it's October and although we've heard things we still on track, the lack of news certainly did seem a bit troubling... until today.
Today Adobe made their big Flash Player 10.1 announcement, mostly confirming what we already knew:
Adobe Systems Incorporated today unveiled Adobe Flash Player 10.1 software for smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, PCs and other Internet-connected devices, allowing content created using the Adobe Flash Platform to reach users wherever they are. A public developer beta of the browser-based runtime is expected to be available for Windows® Mobile, Palm® webOS and desktop operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and Linux later this year.
Certainly encouraging talk there; it's nice to see the WebOS mentioned specifically. What's even more interesting is the press release then continues going on, mentioning how Flash 10.1 is able to utilize the GPU for better performance. Whether that means this means the WebOS version will use the GPU is not mentioned, but that'd certainly be a good way to make flash less CPU-intensive.
In addition, Adobe has posted a video demonstration of Flash 10.1 on the Pre. It's definitely worth a watch. Seems to support the WebOS pretty well. We previously heard device orientation and multi-touch is supported, but now we know Flash is integrated to save its state before switching to card view, saving processing power (and thus battery power) and giving an overall better user experience.
Although this demonstration only showed pretty basic examples of flash usage, it's still pretty exiting and could have far reaching future implications. If flash were done successfully, with GPU support, it certainly wouldn't be too difficult to make flash-based WebOS apps.

Does anyone know if the problem with space allocated for apps has been resolved? There are a good number of apps available from both the app store & homebrew inventory so it would suck to not be able to install some because of a lack of available space.
Did any one else see how the battery was fully charged when he was usin it by the time he was done it was in the RED shit i hope its nit like that

With more than 100 apps now available for download from the webOS App Catalog and some 200 odd apps from the PreCentral Homebrew Gallery, more and more Pre users are running into a frustrating error: Sorry, Not Enough Memory. “What do you mean, not enough memory?” you promptly asked the phone. “You have 8 GB of storage, I have 50 apps. This doesn't add up.”
You're right, it doesn't add up. There has been a lot of confusion about how this is limited and we’re going to do our best to explain the situation. First off, there is no numerical limit on how many apps you can install, so don’t fret that you’ve hit some magical barrier. The problem comes with how Palm decided to protect applications from copying by end users, and that was to put them in a hidden partition that doesn’t show when you mount the Pre as a USB drive on your computer. The problem with partitions is that they are a set size and difficult to resize, which means that once Palm set the size of the partitions on the Pre, those were the partitions we were stuck with.
We'll take a closer look at the limit and also explain what needs to be done to fix it (hint: you can try to hack it, but what we need is a fix from Palm)
If you don't do a manual update then the phone does it for you after a certain amount of time.

I havent done shit to my pre yet. I dl that "drop file here to install" program but I am afraid to use it in fear of it messing up my tether. I could reinstall my tether easily but dont feel like it. What apps are out there that are worth risking a download for. My tether is the best app out right now. Anything out there that even comes close?
Is there away to erase these bullshit apps like nascar?
Is there away to make the phone answer by sliding open the phone?
