It was time to plug in some fresh young talent(for the hustle and speed). The vets energy levels decreased greatly last year. When you prided yourself on defense, once that energy and "wantness" is gone, the overall approach needs to be tweak.
Last year we saw rotations changed daily. Guys didn't play at all who should've play "Beasley". Beasley was that spark that was rarely used.
How the fuck you don't counter Boris Diaw with somebody he can't guard. That matchup could've been a wash. That was a small strategic option that should've been identify early in the season.
The staff steady pushed defense intensity, when that group was defensively drain(I think).
There comes a time with you have to redefine your scheme, system, approach and focal points. As a staff Miami didnt address this after the second title. The Spurs staff were the group who redefined their approach, system etc...

It ain't really about East vs West but moreso the West has been the more competitive conference for a very long time now. 50 wins is usually the minimum requirement to make the dance over here while East teams can damn near be sub .500 and get that 8th spot.
