Oil Rig Work Apparently Pays MAJOR Bread...

Good post ....
Im in South and sometimes West Texas...as a Truck driver
Average Truck driver pay starts around $65,000 and more if you dont just work 12 hour shifts and go home everyday as a company driver.
I just bought my own truck to Haul Frac sand after taking the time to find my place out here for the last two years and the average owner operator in the oil field hauling sand generates about $10,000 per week after expenses take home or about $5,000 on a decent week having said that its nothing to make about $20,000 per month after expenses.
There are a ton of jobs out here to be had by cats with low skills and no experience. You will be trained and have the opportunity to move around. Just get in the door and let the rest work itself out, the pay will be enough to make it all ok.....
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PPE !

You make 5 times more than I do, driving a fucking truck?

Wait!!! You bring home almost $250,000 dollars a year after taxes as a Truck driver?!!:eek::eek: WTF?!! That shit makes me want to go back and murder my high school guidance counselor!!! They never told me truckers make that much!

I bust my ass working a white collar job at JP Morgan, college degree and Microsoft certifications and I am barely making over 100K a year! Fuck my life!!

ok...final update...

so i didn't get the oil refinery gig..with chevron...valero..phillips 66...exxon/mobil...shell or tesoro...however...

i DID finally land a job in the process technology industry....

i'm now with the Department of Water & Power as a Steam Plant Assistant I .... starting pay is $27/hour....and it goes up about $2 every six months..until i max out at like $35/hour...

and they are basically gonna "force" me to promote to an SPA II..which tops out at $39/hour...and if i keep promoting to Control Room Operator and Supervisor...they top out at around $50/hour and $60/hour..respectively...

but i actually think this is a better gig..because there was a guy in my training class ..who was working at Chevron..as a refinery operator..and left that job to pursue this job...

my job has three rotating shifts...day shift..swing (or peak) shift..and graveyard...and its ten days on...4 days off...and when i work peak shift i get a 4% bump in my pay..and when i work graves i get a 7% bump...

and the healthcare plan...is fuckin' crazy...i pay nothing for it..no copays for doctor's visit..no charge for ambulance rides..no charge for ER visits..no charge for hospital stays...no charge for surgery...$5 copay on meds...

and if you're in the Los Angeles Area...they are looking for more people...cuz 50% of the workforce is gettin' ready to retire..so not only will you have a job..you will get promoted quickly...whether you wanna be or not...

if anyone has questions...i'll share what i can...because it's a long, arduous process to get hired...and it can be stressful at times...when you don't know where you stand..or what to expect next....

^I'm with you bro. I work for an electric utility and these old heads will be gone soon. I started on the nuclear side who make 150k no ot. They basically trained us to take their spot. I work in substations now, and it's even crazier over there. Get in while you can because it will be lots of opportunities for cats who have their shit together to go up in the company. You have to pimp these cats and get yours man. Good luck fam

@moblack @LordSinister @max-dawg and anyone else who has or is working in the oil industry

In the seven years since this post was made, how many people have contacted y'all, privately, that were serious in inquiring about getting a job? There's a thread over on the Coli and it's nothing but excuses about why they can't do the work because of being away for long periods of time, the long hours or too many cacs.

This is life changing money if you save and invest it correctly.

Cats are literally saying this is slave labor.

Not many. 12 hour shifts and being gone 1/2 the year is tough on younger cats with families. My wife and I are tight and my niece living with us is 20 so they can deal with me being gone.

Still the pay is still good despite the pay cut and I actually like the fact that I'm not doing even time. I still make enough that we're not stressing, we can vacation and do all the little things that make life special.

My next job is supposed to last a year or more so that's a nice chunk of change and stability.

I want to say 2 have contacted me. Since 2007 when I went into Operations I’ve had 4 people follow me to Process school. All 4 had Bachelors degrees too. One is an Operator, one is a cost analysis after 5 years being a I&E Tech, my Buddy never became an Operator but got into leak detection /manager, and my cousin never left his old job. I’ve moved into the midstream sector now and dress business casual now on days. It’s a wide open career field with a bunch of different lanes to get into. I’m training on something new but I’m planning on getting a degree in management and moving to another floor.

I don't know if someone asked this but what is the ideal age to make the transition to this profession?

ensco was hiring i did it for 3 years but i was on one of the slave ship rigs...its cold stacked now ....but driller tool pusher oim 200k and up....or make it up to a company man some of them making 300-400k a year working 2 weeks on and off...most of them were old men tho....
i only made 70ish a year working 3 weeks on 3 off

I wish somebody would have hipped me to this shit after Katrina when I was living part time in San Antonio.

After being laid off twice in three years, I had to change industries.
The oilfield is too cyclical.
It isn't just black folks getting laid off, its CACs too.
We’re in the middle of another slow period as we speak.
The money was great when everything was rolling.
I enjoyed it.
After 12 years, I’m done.

Last year my Refinery hired a guy who worked in the oil field. He said the exact same thing you just did. No shit. He is happy to have as steady on-land plant job that pays better money then when he was offshore. He's one of my hardest working coworkers. Pretty good guy too.

The shit can be rough and 2017 was a shit year for me. But I work out of the US and the wages are better. I knew the slowdown was coming so I saved my cash. My wife makes good money and that helps.

When things are going good I stacked money and got some property for investment. I still enjoy the work and the International travel.

This is what your day will look like being an Operator. No such thing as rain in a refinery. Long 12 hour day in and off. Hopefully you get your long change. Get on with a company learn your area and go make you some bread. Save to your 401k and don't live off overtime.

headed back to Africa again. A few locations got some of their wage cuts reversed. Things are in flux. Right now I'm decommissioning 15 Wells. Different work, but it's cool. The client is new and that makes it hard, and no chopper rides cause they are being cheap. So 3 1/2 hour boat ride instead with lifts in a basket to the main deck. Muslim country so no beer or pork allowed. Still, it's worth it to me.

Be safe out there. Its crazy when this thread was started I was in downstream. Now years later with my experience I've moved to the midstream sector and glad I did. No more nomex for me.

Exactly. I KNOW I'm built for better than this but I just have never been able to get my foot in the right door. For that matter I've never known where that door even was. And time is ticking. I'm wasting myself.

Sent from a gaffled Tapatalk.
Crazy. I felt like that since I left high school.
wasnt until i was 34 i finally got my foot i. The door

Did you ever get in the industry
Nope, texted for Exxon and Shell, passed both. Waited, interviewed went well but was never called back for Shell. Exxon I tried to get friend of friends who said they were gonna pull my app but never happened.

I have orientation for my Process Technology Cert. class next week and the actual classes start in April. After I get my certificate then I'm going to get my Process Technology, AAS. Told ya'll I wasn't playing. When you want something you gotta go out and get it.
Outcome?
