Osaka withdraws from French Open

Oh well @BrownTurd now what?
You know how it goes. The media or press was never the issue. If you look at the videos I recently posted, she was troubled for a long time. The people that are at fault is her team. I get it, her team probably cashing some dam good checks, but I find it very hard to believe they were not aware of her issues.

People like Nike, her team, and sponsors will bleed you dry and then dip when you no longer profitable. Then leave you in a fuck up state. Hopefully someone in her camp is not a yes man and sits her down.

If the job is to stressful then simply leave.

We all know how important it is in professional sports for athletes to be accessible to the media and how it promotes the sport.

You can’t just walk in an accept a check from people and not follow the rules. The rules clearly state that you must do press.

At that point you have a choice. Either do press or walk away like she did. For me, I would never leave money on the table for a 10 min press conference.
Dude, SHE PAID THE FINE. That was the condition of not doing the post game interview.
They then tried to guilt trip her over it.
Like someone said earlier, you keep making this about what you would do. Nobody cares if you would leave money on the table or not because you are not Naomi Osaka and you obviously didn't make $37M this year. She is not broke, so the money ain't shit to her. You talk like a damn interview is is netting her millions or something. Its not. She didn't lose any endorsements. As a matter-of-fact, her sponsors backed her. What's all this money she's leaving?
So, she paid the little $15k.
Her sponsors backed her move.
Apparently, the only ones bitching are the press, who ain't shit, and you cats backing the press.
Seems like all of y'all just want to see her fail.
If she quits and Serena doesn't pick up the slack to draw attention to tennis, the ratings for that shit is going to bottom out like a bad muffler on a truck.
They know this. If Serena ain't playing and Naomi ain't playing, ain't nobody checking for tennis outside of the SMALL, normal tennis crowd.

Bullshit.
They are exactly the issue.
She has no problem playing tennis.
There is no debating that.
Her problem is anxiety, not the sport of tennis.
And quit with the "interviews are part of the game" crap.
How many points do you get for the interview?
She is ill fam. Blaming the media or press is not fair as they have always been nice to her. It appears she can handle the fame but struggles with "Criticism"

It seems like she judges herself to harshly. Even in wins, she feels like she hurt the other person simply because she won.

She handles it quite well....just doesn't feel she can handle talking to the press for a little while.
Not the first or the last(steve Carlton, Eddie Murray) and won't be the last. She probably should have just skipped the French from jump and avoided the mess, but the org probably should have handled it better too.
...but being a great pro and talking to the media aren't necessarily connected at the hip.

If she can’t handle being a professional athlete she needs to fine something to do

Well, like you said, her team knew that going in.
Everyone that is good at something is not meant to be famous. The greatest musicians on the planet are not the most famous ones. They tend to be stars in niche markets of music like jazz or classical, where they get less attention.

The thing is, tennis needs a Naomi Osaka or a Williams sister or it fades back into the background with golf, NASCAR and the other non-dominant sports. Naomi brings in money because she attracts people who normally don't give a fuck about tennis, or at least, not enough to watch it.
She paid her fine for not doing the interview.
It was the press that doubled down and tried to make it seem as if she killed a baby on live television.
So, I maintain that is its definitely their fault, not for asking for an interview, but for making a huge deal out of her not doing it. This was them trying to make an example of her as a warning to others who might try it in the future but it is backfiring miserably on them.

You have to do press, their is no other option. Which is fair based on what they would be paying you. If someone is going to pay you multi-millions and they require you to do press, are they really asking to much?

Or.....do what you're great at....make a shitload of money....and when you don't want to talk to for a while, just pay the fine, then go make more money.

It is very simple. If people don’t want to do press conferences then don’t be a professional athlete.

To be able to retire at the age of 35 while creating generational wealth, yes I would spend 10 mins answering questions about a simple game.

Are we really arguing about at most 7 questions and 10 mins?

That's your right to do so. But others have the right to choose to not do business with you also

Sponsors are still backing her. Sponsors pay the big bucks. What press is paying her?
She paid the fine for skipping the press. If she pays the fines, its sorted.

Nope the event that is cutting check has the right to not fuck with you. It goes both ways

sure they can...depending on the subject of the issue....this one is mental health....now name a business or organization thats gonna ostracize the number 2 ranked athlete in a major sport who openly dealing with mental health issues in this day and age???

its about leverage homie and right now Naomie has more on her side than pro tennis.

as long as she stays elite level..wins more than loses and doesn't do something stupid she'll have more leverage on the issue than they do...

The real thing is OTHER ATHLETES who have similar issues need to speak out as well... news media whether its sports or anything else is more tabloid than serious journalism and has been for a long time...Osaka isn't the only one.

If they tried to kick her out over this, every sponsor would back out and you'd have to find tennis on the French carpentry channel at 3 a.m. in the morning.
Nobody is going to support bullying a woman who has worn her anxiety issues on her sleeve, is the #2 player in the sport and arguably the most popular at the moment. Social media alone would bury the French Open and every sponsor that sided with them.
The name of the game is MONEY, not tennis. Sponsors aren't there for their altruism, they are there to get PAID. They need to run those ads. Its pointless to run ads where nobody is watching.

We got to be honest without ourselves. The elevator not rising to the top in her. She didn’t need to be playing. She needs help. Does this look like someone who is stable?

It has nothing to do with the press or media. She is the problem. She needs help and should not play again until she gets it. The media babied her and she still folded. She really needs help

you clearly have no idea how depression and mental illness works....just stop cuz this point youre just trolling...badly :smh: :hmm: :smh: :hmm:

She followed the rules. They didn’t like the options the rule book and they overplayed their hand.

You’ve never made $50 million either so it is understandable why you would see it this way.

Her earning power actually increased.

Fines are always In lieu of suspension

Tennis needs her more than she needs tennis.

She has "go fuck yourself" levels of money with more on the way via endorsements.

They're going to need to decide if it's better for them to have her play and not do interviews or have her not play at all.

15 min and 20 min marks the press gets real disrespectful with these men....

now imagine how someone dealing with anxiety and depression may feel having to deal with this shit..
