Oh god make it stop… predator prequel “prey”..predator vs native Americans

am I missing something?
Her whole argument is Prey and the Predator franchise is anti-black because predators have locks. Is there any other correlation or ‘anti-blackness’ in the film(s). It’s unfortunate that went with defining character design in 1987 but outside of that one choice (let me know if I am missing something) it’s the most progressive and diverse sci-fi/action franchise in history.

The 1st had 2 black leads and Native American. Carl Weathers character was the ranking officer. The black characters weren’t caricatures, had defined characterstics and were heroic.

the 2nd flick starred Danny Glover. He killed the Predator. He wasn’t the help, sidekick or comic relief

the 3rd and forth films had numerous black men in the cast including arguably the most talented black actor in the world right now and one of the greatest black actors ever

sana Lathan was the star of AVP

the original design was problematic but to say Prey is anti black, even though no black characters are in it seems like a reach

Fact is training day alien robocop almost ended the franchise and that’s why it took over a decade to get a new movie..when Arnold did it they wanted an automatic sequel.. when color purple did it they said well how about them aliens and ms weaver

i like the twist of the villain being a cop and the good guy being an alien crime fighter from outer space.. it showed that man’s biggest threat is ourselves and not some foreign/out of space entity.. good message from training day prequel..the consumer on the other hand wanted the predator to be a bad guy like in the first 1 and they wanted the hero to be a human like the first 1

They couldn't make a movie close to 2 after it
They felt they could easily top 1 and did

Had to wait till a new generation could be introduced to predator Danny shut it down

I enjoy the movie,I have no problem with Naru killing the Predator. At least, she was a good hunter and had training unlike a certain Jedi....

Now,where do I personally rank it among the franchise well I got the OG,Predator 2 and Prey in my top three. I actually like the 2018 version...lol

I hope they have a sequel in the works.

It’s coming…..

It’s making more sense why Warner Bros. is doing what it is doing.

Warner Bros. know they got some serious competition with Disney, with what they doing with Marvel, Star Wars and the Predator/Alien franchises.

Ridley Scott Producing New ‘Alien’ Movie for Hulu from ‘Don’t Breathe’ Director Fede Álvarez

The “Alien” universe just keeps getting bigger.

Earlier this month, news broke that Noah Hawley’s upcoming FX series based on Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, with Scott serving as an executive producer, would begin filming in 2023. Now, it appears that Scott still thinks there are still more “Alien” stories to tell, as he has signed on to produce a new film written and directed by Fede Álvarez.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will be based on an original pitch from Álvarez, who is best known for directing the 2016 horror flick “Don’t Breathe.” Many cinephiles view “Alien” as the quintessential science-fiction horror movie, but recent films in the franchise such as “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant” (both directed by Scott) have leaned decidedly towards the sci-fi side. With the horror-loving Álvarez’s involvement, it is probably a safe bet to assume that will balance out. While his horror chops will likely cause some screams that no one will hear, Alvarez has also demonstrated a unique knack for revamping dormant franchises. He directed 2013’s “Evil Dead” remake, and co-wrote and produced Netflix’s latest “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie.

According to sources in The Hollywood Reporter, “Álvarez is a rabid fan of the franchise and casually pitched a take to Scott many years ago. The idea remained implanted in Scott’s brain until late last year when he called Alvarez out of the blue and asked him if the younger filmmaker was still up for it.”

The film will stream on Disney-owned Hulu, with no theatrical plans in the cards just yet, but (also Disney-owned) 20th Century Studios says that is a feature, not a bug. 20th Century President Steve Asbell said Álvarez’s pitch “was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.” He said that the decision to release the film on Hulu is an artistic one, intended to allow Álvarez to realize his vision without box office pressure.

“It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets,” Asbell said of the film. “They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.”

There is currently no word on when the new “Alien” movie will begin filming or be released.

What's even better about this scene, Jesse Ventura's death usually would have been saved for the black character so that the white character(s) would go on this revenge kick, which was saved for Bill Duke..
A few days ago I watched a documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror and a commenter, a professor who studies horror, mentioned there's a trope where a Black character dies last just to make the monster they're fighting appear tougher. As in, "If it killed a black man, it must be tough."

That explains Yaphet Kotto's character being the last to die in Alien, Bill Duke's character in Predator, and Charles Dutton's character in Predator 3.

‘Prey’ Is Hulu’s Biggest Debut Ever, So ‘Prey 2’ Plans Begin To Form

Not only is Prey a shockingly good Predator prequel and a hell of an action movie, it now also holds the record for the best debut in streaming service Hulu’s entire history. Hulu is reporting that in its first three days of viewership, it has amassed more viewing hours than all of its TV series and movies over the same time period.

The last thing to hold that record was apparently The Kardashians, the reality series which became a Hulu exclusive after the original E! series ended. Prey also set records for Star+ and Disney+ in non-American regions where Hulu doesn’t exist.

Do you want actual numbers? Sorry, this is streaming, we don’t do those here. But the context of Prey’s performance raises three central questions:

1. If this movie was so good, why wasn’t it in theaters?

2. Surely this means Prey 2 will happen, right?

3. If Prey 2 exists, where will it debut?

Answers:

1. The idea of debuting big, blockbuster movies on streaming services has been a pretty hot topic of debate lately, and seems to be trending in opposing directions. You have a service like Netflix, which is determined to build movie “universes” out of pricey blockbusters like The Gray Man and Red Notice, full of A-list casts. But you also have HBO Max, where new management there has said it no longer makes any sense to develop movies for the streaming arm alone as opposed to theaters. In Prey’s case, they made this call, and it’s possible that in this current age of Top Gun and superhero movie domination, Prey may have been lost in theaters as opposed to setting these streaming records. So it seems like it worked out.

2. It would be pretty absurd for Prey not to get a sequel, Prey 2, after this, which would absolutely need to continue to star Amber Midthunder, who did a phenomenal job as the lead, and would certainly warrant becoming an iconic franchise character. Prey 2 is already starting to be teased by the original’s director, saying that the end titles were a hint about what could be coming in the future. The tease there, which is easy to miss, shows a short animation of multiple Predator ships heading to earth after Naru is made warchief.

3. Even if it was true that the original Prey may have benefitted from streaming-only release, I could see the argument being made that now that the movie is a hit, Prey 2 might deserve to be released as an actual theatrical production, given the built-in audience that now exists. Hell, I think you could make the argument that even the current version of Prey should come to theaters, as I would absolutely pay to see that on the big screen. That said, they may not want to mess with success, and if they want to replicate how well the first one performed, they may not change anything at all, and just release it for “free” on Hulu, like the first one. We’ll have to see what strategic decision they make.

Regardless, it’s been great to see how well Prey has performed, and I look forward to whatever’s next.

‘Alien’: Timothy Olyphant Joins Noah Hawley’s FX Series

Details about Olyphant’s character are not being disclosed. I hear he plays Kirsh, a synth who acts as a mentor and trainer for Chandler’s Wendy who is a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult.
