A man who failed to disclose his HIV status to multiple women with whom he had relationships has been jailed for two years.
Gentry Burns, of Port Orange, Florida, was sentenced on Thursday to one count of uninformed HIV-infected sexual intercourse. Local media WESH said that two other counts of the same felony charge had been dropped.
Burns pleaded no contest to the charge, and was also sentenced to 12 months of probation upon his release.
Local authorities launched an investigation into Burns’s activity in October, 2019, after an ex-girlfriend told authorities that she believed she contracted HIV from him when the pair dated in 2013.
A statement from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said: “The victim had been reaching out to contact other women who were dating Burns in an attempt to warn them.
“She also provided detectives with the names of other women she believed Burns could have infected.”
Through subpoenaed medical records, detectives determined that Burns was diagnosed as HIV-positive in January 2014.
They also identified three victims who cooperated with the investigation, confirming they dated Burns and engaged in sexual activity without knowing that he was HIV-positive. One of the three tested positive for the virus in 2017 after dating Burns in 2016.
The statement added: “It’s believed that Gentry Burns travelled extensively along the East Coast of the United States and may have had contact with additional victims in other states.”
Detectives requested that anyone who believed that they could have been unknowingly infected by Burns contact the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Wile already in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail on unrelated charges, the 27-year-old was charged with three felony counts for the offence.
Florida is among the 21 US states where people, who are aware of an HIV-positive status, are required by law to disclose their status to any sexual partners. Potential penalties for failing to do so range from less than one year’s imprisonment to life behind bars. In Florida, the maximum sentence for the offence is a five-year jail term.

A woman waving a Trump 2024 flag caused a security scare after she drove onto the Minnesota Capitol Mall in St Paul on Monday.
“Wild scene at the Minnesota State Capitol as a woman drives her vehicle onto the south mall, waving a Trump flag,” Theo Keith, a political reporter at KMSP-TV/FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul, reported on Twitter.
The woman disrupted a press conference being held by Democratic State Representative John Thompson and his supporters at the Capitol building.
Footage of the incident showed the woman fleeing across the south lawn of the Mall before she was stopped on Martin Luther King Boulevard by police in unmarked squad cars.
According to local media reports, she shouted: “I am a white woman! There is only one race!” at state troopers after she was arrested.
Newsweek reported that the woman was held by Capitol security officials at the scene until paramedics and mental health specialists arrived.
Demonstrators reportedly complained that the woman was given special treatment because she was white.
“White privilege! White privilege! Treat her like she’s Black! Put her in handcuffs!” the demonstrators reportedly shouted.

Looking back, I don't think Lexx meant for his initial reply to be in this thread! It was probably meant for my Nancy Pelosi thread.
But a few things:
- I think America is in the process of trying to racially "absorb" it's Black population, but it is slow-going because of the previous 300+ years of overt racial hostility to our population. This process of "absorption" will naturally require a significant segment of the white population to be open to it. The goal is to create a class of people that, while not being "white", are also no longer "black."
- While many Hispanics are "white", they're also coming from countries and cultures where race-mixing was accommodated to degree.
- As a group, some can be used to buttress the declining native white population while others can be used to absorb the Black population.
- If you understand this process of absorption and assimilation, it will help explain a lot of what you see going on in American society today, from gentrification to general immigration to Black immigration to the Black "gender war" to Trumpism. I could elaborate further but it's better suited to a separate thread or the Pelosi thread.

Over a decade ago, I got put in diversity training for putting my hands on a white boy at work when I was living in Atlanta. He was in the wrong, but i still had to eat shit or go blind. I could never be blind...anyway, i remember the results of a survey they gave us.
It asked a large sample each of the four major racial groups which other group do you feel most culturally similar to and which group do you feel most unlike (paraphrasing):
The Likes:
A majority of Whites said Blacks were most culturally like them (go figure)
A majority of Blacks said mexicans were most like them.
A majority of Mexicans said whites were most like them. The rest identified with Blacks
A majority of Asians said whites were most like them. A minority identified with Blacks

The White response surprised me. The fact that all the groups identified with Blacks at some level did not surprise me. This meant to me that Black are the potential ambassadors of bringing all the groups together. Think Jesse Jackson's rainbow coalition or Obama's version.
I really think that the racial scapegoating of the republicans & democrats since Reagan is the reason for trumpism. And it is a last grasp of futility. They madd cause they privilege is disappearing, the rug been plugged from under their feet and they part of the 99% with the rest of us. They did it to themselves by being goated against black people and cosigning economic & political policies that hurt us but was also bad for the majority of all peoples.
I think we gonna have a Black female president in this decade. If Biden fuck around and pass, we might have one within the next four years.
