Both Nexus phones are available for pre-order from the Google Store today, September 29, and they’ll ship in October. The LG Nexus 5X is priced at $379 for the 16GB model and $429 for the 32GB version. Meanwhile, the higher-end Huawei Nexus 6P costs $499 for the base 32GB model, $549 for the 64GB version, and $649 for the capacious 128GB version.

Each Nexus phone will come with a free 90-day Google Play Music subscription and a $50 Google Play credit. Additionally, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P owners can sign up for Google's new Nexus Protect insurance program. With Nexus Protect, you can get two years of coverage for mechanical breakdown and accidental damage. Nexus Protect costs $69 for the 5X and $89 for the 6P, and it's launching in the US today, with more countries coming soon.

New Chromecast

Chromecast hasn't had a major revision in over two years, perhaps because it hasn't really needed one. But now there's one available, a new hockey puck design with an "dangling" HDMI port, wider Wi-Fi support, and better video thanks to an improved antenna design.

The new "puck" Chromecast is compatible with 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as 5GHz networks, and a triple-adaptive antenna design that should make the Chromecast much more reliable in terms of signal. Colors include the standard black, lemonade (yellow), and coral (red).

Google's Cast for Audio is getting its own official hardware, a dongle that allows you to connect any standard speaker to your Wi-Fi network and use it like a Cast for Audio receiver. It's basically just a circuit board, and audio processor, a Wi-Fi radio, and a headphone jack, allowing audio-only apps to stream music to local speakers. You can combine multiple Chromecast Audio units to make a multi-speaker or multi-room setup a la Sonos, but much cheaper (available in an update later this year). The design looks la bit like a tiny vinyl record, and it features the same Wi-Fi improvements as the new Chromecast. Chromecast Audio includes support for RCA and optical connections as well.

Chromecast Audio will work with multiple controller devices on the same network, including guests and iOS devices. You can even access other users' playlists as they're playing on a local speaker in compatible apps like Spotify.



The new Chromecast will cost $35, the same as the old model, and it's available today in 17 countries. It's available in retailers, but if you want colors you'll have to buy it from the Google Store. Chromecast Audio is also available today for $35 in the same countries.

$649 for the 128gb might be the way to go, since the note5 (imo) is crippled and I'm tired of Samsung.

Gotta see those 810 v2.1 benchmarks though. Unless marshmallow has much improved software, then the new iPhone is going to destroy that processor.

Very impressive battery size and I NEED those dual front speakers!!.

If you can root the device, and still keep the upgraded memory speed (big IF with google adding more security/locking android down like apple)--- I might cop one.

Android pay and root might never work, unfortunately
 
Can't believe companies are still making phones with 16GB as the entry point for storage. Entry point for storage should be 32GB these days. The price on that Nexus 5 for 32GB sucks too. I copped the new Moto X Pure edition 64GB for $499

Yeah Nexus 5X should've been 32 and 64GB... I prefer the smaller screen personally
 
Insurance looks cheap @ $69 and $89 but what's the deductible going to be and how many times can you claim? We know marshmallow is supposed to handle run memory cards more efficiently but why no slots? I've been holding out for a nexus for a minute now, gotta say I'm not that impressed with the new nexus's... Once again.

Google will not include expandable storage on Nexus devices. They made that clear a few years ago. They did improve support for SD cards, but that is for other OEMs and low cost phones that come with little internal storage

Nexus devices will not have a slot. Probably never will. But this probably means that you won't have to root it to use an adapter.

Yeah man, but they're trying to get you by using cloud services or streaming. They figure if you have 64 or 128 you won't need it.

Pricing is set at $499 for the 32GB model and $599 for the 64GB version, and the keyboard is an extra $149. Google is also promising software updates every six weeks.

Good looks. so basically you can claim a new phone every year for the 2 years and only spend $240 and since their selling direct we won't be gauaged by the carriers.

i'm gonna get over this expandable memory thing. i've been good with 20-25 gigs on my M7 for 2 years now :rolleyes: just gonna come out my pocket for the 128 gig.

htc's gonna take another hit if those speakers are as good as boomsound. we already know the camera is

Bump isn't nearly as pronounced as some of the renders made it seem



Hearing good things about Doze from people running the M preview... battery life is always my top concern. 3450 mah should be enough.
 
I'm watching the event on you tube now. Anyone else notice when they mentioned the "android sensor hub"???

Yeah, have to get my hands on one to see for sure... Based on some of the hands on vids, it seems like it might be ok due to the way you have to hold these larger phones.

No wireless charging is disappointing though. I have my N5 charger at my desk, always had it topped off without the need for a cable
